YouTuber arrested on suspicion of causing '£30,000' of damage to F1 car
Lando Norris claimed an historic victory at Silverstone on Sunday in front of record 500,000 fans but the event was marred by two separate incidents of classic F1 cars being damaged on Friday.
In a statement, Northamptonshire Police said they had: 'Received a report that a classic Formula 1 car on display at Silverstone Circuit during the British Grand Prix event had sustained several thousands of pounds worth of damage, which was alleged to have been caused by someone accessing the display stand and climbing into the vehicle.
'Officers carried out initial inquiries and suspects were identified. Three men, aged 23, 25 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage to a vehicle and taken into police custody.
'Following a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the incident, all three men were released with no further action.'
It has since transpired that the three men were YouTuber AngryGinge and fellow content creators Chazza and SamHam, with the car being the 2019 Racing Point. All three deny causing criminal damage.
Images of AngryGinge, real name Morgan Burtwistle, being escorted out of Silverstone by the police had been posted on social media, as has purported footage of the incident itself.
AngryGinge, who recently clashed with former Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez at Soccer Aid, has since taken to TikTok to share his version of events.
The 23-year-old claims he was told the damage done was worth '£30,000' and that the trio were held overnight at the Northampton Criminal Justice Centre, though he was not questioned before being released.
In a separate incident on the same day, CCTV caught a man stealing a steering wheel from a 1990 Leyton House F1 car that was at the Silverstone historic display and Eddie Jordan tribute.
'Northamptonshire Police has released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to following the theft of a steering wheel from a classic Formula 1 car,' a statement on Sunday read.
'The incident happened at about 2.30pm on Friday, July 4, when the steering wheel was removed from a vehicle that was on display at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone in South Northamptonshire.
'The man in the image could assist police with their enquiries so he, or anyone who recognises him, is asked call Northamptonshire Police on 101.
'Please quote incident number 25000390674 when providing any information to make sure it gets to the right person as quickly as possible.' More Trending
The footage also shows the man in question attempt to steal a steering wheel from a neighbouring car – a 1990 Brabham – before failing and moving onto the Leyton House.
'He's been in a couple of others – he's been around for about half an hour in the paddock,' a member of Martin Stretton Racing, which runs the Leyton House car, said.
'You can't sell it. It's a one-off – you'd get caught straight away. This is the original wheel from 1990 and you can't put a value on it. A new wheel would be two-and-a-half grand, but it wouldn't have the history of the original one. He's just taken that.
'We've got a spare car. We just borrowed its wheel. It's a pain in the a***.'

Northamptonshire police officers honoured for rescuing man
Two police officers have described how "instinct took over" when they dragged an injured man from a burning car moments before it Callum Simpson and PC Anna O'Donoghue, of Northamptonshire Police, came across a vehicle that had crashed into a fuel pump at high speed."We weren't sent to the job, we didn't have any time to come up with a plan of action," said PC O' pair have been recognised for their actions with a nomination at the National Police Bravery Awards. They were driving along the A45 in Wellingborough in December 2023 when they saw a petrol station on fire, so pulled over."We didn't expect anybody to be trapped inside the vehicle. As soon as we got out, we heard this awful scream, a cry for help," said PC O'Donoghue."We ran towards the car and saw a man trying to drag another badly injured, unconscious man out of the burning car."They managed to drag the driver out of the vehicle to safety just in time, as flames soon engulfed the car, followed by a series of officers gave first aid to the injured driver, despite the fire burning out of control close Simpson said: "We didn't have time to think about anything, we just wanted to get him as far away as possible."PC O'Donoghue added: "Sometimes when you have too much time to think, you over-think, but in that split second, your instinct takes over."Being emergency responders, we save life and limb. How could we not run towards the burning car? We had to."She said it was a "surprise" to be nominated for a bravery award."Every day in this job you do things which are traumatic and impactful and you very rarely get recognised for good work," she said."So to be nominated as the bravest of Northants – it feels surreal, and maybe a bit unnecessary, but it's really nice."Northamptonshire Police Federation chair Sam Dobbs said: "Callum and Anna displayed incredible bravery to pull the driver from a burning vehicle."There is no doubt in my mind that their quick-thinking and heroic actions saved the driver's life. We couldn't be prouder of them." Follow Northamptonshire news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X.

Christian Horner ‘wants quiet time with Geri' following his ‘shock' axe as Red Bull boss that left him in tears
CHRISTIAN HORNER 'wants quiet time with Geri and the family' following his dramatic exit from Formula 1 team Red Bull this week. The now former Red Bull team principal was axed on Wednesday after 20 years in charge, a year on from being accused of sexual harassment and coercive, controlling behaviour by a female employee. 5 Horner denied the accusations throughout the scandal. He stayed in his position for 16 months and his dismissal was part of a clear-out. Red Bull have slid down the standings since the accusations, with star driver and four-time world champion Max Verstappen also being linked with a move to Mercedes in the build up to Horner's exit. Now, according to The Mail, Horner's priority is 'quiet time with Geri and the family for a little while'. Horner and his wife, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner, have been seen together in public as a united front since the scandal last February. Horner was in tears as he addressed his 'shock' sacking and received a standing ovation at Red Bull HQ in Milton Keynes. He said: "Yesterday, I was informed by Red Bull that operationally I would no longer be involved with the business or the team moving forward. "I will still remain employed by the company, but, operationally the baton will be handed over. "It came as a shock to myself. I've had a chance to reflect over the last 12 hours and wanted to stand in front of all of you to break this news. "And to express my gratitude to each and every single member of the team that has given so much during the last 20-and-a-half years that I've been here. Christian Horner 'in tears' during farewell speech to Red Bull employees as sacked boss admits decision came as 'shock' "When I arrived 20 years ago, with a few less grey hairs, I walked into a team and did not know what to expect but I was immediately welcomed and we started to build what became a powerhouse in F1. "Watching and being part of this team has been the biggest privilege of my life." A source told The Sun that the tears during his farewell speech were 'actually about Geri'. The source said: 'Christian is of course desperately sad that his career has ended this way. "He also had the shock news about his ex wife's death just a few days before. But the emotion he showed during his teary speech was actually about Geri. 'He fears his sacking is yet another crisis for his marriage to face after an incredibly difficult year. "Geri has already begun distancing herself by going by Halliwell-Horner when writing her books. "Although she's still totally invested in her marriage, she wants to focus on herself and protecting her own image." 5 5 5 Geri has previously attempted to dismiss any meaning behind the name change, telling The Sunday Times: 'That's a load of c**p. It's my writing name. "I haven't legally changed anything — Horner is the name on my passport." The Mail report also states there is 'doubt [Horner] is done for Formula One forever'. There are also rumours of a move to Ferrari, which he declined two years ago, allowing Fred Vasseur to be given the top job. In May, he batted away rumours he would join Ferrari, declaring: "It's always flattering to be associated with other teams, but my commitment is with Red Bull." Announcing the news of the six-time World Constructers' Championship winner's departure, Red Bull managing director Oliver Mintzlaff said: "We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the last 20 years. "With his tireless commitment, experience, expertise and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1. "Thank you for everything, Christian, and you will forever remain an important part of our team history." Racing Bulls' Laurent Mekies, head of Red Bull's sister team, has been put in to replace him.
