Alexandria Fire Department warns against outdoor burning during dry conditions

Yahoo03-03-2025
CALHOUN COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Five homes have been lost due to burn piles throughout the past week in Calhoun County, according to the Alexandria Fire Department.
The department says that several other burn piles have gotten dangerously close to structures in the area.
Alabama Forestry Commission wildfire advisory remains in effect throughout weekend
'All of Calhoun County is under a Red Flag Warning and some cities have burn bans in place,' they said in a Facebook post. 'With the dry conditions and wind if your fire gets away from you, you will not be able to stop it.'
The Alabama Forestry Commision suspended the issuance of all burn permits throughout the weekend, saying that they will re-evaluate the weather situation on Monday. The AFC issued a statement on Saturday saying that they responded to 263 wildfires throughout the state in the past seven days.

Hot spell and gusty storms create fire danger across Colorado

The combination of near record heat, extremely low humidity and dry, gusty thunderstorms will create a fire danger situation for more than half of the state on Thursday. Our near record heat wave continues into Thursday with lots of highs over the Eastern plains and Western Slope rising into the 90s and 100s! While at the same time relative humidity levels will be super low for the second half of the week with the drier and hotter air moving in. At the same time there is just enough moisture flowing in from down south that high-based dry, gusty storms are expected to form late in the day. These types of t-storms don't drop much rain but, do create gusty winds and lightning. As a result, a RED FLAG WARNING is posted for all of the Western Slope, Colorado Mountains and the Front Range Foothills from noon thru 10 pm on Thursday. Friday will have a chance at a few more t-storms with a little more rainfall. But, not enough to wipe out the fire threat. There is a FIRE WEATHER WATCH in place for all of the Western Slope on Friday.

Long-duration heat wave grips Denver and eastern Colorado, fire danger rising

A long-duration heat wave is underway across Denver and much of eastern Colorado, with 7 to 10 straight days of highs at or above 90 degrees expected. The hottest afternoons will be on Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures near 98 degrees. A few showers are possible each day, but the chance is only 10 to 20 percent. With dry air at the surface, most areas will see more wind than rain as virga occurs. Any rainfall won't be enough to ease the heat or growing fire danger. Red flag warnings are in place for the Crosho Fire and portions of the Continental Divide on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Widespread high fire danger will spread across the high country and the Continental Divide, reaching the foothills by Thursday and Friday. Dry thunderstorms could spark new fires, making the end of the week potentially active for fire weather across Colorado.

Critical fire threat and high heat today

SALT LAKE CITY () — Happy Friday eve, Utah! Today's weather will be similar to what we saw yesterday with toasty temperatures and a mix of sun and clouds. Daytime highs will run about 5 degrees above average which translates to mid to upper 90s for valleys, upper 80s to low 90s for cooler spots and high terrain, and low to mid 100s for the usual hot spots. Triple digits are not out of the question for the Wasatch Front, yesterday the Salt Lake International Airport briefly measured 101 degrees! While the afternoon will start clear for most of us, we'll see increasing clouds coverage through the day. Breezy conditions are expected ahead of an incoming dry cold front, that coupled with the dry vegetation and low relative humidity means fire conditions are critical. Red Flag Warnings are in effect for the entire state, apart from Summit County. Conditions will generally be similar across the board with southwest winds at 10-25 mph gusting up to 35-40 mph and humidity in the 8-15% range, but the timing varies. The West Desert and Mojave Desert, including St. George and Cedar City, will expire at 9 pm tonight. The northern West Desert, Wasatch Front, and the Wasatch Mountains will also expire at 9 pm. Warnings hold on in eastern and south-central Utah through tomorrow. The Four Corners region, East Uinta Basin, and Book Cliffs' warning expires on Friday at 8 pm. Just an hour later at 9 pm Friday the last of the warnings expire which make up the largest area and includes places like the San Rafael Swell, Grand Staircase, Color Country Mountains, West Uinta Basin, and Central Mountains where the Monroe Canyon Fire is still burning ROUGHLY 65,000 ACRES. While alerts in southwest Utah expire tonight, there will still be a critical fire threat from the southwest and through eastern Utah into Saturday thanks to gusty winds. The reason we see elevated winds in parts of central, southern and eastern Utah is linked to the progression of an incoming cold front. This dry cold front will move through northern Utah into Friday night before stalling, bringing decreasing winds by the weekend and a noticeable drop in temperatures, especially in the north. We could see a day or two in the mid to upper 80s, which would be a nice change from the summer heat.
