Inaugural Malaysia Bridal Fashion Week Had Everybody Saying 'I Do'!
Hosted by homegrown luxury bridal house The Gown Atelier from 25th to 27th July 2025 at Astana Hall, Bamboo Hills, MBFW brought together 23 global and regional bridal designer labels. From media representatives and celebrities to industry professionals and brides-to-be, more than 2,000 guests gathered to experience what could mark the start of a new era in Malaysia's wedding industry.
'As Malaysia's first full-scale bridal fashion week, MBFW introduces a new platform for creativity, collaboration, and couture expression in the wedding scene. We created MBFW to spark inspiration and elevate the bridal experience – not just for brides, but for everyone shaping the wedding journey,' said East Chin, Founder of MBFW and The Gown Atelier.
'Our hope is for MBFW to grow into an annual celebration of bridal artistry, one that showcases excellence, honours diverse styles, and deepens the appreciation for fashion as a form of personal and cultural expression.'
While bridal showcases are not new in Malaysia, MBFW stood out for its scale, curation, and ambition. It was not just a runway event – it was about creating a space where designers, stylists, and planners could come together to explore ideas, preview collections, and discover what is next in bridal fashion.
True to this spirit of connection, the runway itself broke convention with an infinity-loop design which is a nod to The Gown Atelier's emblem and a symbol of unity, artistry, and everlasting love. And for many brides-to-be, it was a rare chance to view couture gowns – often only seen on international runways – up close, in a setting designed to inspire.
A Launchpad For Malaysia's Modern Bridal Fashion Scene
MBFW brought world-class designers from Malaysia and beyond to a proudly local stage, celebrating the evolving artistry of both Western and Asian bridal couture. The lineup included iconic names like Zuhair Murad, Vera Wang, Chung Thanh Phong alongside homegrown couture designers such as The Atelier. Most of these brands are carried exclusively by The Gown Atelier, a testament to the brand's position as a trusted curator of bridal fashion.
Day 1 kicked off in style with a private opening ceremony attended by the media, designers, KOLs, local celebrities, and VIPs. Then, the runway lit up with a striking fusion of white wedding gowns and Oriental silhouettes by Zuhair Murad, Berta Chandra, and The Atelier, each one showcasing the elegance, craftsmanship, and cultural depth at the heart of MBFW.
Adding to the glitz and excitement was a special appearance by international actress Arden Cho, best known as the voice of Rumi in K-pop Demon Hunters on Netflix, alongside Malaysian actress Yumi Wong of The Locksmith fame. The runway also welcomed familiar faces – Malaysian YouTuber Han Xiiao Aii turned heads in designs by The Atelier and Ivan Yong, while Hong Kong actress Hebe Chan gave a surprise appearance and brought her signature glamour to Alethea Sposa's Sangjit showcase on day 2.
Days 2 and 3 welcomed the public, each with a themed showcase. 'Oriental Charm' on Day 2 brought Eastern elegance to the spotlight, with standout Sangjit-inspired looks, featuring modern takes on Indonesian qi pao and traditional cheongsam that resonated with brides seeking to honour heritage with contemporary flair. The runway was a vibrant display of culture and craftsmanship by brands like Berta Chandra, Alethea Sposa, Nicole Boenawan, Lichen, Tian Xi and more, cementing the rising influence of Asian bridal aesthetics.
'Ivory & Hues' on Day 3 closed MBFW with timeless sophistication. From minimal silhouettes to dramatic couture statements, the showcase featured looks from Ivan Yong, Wang Feng, Yaralis Kothor, Maison Pera, and more that captured the diversity and evolution of modern bridal wear. The evening wrapped up with a lively closing ceremony that brought guests, designers, and industry players together in celebration of MBFW's successful debut.
Fashion Meets Experience
Throughout MBFW, guests were invited to participate in immersive experiences – from DIY perfume and bouquet customisation to edible art cookie painting, express nail services, and gourmet offerings. The atmosphere was made even more lively by engaging emcees Kevin Chong and Diana Danielle. Danielle also delivered a soulful live performance that captivated the audience while an enchanting violin solo and a violin-and-saxophone duo added a refined touch to the weekend's celebratory mood.
Guests who signed up with The Gown Atelier during the three-day event also enjoyed exclusive offers from participating vendors and partners at MBFW. To top it all off, daily lucky draws kept guests engaged, culminating in the highly anticipated grand prizes: a RM75,000 luxury mattress courtesy of Simmons and a RM20,000 bespoke diamond ring crafted by BEON Diamond.
With strong support from official venue sponsor Astana Bamboo Hill, online wedding media BridePay and special media Aurizn, makeup sponsor Bobbi Brown, hairstyling sponsor Sanyu Chen Makeover Academy, creative partners like Butter Diary, Lynn's17, Grand Imperial Group, POSH Nail Spa, Alicescape_ and Parfumeur.Co, and F&B partners Tap Tap, Tuk Tuk Catering, and Astana, MBFW showed what is possible for the wedding industry when style meets synergy.
As the host of MBFW and Malaysia's leading luxury bridal house featuring some of the world's most sought-after bridal brands, The Gown Atelier continues to shape the future for contemporary weddings with a passion for artistry, elegance, and personalisation. MBFW is a natural extension of its commitment to creating more meaningful moments for the industry. Beyond dressing brides, The Gown Atelier is proud to provide a platform where fashion, culture, and collaboration converge to set the stage for what's next in Malaysian bridal fashion.

(Video) BOYNEXTDOOR Allegedly Faced Discrimination During Recent US Trip
It isn't uncommon for idols to face discrimination when performing or travelling in countries outside their own. For example, when the iconic K-pop group Stray Kids attended the Met Gala, some members of the press were openly rude and dismissive toward them. This kind of behaviour has been called out for years, and while progress has been made, incidents like this still happen. On 2nd August (Saturday), the rising group BOYNEXTDOOR (보이넥스트도어) shared details of an alleged case of mistreatment during their time in the U.S. The incident quickly sparked concern among fans and industry watchers. It has also reignited discussions about the ongoing discrimination that non-Western artists continue to experience, both subtle and direct, when navigating global platforms. Following their performance at Lollapalooza 2025 — one of the world's biggest music festivals — BOYNEXTDOOR went live from their hotel room to share an unsettling experience. Earlier that day, they had eaten at a restaurant where something felt off. The group explained that they were already seated in a booth when they tried to place their order. They called over a waiter, but he had told them to wait and walked away to serve another table instead. The same waiter eventually returned to pour their drinks, but when Riwoo (리우) told him they were ready to order, the waiter interrupted again, asked them to wait, and left. Member Leehan (이한) quickly called it out as discrimination. Afterwards, the group began discussing how restaurant roles can vary — with some staff responsible only for certain tasks — though the tone of the conversation suggested they questioned whether this was just a misunderstanding or something more deliberate. ONEDOORs (BOYNEXTDOOR fans) were quick to voice their frustration online. Many fans argued that once seated, it's standard courtesy to start taking orders and expressed concern that the group was being overlooked due to race or nationality. Others urged caution, noting that fans might lack full context — for example, certain restaurant staff aren't tasked with taking orders, and the waiter could have simply been busy. Even so, Leehan's strong reaction raised concerns. It suggested that this may not have been the group's first encounter with subtle racial profiling. Whether or not the restaurant intended to discriminate, the moment struck a chord with fans. It served as a reminder of the everyday challenges international artists still face when navigating unfamiliar spaces, even in casual, everyday settings. Here is the full live, or skip to 15:51 for the recollection of the alleged discrimination: Sources: Koreaboo, YouTube, Twitter Zaima Humaria contributed to this article
