The annual 'Saral Vizha' in Courtallam, which commenced on July 20, concluded here on Sunday.
The events for the 'Saral Vizha' was organised at the Kalaivanar auditorium in Courtallam, where cultural programs and various competitions were held every day. A flower exhibition was also organised for six days at the Eco Park near the Courtallam waterfalls.
The eight-day long festival concluded with a grand finale presided over by District Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore. The final day featured traditional dance, dramas, folk art performances, 'Mayilattam' and musical programs.
As part of the celebrations, a dog show was held at the Viswanathar Park in Courtallam. The event showcased 150 dogs belonging to 30 different breeds. A team of professors of Government Veterinary College in Tirunelveli examined the dogs' health and performance and selected the best ones.
Special prizes were awarded to the top performing dogs in all 30 breeds, including native breeds and foreign breeds, with the top two winners in each category receiving special awards.
The event was attended by officials from Department of Animal Husbandry and veterinarians.

Instagram reels, photographic competition on tourist destinations of Tenkasi district

The district administration has proposed to conduct Instagram reels and photographic competition on promoting the tourist destination of the district as part of the 'Saaral Thiruvizhaa 2025' celebrations. In a statement, District Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore said good number of competitions is to be conducted as part of the 'Saaral Thiruvizhaa 2025' to be held between July 20 and 27. Those who are good at preparing Instagram reels and photography may participate in the competition on popularising the stunningly beautiful tourist destination of Tenkasi. The participants should prepare the 60-second-long video on their own and should not use the patented contents. In the photographic competition, the exhibitors should submit the photos taken by them and it should be in the size of 18 cm into 12 cm. Patented photographs will be rejected. Winners will be honoured with cash awards and certificates in the valedictory function of the 'Saaral Thirivizhaa 2025' on July 27. The first prize is ₹10,000 and ₹5,000 and ₹3,000 will be the second and third prizes respectively. Entries should be made before July 21 through dmutenkasi@gmailcom or WhatsApp number 99527 51152. The district administration reserves the rights to use these reels and the photos for tourism promotion, Mr. Kamal Kishore said.

‘Saaral Thiruvizhaa 2025' at Courtallam from July 19 to 27

The 'Saaral Thiruvizhaa 2025' will be held at Courtallam for nine days between July 19 and 27 where cultural troupes from Tamil Nadu and other southern States will perform. Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, District Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore said nine-day-long events will provide platform for the folk artistes, cultural troupes from various southern States to exhibit their talents besides organising a range of competitions for the public and the students. The flower show will be organised by the Department of Horticulture in the 'Eco Park' near Five Falls from July 19 to 22. The tentative events of 'Saaral Thiruvizhaa 2025': July 19: Bharatanatyam, jikkaattam, naiyaandi melam, karagaattam and light music July 20: Chubby babies competition, silambam, cultural events by Kerala artistes, light music. July 21: Yoga competition, dance and drama, villupaattu, paavaikooththu and light music. July 22: Boating competitions, folk artists' performance, Toda dance by troupe from Poompaarai, Kodaikanal, cultural events from by Karnataka artistes, light music. July 23: Elocution, essay, drawing, singing and poetry competition for school students, transgenders' programme, kaniyaan kooththu, bharatanatyam, cultural events by Karnataka artistes and light music. July 24: Rangoli competition, villupaattu, mallar kambam, bharatanatyam and cultural events by Andhra Pradesh and Telengana artistes. July 25: Smokeless cooking competition, millets cooking competition, naiyaandi melam, karagaattam, clarinet music, thappaattam, cultural events by Andhra Pradesh and Telengana artistes, light music. July 26: Weightlifting competition, Mr. Courtallam, folk arts, comedy, jimla melam and light music. July 27: Dog show, dance and drama, folk arts, maadu aattam, mayilaattam, cultural events by Maharashtra artistes and light music.
