‘Stronger when together': India, France agree to fight terrorism together
France on Tuesday reiterated its solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism emanating from Pakistan and agreed that the democratic world needs to speak in one voice on this issue, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said at the conclusion of the Paris leg of his all-party delegation's visit to European capitals.
The nine-member delegation was joined by representatives of the India-France Friendship Group in the French Senate led by its Vice-President, Jacqueline Eustache-Brinio, as well as members of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee at the grand Luxembourg Palace for their final engagement in the French capital before departing for Rome, Italy.
'All the colleagues in the Senate in this majestic building have only one word to say: we are together with India in the fight against terrorism,' Prasad told reporters.
'They totally agreed that France and India, indeed the whole democratic world, need to speak in one voice in the fight against terrorism emanating from Pakistan and supported by the Pakistani state,' he said, adding that the delegation was 'really touched' by this support and expressed gratitude to the French Senators.
'We saw it all here: energy, compassion, love for France and India and the people, that is the takeaway (of the visit),' he added.
The dialogue with the Senators followed a meeting with members of the India-France Friendship Group in the Assemblee Nationale (National Assembly) earlier on Tuesday.
'This meeting was very interesting for us to note how India sees France. We have a partnership that is very strong, very old and very good for both nations. It's promising for the future,' said Thierry Tesson, President of the group which is planning a visit to India soon.
'We are fighting against terrorism in France also. Like the president of the delegation (Prasad), I agree it (terrorism) is like a cancer that has to be fought against. We are stronger when we are together against this cancer,' he said.
Earlier, the multi-party delegation including MPs Daggubati Purandeswari, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Ghulam Ali Khatana, Dr Amar Singh, Samik Bhattacharya and M Thambidurai, and former Union minister MJ Akbar and former Deputy National Security Advisor Ambassador Pankaj Saran addressed the local French media to highlight the global aspect of terrorism rooted in Pakistan.
'The distinction between the state of Pakistan and terrorism has now withered away. Terrorism as an instrument of state policy is a part of the military state of Pakistan,' Prasad told reporters.
The European delegation, one of 33 similar all-party teams travelling across the globe to express India's zero-tolerance stance against terror, is now scheduled for dialogues and meetings in Italy. This will be followed by visits to Denmark, the UK, Belgium and Germany.
As part of India's diplomatic outreach, all-party delegations are travelling to global capitals to reach out to the international community on Pakistan's designs and India's response to terror, especially in view of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.

Maha Guv urges Portugal to focus on select sectors to increase trade volume
Mumbai, June 10 (UNI) Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan on Tuesday suggested that Portugal should focus on select sectors such as infrastructure, information technology, tourism, and textiles, and make efforts to increase the current trade volume from USD 1.2 billion to at least USD 10 billion. According to a statement issued by the Governor's house, the suggestion was made during a courtesy meeting between Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal in India, João Manuel Mendes Ribeiro de Almeida, and the Governor of Maharashtra at Raj Bhavan, here. Stating that Portugal and India share a historical relationship, the Ambassador said Portugal is now focusing on the future and is keen to enhance cooperation with India across various sectors, including trade. In this context, he said, Portugal is also interested in signing a memorandum of understanding with Maharashtra. The Ambassador mentioned that this year holds special significance for both India and Portugal, as it marks the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He informed that efforts are underway to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, tourism, textiles and information technology. He told the Governor that he was meeting over 100 business representatives in Mumbai. The Ambassador also informed that around 1.25 lakh Indians reside in Portugal and that they had integrated well into Portuguese society. He said Indians possess a wide range of skills and added that Portugal currently has a growing need for skilled manpower. Sharing that Portugal is ranked the fifth safest country in the world next only to the Scandinavian countries, the Ambassador added that Portugal is a leading destination in global tourism. He expressed Portugal's interest in increasing cooperation with India in the field of tourism. The Ambassador also shared that Portuguese is spoken in around 15 countries, including Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, East Timor, among others. Welcoming the Ambassador to Maharashtra, Governor Radhakrishnan noted that Spanish and Portuguese are widely spoken languages across the world. He told the Ambassador that in his capacity as Chancellor of universities in Maharashtra, he has advised universities to offer at least one European language to the students. Pupil Stabs To Death Assistant At French School
Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday condemned a "senseless wave of violence" after a teaching assistant stabbed by a 15-year-old pupil outside a school in the east of the country died of her wounds. The secondary school student was arrested after attacking the 31-year-old assistant with a knife during a bag search in Nogent in eastern France, officials said. France has in recent years seen a series of attacks on teachers and pupils by other schoolchildren. "While protecting our children, a teaching assistant lost her life, the victim of a senseless wave of violence," Macron wrote on X, commenting on the latest in a spate of such incidents at French schools. "The nation is in mourning and the government is mobilised to reduce crime," he added. Education Minister Elisabeth Borne was on her way to Nogent "to support the entire school community and the police." "I commend the composure and dedication of those who acted to subdue the attacker and protect the students and staff," she said on X. The pupil is 15 years old and did not have a criminal record. The teaching assistant received several knife wounds just as classes were starting, and the alleged attacker, who was overpowered by gendarmes, "appears to be a student at the school," education officials said.
