FIFA Adds Team Songs, Fan Chants to the Club World Cup

Morocco World13-06-2025
FIFA has announced that every team in the tournament will have its official anthem played before matches. That includes Wydad Casablanca, who are in a tough group with Manchester City, Juventus and Al Ain.
Each club has been asked to send in an anthem that reflects its history and identity. The idea is to create a more personal and exciting pre-match atmosphere for both players and fans.
That's not the only change. For the first round of group games, teams will also get to pick a club legend or their current captain to announce the starting line-up over the stadium speakers.
And there's more. FIFA is also bringing back Freed from Desire – the '90s hit that became a terrace anthem after Wigan fans gave it a football twist in 2016. The song will play in every match and be part of the tournament's broadcasts.
'Fans made this song a football classic,' FIFA said. 'We want to honour that.'
The tournament will kick off with a big opening ceremony next Saturday at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium. The show starts at 7:15 p.m. local time (just after midnight in Morocco) and will feature performances from the Moroccan rapper French Montana and Swae Lee.
The concert will be streamed live and free on DAZN and marks the start of what FIFA says will be the biggest Club World Cup yet, with 32 teams playing across 11 cities in the US.
But it's not just about music and festivities.
The opening and halftime shows will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million to help children around the world get access to quality education and football.
One dollar from every ticket sold will go to the fund.
'We're going to bring the world together for a beautiful moment,' said singer Tems, who joins J Balvin and Doja Cat for the final's halftime show. Tags: Club World CupDoja CatFIFAFrench Montana

Achraf Hakimi Accused of Rape

Paris Saint-Germain defender and Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi could face trial on rape charges, according to Le Parisien. The Nanterre prosecutor's office filed a final indictment request on August 1, calling for Hakimi to be formally charged before the criminal court of Hauts-de-Seine. The allegations relate to an incident at his home in Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris in February 2023, which Hakimi denies. According to Le Parisien, the 26-year-old alleged victim met Hakimi via Instagram and visited his residence after over a month of online contact. She claims Hakimi kissed and touched her without consent, then forced himself on her. The woman reported the incident to the police the same day but initially did not file a formal complaint. She later provided messages to investigators describing her trauma. Hakimi was placed under formal investigation for rape on March 3, 2023, following questioning and brief custody. Throughout the inquiry, he has denied the allegations, asserting the claims are part of an attempted financial blackmail. PSG has maintained support for Hakimi, expressing trust in the judicial process. The club said his absences from training were due to 'personal reasons.' In December 2023, Hakimi and his accuser faced each other in court, both restating their versions of events. Speaking in January 2025 to a blogger, Hakimi said: 'The truth is, when you're successful, you become an easy target for some people… They wanted to blackmail me, which is why we filed a complaint. Justice has handled things well.' The case now rests with the investigating judge, who will decide whether to proceed to trial. If convicted, Hakimi faces a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.

Assouik vs Rungrawee: Moroccan Muay Thai Star Returns for ONE Fight Night 34

Danish-Moroccan fighter Youssef Assouik is set for his second appearance in ONE Championship when he faces Thailand's Rungrawee Sitsongpeenong on August 1 at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok. The lightweight bout, fought under Muay Thai rules, headlines ONE Fight Night 34. The event will be held on Saturday and will be streamed live on starting from 2 a.m. Moroccan time (GMT+1). Assouik, 30, impressed on his debut in October 2024 with a win over Thai star Sinsamut Klinmee. A former GLORY fighter, he boasts a professional record of 12 wins, two losses and seven knockouts. His accolades include world titles from WMC, ISKA, and Tatneft Cup. Known for his switch-hitting style and adaptability, Assouik is eyeing a more aggressive approach this time around. 'I will change my style. I will be more aggressive,' he told ONE. 'Last time, I moved a lot to check how much damage I could get from the small gloves. But this time, I'm confident.' His opponent, Rungrawee, 29, enters with a record of five wins and two defeats in ONE. The Thai southpaw is known for his pressure and brutal kicks. He previously challenged Youssef Boughanem in 2015 but was stopped via elbow KO. Assouik, who stands taller at 190cm, insists he's ready for all scenarios. 'I know he's a southpaw. But I'm comfortable in both stances,' he said. 'Southpaw versus southpaw or orthodox, I'm ready for everything.' The Moroccan enters as the underdog, but his power, reach, and experience with small gloves could make for an explosive upset. MWN predicts a knockout win for Assouik. FIFA unveils referees and innovative video support for U17 Women's World Cup in Morocco

The FIFA Referees Committee on Thursday announced the list of match officials selected for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Morocco 2025, scheduled to take place from October 17 to November 8. According to a statement from FIFA, the tournament will feature 54 referees in total—18 main referees and 36 assistant referees—representing 36 member associations. Pierluigi Collina, chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, noted that the World Cup offers a valuable opportunity for both players and referees to gain experience, sharpen their skills, and advance in their careers, ultimately contributing to the growth of the game. This tournament will be especially notable for the introduction of Football Video Support (FVS), following successful trials last year at the U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia and the U-17 tournament in the Dominican Republic. FIFA explained that the initiative responds to growing demand from member associations for a more accessible and cost-effective technological tool to assist referees. Unlike the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, FVS does not rely on dedicated video referees and does not automatically review every potentially game-changing incident. Instead, the responsibility lies with coaches, who are allowed a limited number of review requests per match if they believe a significant error has occurred during key moments, such as goals, penalty decisions, direct red cards, or cases of mistaken identity. Players are also permitted to recommend that their coach request a review.
