In a post on X, the Prime Minister extended best wishes to the medical fraternity and said the doctors have made a mark with their dexterity and diligence.

July 1 is observed as National Doctor's Day to commemorate Bidhan Chandra Roy, a renowned doctor who also served as the West Bengal Chief Minister, and whose birth and death anniversary fall on this day. Dr Roy was in 1961 awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to medicine and public service. This day, established in 1991 by the Government of India to honour him, is also dedicated to honouring the tireless dedication, compassion, and relentless efforts of its medical professionals.
Acknowledging the role that the doctors play, PM Modi referred to their contribution in his 123rd episode of his monthly radio programme, 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday.
He said that on the 1st of July, the country honours two very important professions -- Doctors and Chartered Accountants (CAs). "Both of these are such pillars of society, which make our lives better. Doctors are the protectors of our health, and the CAs are the guides of economic life," the PM said.
Last year, PM Modi had said the government was fully committed to improving the healthcare infrastructure in India and also ensuring that doctors get their deserved respect.
Union Health Minister J.P.Nadda also extended his wishes on the day. He said," On National Doctor's Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all doctors for their selfless service to humanity. Their round-the-clock dedication brings hope and saves countless lives every single day. In every health emergency, you have stood tall at the frontlines, driven by compassion and an unshakable sense of duty. Your care, courage and sacrifice make you the true heroes of our society."
He also expressed his gratitude not just to doctors, but to all healthcare workers, "whose relentless efforts are paving the way towards a Swasth Bharat".

The Chief Minister said that under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is constantly striving to expand and strengthen health services in the state. 'Our effort is to provide quality medical facilities to every citizen of the state at affordable rates. We have distributed about 58 lakh Ayushman cards so far under the Ayushman scheme. Through which, more than 11 lakh patients of the state have received the benefit of cashless treatment worth more than Rs 2100 crore,' he said. The Chief Minister stated that the government is establishing a medical college in every district of the state, enabling people in remote areas to access modern health facilities within their own district. 'Out of these, five medical colleges have already been made operational, while the construction of two more medical colleges is also in progress. Super speciality departments have also been established in Dehradun, Haldwani and Srinagar Medical Colleges, where state-of-the-art medical facilities like cardiology, neurosurgery and urology are being provided,' he said. 'The construction work of the state's first modern cancer institute is also in progress in Haldwani. Along with this, we have also started heli ambulance service for every area of the state, which is proving to be a lifesaver for the people of remote areas in any emergency,' the CM added. Chief Minister Dhami said that under the free investigation scheme in the state, a free facility of 207 types of pathological tests is also being provided to the patients. 'On the one hand, our government is modernising the district hospitals and community health centres and equipping them with better facilities. At the same time, consultation facilities are also being provided by specialist doctors in remote villages through Uttarakhand telemedicine services. We are also constantly trying to overcome the shortage of staff in all our government hospitals and medical colleges,' he said. The Chief Minister said that during the COVID pandemic, when the whole world was facing a serious crisis, the doctors were engaged in selfless service. 'In such a difficult time, you people worked day and night to save patients without caring for your own lives. The spirit of service you people displayed by wearing PPE kits, putting yourself at risk of infection and staying away from your loved ones will be written in golden letters in the history of humanity. Welcome push to make insurance more accessible
The concerns were recently reiterated by the Union financial services secretary, M Nagaraju, who reminded insurers: 'There is a need to curb mis-selling and ensure premiums are low so that coverage can increase.' He underlined that quick settlement of claims is critical to restore faith in insurance products. A recent survey showed that health insurance premiums have soared 73 percent since 2020, while medical inflation has averaged a whopping 14 percent a year. The steep rise in premiums from pre-Covid levels and rising rejection rates have pushed a larger section of consumers to opt out of coverage altogether. An IRDAI report concedes that 11 percent of health insurance claims are usually denied, while 6 percent are kept pending for long. Apart from rejections, as many as half of all policy holders face issues such as partial approvals or delays while settling claims. To set things in order, the IRDAI needs to be well staffed and review the board decisions of insurers as a matter of routine. That things have been adrift is apparent from the fact that the regulator has been without a chairperson since this March. There is also the longstanding demand for the GST Council to waive the substantial 18 percent tax on premiums. Waiving GST for all health insurance products would be a good start towards greater affordability and broader coverage. It is high time the government removed at least some of the many hurdles in the path of this critical industry.

Services of Dr. B.C. Roy recalled at Doctors' Day celebrations
The speakers at the National Doctors' Day celebrations recalled the contribution of the late Dr BC Roy to the medical profession, his exemplary services to the poor both as a doctor and later as Chief Minister of West Bengal, at a programme organised by Praja Arogya Vedika (PAV) at the Alluri Vignana Kendram here on Tuesday. Doctors' Day is being observed on July 1 in recognition of the services of Dr. Roy, who was born on July 1, 1882, and had passed away on July 1, 1962. He was given the Bharat Ratna in 1950. Popular doctors Dr. S. Prakasa Rao, a former HOD of ENT Department, KGH, and Dr. K. Subba Rao, a former HOD of Gynaecology, KGH, were felicitated on the occasion. Earlier, Dr. Y. Narasinga Rao, who inaugurated the programme, alleged that the State government was shirking its responsibility with its decision to run 10 medical colleges under the PPP mode. The plan was to allocate seats after collecting lakhs of rupees from students in the name of capitation fee, he alleged. PAV State general secretary T. Kameswara Rao demanded implementation of Health Security Act for the six crore people of the State, and to make health a fundamental right. He also sought an end to the plan to privatise medical colleges in the name of 'PPP'. AP Medical and Sales Representatives Union State secretary K.V.P. Chandra Mouli, Visakhapatnam district vice president M.V.R.S. Srikanth also spoke.
