London to Host Inaugural UK-Africa Business Summit to Boost Trade and Investment
Set to take place next year, the summit aims to bring together African entrepreneurs, investors, government representatives, stock exchanges, and business networks from across the continent. Organisers say the event will promote London as a springboard for African companies looking to expand internationally.
The initiative is backed by data from London & Partners, the city's official promotional agency, which projects that trade between the UK and Africa could reach £62 billion by 2030. The report, based on data from the Office for National Statistics and the IMF, highlights the rapid growth of Africa's tech ecosystem—up 40% since 2019—and names Lagos as the world's top emerging tech hub.
London Builds Momentum as Gateway for African Investment
London has long positioned itself as a key destination for African capital. Since 2013, it has remained the leading European city for African foreign direct investment, attracting 72 African-led investment projects. It is also ranked second globally among cities outside Africa in attracting such investment.
Mayor Khan recently returned from a high-profile trade mission to African capitals including Lagos, Accra, Johannesburg and Cape Town, where he met with local officials and private sector leaders. The visit, he said, was aimed at 'building stronger bridges' with the continent and exploring new avenues for collaboration.
He was accompanied by a delegation of 27 London-based companies looking to grow in African markets.
'London is uniquely positioned to benefit from Africa's fast-growing economies—whether through tech startups or financial services,' Khan said. 'This summit is a key part of our international strategy and will help generate thousands of high-quality jobs in the coming years.'
The summit is expected to mark a turning point in UK-Africa relations, at a time when both sides are seeking to diversify economic partnerships. Organisers say it will not only boost bilateral trade but also strengthen London's role as a platform for global investment into Africa's innovation economy.

Egypt's Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UAE-based Al Qalaa Investments and China's Red Flag to expand its capacity in human and veterinary vaccine production and develop plasma-derived therapies, the Ministry of Health announced on Monday. Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the agreement supports Egypt's national strategy to attract foreign investment, localise biotechnology industries, and advance scientific research and innovation under the country's Vision 2030 sustainable development framework. The partnership aims to position Egypt as a regional hub for vaccine manufacturing and exports—particularly to African and Arab markets—while ensuring self-sufficiency in critical vaccines and plasma-based products. Sherif El-Fil, CEO of VACSERA, described the deal as a major step toward transferring advanced vaccine manufacturing technologies to Egypt. He said it would secure the domestic supply of safe, effective vaccines and open new export opportunities. El-Fil added that the collaboration will also strengthen VACSERA's capabilities in plasma processing and biopharmaceutical production, reinforcing its role as a key regional player in the vaccine industry. The MoU was signed by Sherif El-Fil for VACSERA, Li Yang, CEO of China's Red Flag, and Ashraf El-Badawy, CEO of UAE's Al Qalaa Investments.

Alexander Isak's future at Newcastle hangs in the balance after the Swedish striker was reportedly told to train apart from the rest of the squad on Wednesday. The 25-year-old has been linked with a British transfer record move to Liverpool after failing to feature in Newcastle's pre-season preparations. Isak missed the Magpies' trip to Singapore and South Korea, citing a minor thigh injury, and instead flew to Spain to train at former club Real Sociedad. He has since returned to Tyneside but Sky Sports reported that Isak was instructed to train after the rest of the squad had departed on Wednesday. "You have to earn the right to train with us. We are Newcastle United," Howe told reporters earlier in pre-season. "We will make sure that any player earns the right to train with the group. Liverpool have seen a £110 million ($146 million) bid for Isak rejected, according to reports, with Newcastle seeking closer to £150 million. Another major hurdle to any deal is Newcastle's ongoing struggles to finalise a deal to replace Isak. They face competition from Manchester United for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko after missing out on Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Liam Delap earlier in the window. Liverpool have already splashed out over £250 million this window on Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong. However, they have also recouped major funds from the sales of Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Tyler Morton. And Darwin Nunez is close to a £46 million move to Saudi side Al Hilal that would free up more resources and space in the squad for another bid to sign Isak. Egypt reiterates readiness to fund Ugandan water projects in Nile Basin - Foreign Affairs
Egypt reiterated on Wednesday its readiness to "finance and mobilize the necessary financing" for Uganda's water-related infrastructure projects in the Nile Basin during bilateral talks in Entebbe. Egypt also has pledged to support development projects in the upstream nations, Uganda, as per a joint statement released by both nations following the conclusion of the second round of (2+2) ministerial consultations between Egyptian and Ugandan officials. The consultation round was held in Entebbe on Monday and Tuesday. Both nations also underscored their commitment to "win-win cooperation" and the importance of avoiding significant harm to the Nile River. They also agreed to hold regular consultations on Nile water management, to reach a cooperative agreement that adheres to international law, according to the statement. The commitment aligns with a new financing mechanism approved by the Egyptian cabinet last year. The mechanism aims to strengthen Egypt's African ties, particularly the Nile Basin countries, as being a strategic depth for Egypt. Egypt's commitment to support Uganda's projects is based on successful collaborations in the Owen Dam and the Water Weed Control Project in Uganda, the statement noted. Meanwhile, Egypt, the statement noted, welcomed the "constructive engagement" in the Nile Basin Initiative's (NBI) Ad Hoc Committee, which is currently presided over by Uganda. The committee engages with NBI countries that have not yet ratified the Cooperative Framework Agreement (CFA), also known as the "Entebbe Agreement." Egypt froze its full participation in the NBI in 2010 due to disagreements over the CFA, which contains three controversial items that Egypt rejects, including a provision on water security. "The two parties look forward to the continuation of the Nile Basin Initiative's consultative process to restore comprehensive participation and achieve win-win cooperation among the Nile Basin countries," the Egyptian-Ugandan statement said. An Egyptian delegation, led by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, participated in the (2+2) consultations. In a side meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Monday, Minister Abdelatty underscored that Cairo will take all necessary measures guaranteed under international law to protect its water security. 'The Nile River is an existential issue for Egypt,' Abdelatty stated. Abdelatty's comments come as Ethiopia plans to inaugurate its disputed dam – built on the Nile River and known as GERD – in September despite a lack of agreement with downstream countries, Egypt and Sudan. Cairo and Khartoum, while not opposed to Ethiopia's development aims, have repeatedly criticized Addis Ababa's unilateral actions after it filled the dam in five stages between 2020 and 2024 Elevated Bilateral Cooperation According to the joint statement, Egypt and Uganda have agreed to intensify high-level exchanges, including ministerial and summit visits, as well as enhance bilateral cooperation in defence, security, law enforcement, peacebuilding, and counter-terrorism. This includes exchanging expertise and providing technical cooperation on water resources management and capacity building, the statement clarified. Such commitment will be coordinated via bodies from both nations, such as the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding, as well as the Egyptian Diplomatic Institute and Uganda's National Defence and Diplomatic Colleges. Furthermore, both nations will encourage their private sectors to boost bilateral trade and investment by organising trade visits, promoting investment, and holding forums to explore new opportunities.
