Iran-Israel ceasefire: Pakistan's balanced role earned world appreciation: Mian Zahid
He said Pakistan acted with wisdom to safeguard the broader interests of the Muslim Ummah, regional stability, and the global economy.
Mian Zahid Hussain stated that the ceasefire has led to a noticeable decline in global oil prices, providing relief to both consumers and businesses worldwide. If the conflict had escalated, crude oil prices could have exceeded 110 dollars per barrel, severely aggravating global inflation and pushing developing economies under immense economic pressure.
He noted that the reduction in tensions would help revive shipping routes, lower insurance costs, enhance the environment for maritime trade, and mitigate disruptions in the global supply chain. Countries like Pakistan will benefit from smoother delivery of energy and essential commodities.
Mian Zahid added that the recent war had exposed weaknesses in Israel's defense systems and cast doubt on its military claims. He emphasized that victory cannot be achieved solely through propaganda.
Urging Iran to reassess its nuclear, defense, and foreign policies in light of current realities, he said the country should now strive to eliminate the economic sanctions that have hindered its development for four decades. By shifting its focus towards economic revival, similar to China's path, Iran can unlock sustained growth.
He stressed that lasting peace in the Middle East requires sincere efforts. Iran should reconsider its ties with India in light of New Delhi's strategic alliance with Israel during the conflict. He also warned Iran to remain cautious of voices claiming that the US failed to destroy its nuclear program; as such narratives could invite further attacks.
The business leader said that Iran's top priority now must be the removal of sanctions and economic rehabilitation. Meanwhile, Pakistan should expand its diplomatic footprint in the Middle East and continue to play an active role in protecting the shared interests of the Muslim world.
He emphasized that the plight of Palestinians must not be ignored. Thousands of innocent Palestinians have been martyred, and millions have been displaced. The international community must stop Israel from continuing this bloodshed. The United Nations' failure to respond effectively has undermined its credibility. He reiterated that Palestinians deserve peace, protection, and justice just as much as any other nation.
He concluded by stating that this war has proven once again that conflicts bring no real gains. Now is the time for all regional countries to abandon the arms race and focus on the welfare and progress of their people.
Mian Zahid expressed hope that the current ceasefire will be transformed into lasting peace through responsible actions from all parties, ensuring that future generations are spared from the horrors of war.

Pakistan slams ‘Greater Israel' plan
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned and rejected recent statements made by the Israeli occupying power, alluding to the creation of so-called 'Greater Israel,' and its designs aimed at the forcible displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said this in a statement on Friday. Pakistan calls on the international community to outrightly reject such provocative notions that constitute a flagrant violation of the international law, principles of the United Nations (UN) Charter, as well as the relevant UN resolutions. Such statements reflect the occupying power's intention to entrench its illegal occupation, as well as its complete contempt for all international efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the region, the FO statement remarked. The international community must take immediate and tangible measures to prevent the occupying power from further destabilising the region, and to end its ongoing crimes and atrocities against the Palestinians. 'Pakistan reaffirms its full support for the Palestinian people's legitimate rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, viable, and contiguous State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital,' Ambassador Khan asserted. It is worth mentioning here that the Palestinian Authority, Arab League (AL) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have categorically dismissed and condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's 'Greater Israel' plan, criticising the rhetoric as stemming from an 'extremist mindset steeped in a dangerous expansionist approach'. They were of the view that such rhetoric constitutes a violation of the sovereignty of Arab states and an attempt to undermine security and stability in the region. The Israeli government on Thursday approved construction of over 3,401 new houses for Jewish settlers in West Bank, which sparked new controversy. The move was being widely criticised, saying that it would further jeopardise Middle East security and aggravate the already volatile situation due to continued Israeli bombardment and forced starvation in Gaza. Foreign Office spokesperson Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan on Friday categorically condemned and rejected the recent statements by the Israeli occupying power suggesting the creation of a so-called "Greater Israel" and plans for the forcible displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. Ambassador Khan, in a statement issued by the Foreign Office here, said such rhetoric was a blatant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and relevant United Nations resolutions. He urged the international community to "outrightly reject" these provocative notions, which he warned were aimed at entrenching Israel's illegal occupation and undermining all efforts toward lasting peace in the region. "These statements demonstrate the occupying power's complete contempt for international efforts and reveal its intention to escalate instability in the region," the spokesperson stressed, calling for immediate and concrete action to halt Israel's ongoing crimes and atrocities against the Palestinian people. Pakistan also expressed deep grief at the tragic loss and damage caused by the recent cloudburst in Kishtwar, IIOJK.
