Deepika Padukone starrer 'Piku' set for re-release
Bollywood star Deepika Padukone took to Instagram on Saturday to share a video clip announcing the re-release of her 2015 drama film, Piku. The clip featured co-star Amitabh Bachchan, who briefly recapped the film for the viewers.
"Hello. Piku, remember? Piku, Bhaskor da, they went on a road trip. Don't remember? Watch this," Amitabh said, as the video cut to scenes from the film, following the fun-filled antics of a responsible but strict daughter, an aged and nagging father, and the man forced to take them on a road trip to Kolkata.
"It was an amazing road trip. It was as unpredictable as it was unforgettable. There were emotions, laughter, and tension too," the veteran actor continued. "Piku is re-releasing at your nearest theatres. Do watch, won't you?"
As per Deepika, the film graces the big screen again on May 9, just in time for its 10th anniversary. In her caption, she also paid tribute to co-star and late actor, Irrfan Khan, who played Rana in the Shoojit Sircar film. "Irrfan, we miss you! And we think about you every so often," she wrote.
While fans in the comments rejoiced over the news of the re-release, they couldn't help but remember the late actor in their praises. A user told Deepika, "You deliver one of the finest performances as Piku. You perfectly embody the weariness and the underlying affection of a daughter burdened by responsibility yet fiercely protective of her father. Irrfan and Big B are a delight to watch. May Irrfan rest in peace. What a loss, gone too early."
Irrfan, who was recognised in both India and internationally for his acclaimed roles, passed away in April 2020, aged 53. Two years prior, he revealed that he was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour. As per the BBC, he underwent treatment in London and spent his last days in intensive care in Mumbai, battling a colon infection.
Aside from his remarkable Bollywood credits, the Hindi Medium actor was known for his roles in Hollywood films such as Life of Pi, Slumdog Millionaire, and Jurassic World.
Multiple Hollywood stars mourned Irrfan's passing. "So sad to hear about the passing of screen legend Irrfan Khan, who played Masrani in Jurassic World. He was an exquisite actor and human. He will be missed," wrote Chris Pratt on X.
Meanwhile, Riz Ahmed said, "Rest in peace to one of the greatest actors of our time, Irrfan Khan. I never met him but he was an inspiration and a hero to me and millions of others. His work was consistently transcendent, and he was a guiding light for so many of us."

Jamie Borthwick gets suspended by BBC from 'Strictly Come Dancing' after using disability-related slur
The BBC has suspended EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick from Strictly Come Dancing following his use of a disability-related slur during filming. The incident occurred in November while the show was being filmed in Blackpool, with Borthwick allegedly using the offensive phrase to describe locals. BBC News reported the broadcaster's official statement: 'His language was entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect.' The actor, who has played Jay Brown on EastEnders since 2006, had been participating in the most recent season of Strictly Come Dancing. Borthwick addressed the situation in a statement to The Sun on Sunday, saying: 'I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly.' He added, 'It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning. That is on me completely. Now I am aware, I am deeply embarrassed to have used the term and directed it in the way I did.' The incident is the latest in a string of controversies surrounding Strictly Come Dancing. Last series, fellow contestant Wynne Evans faced backlash for making a misogynistic remark about his dance partner, which reportedly led to the non-renewal of his BBC Radio Wales contract.
