
Olympiad delegates explore Saudi heritage, hospitality
The enriching experience brought together 240 students from 30 countries and 110 international physics specialists, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Beyond the competitions, the program included educational and cultural visits highlighting Saudi Arabia's rich heritage and scientific progress, while promoting global youth engagement and cultural exchange.
Wearing traditional Saudi attire as a sign of respect, participants experienced the Kingdom's hospitality, sampled Saudi cuisine and took part in interactive events that fostered cultural connection.
This year's Olympiad holds special significance as it marks the 25th anniversary of the competition. For more than two decades, it has united talented youth from across the globe, encouraging scientific excellence and cross-cultural understanding.
The final results — organized by the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals — will be announced during the closing ceremony on May 11 at King Fahd University in Dhahran.

Jordan, US forces launch ‘Dragon Eye' field drill to counter WMD threats
AMMAN: The Jordanian army on Sunday launched its 'Dragon Eye' field exercise at the Chemical Support Group of the Royal Engineering Corps, the Jordan News Agency reported. The drill is being held in cooperation with the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency and Oak Ridge National Laboratory of the US Department of Energy, under the Jordan-US program to counter weapons of mass destruction, JNA added. According to a Jordanian army statement, the exercise aims to strengthen national response to nuclear and radiological incidents, identify gaps in security systems, and improve procedures for handling unconventional threats. It also seeks to enhance coordination and interoperability between Jordanian and US forces. The drill included field scenarios simulating nuclear and radiological threats, designed to build practical skills and facilitate the exchange of technical expertise among participants. The army said the exercise reflects its commitment to boosting operational readiness, keeping pace with scientific and technological developments, and contributing to national, regional, and international security.

Saudi team winning International Olympiad medals accorded warm welcome in Riyadh
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Saudi team who won medals in the 2025 International Standards Olympiad was accorded a warm welcome at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Sunday. The Saudi team has won the Kingdom's first-ever international Olympiad gold medal, along with two silver medals, at the event held from August 12 to 14 in Siheung, South Korea. A total of 40 teams from around the world participated in the competition. Those who were present at the airport to receive the Saudi team included Secretary General of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) Abdulaziz Al-Kraidis, and several officials from the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization and the Ministry of Education as well as several parents. They expressed their pride in the outstanding achievement of the Saudi team. Saudi Arabia competed in the 20th edition of the Olympiad with four student teams from middle and high school levels, prepared and nominated through intensive training and qualification programs. This participation was part of a strategic partnership between Mawhiba, the Ministry of Education, and SASO. Al-Kraidis congratulated the winning students, praising their excellence in this international event and their competition against some of the world's brightest talents. He noted that this achievement marks a milestone in the Kingdom's journey in international scientific forums and highlights the potential of promising young talents capable of competing globally. This accomplishment builds on the Kingdom's debut last year, when it won a bronze medal and a certificate of appreciation, reaffirming the continuous progress of Saudi students in the fields of standards, metrology, and quality. This year's achievement stands out as the Kingdom's first-ever gold medal in international Olympiad history.

Jeddah to host higher education forum
JEDDAH: The University of Jeddah is preparing to launch the first International Forum on Giftedness in Higher Education, which will be held on Sept. 3 and 4, at the university's conference center under the patronage of Minister of Education Yousef Al-Benyan. The forum will showcase award-winning innovations from talented students at the university that have been recognized at international exhibitions. It will also highlight the latest local and global developments in the field of talent, present policies and programs dedicated to nurturing gifted students, and encourage innovation as a means of empowering national capabilities in the labor market. The two-day program will include keynote sessions, panel discussions, cultural competitions, interactive exhibitions, and specialised workshops, offering a wide range of activities for participants.
