The Ministry of Industry and Commerce was recognised yesterday for its high-performing Metal Testing Center, which earned a prestigious Golden Shield under the government's flagship service evaluation initiative, 'Taqyeem 5'.
The shield was presented by Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Duaij Al Khalifa, Director General of the Institute of Public Administration and Vice Chair of the Government Service Centers Evaluation Committee, in the presence of His Excellency Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce.
The Metal Testing Center achieved Gold Category status in the latest round of the 'Taqyeem' programme, which benchmarks public service quality across the Kingdom.
The award highlights the centre's progress in raising standards of customer service and operational efficiency.
H.E. Fakhro attributed the achievement to the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, stating that such backing has been a key driver of systemic improvement across government entities.
He also commended the team at the Metal Testing Center for their commitment to innovation and service delivery, calling the unit a 'distinguished model' of government performance.
'This achievement reflects our dedication to performance development and digital upgrading of services,' H.E. Fakhro said, adding that it aligns with the broader goals of public satisfaction and responsiveness.

Finance leaders reimagine Global Investment Future

TDT | Manama Global finance took on a broader meaning at the 'Investment Reimagined' event hosted by the Bahrain Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on Wednesday, as over 150 finance professionals and industry leaders came together to explore evolving definitions of investment in today's fast-changing world. Beyond capital Held at Wyndham Grand, the gathering delved into new-age investment thinking - where value isn't confined to portfolios and assets, but also extends to knowledge, people, and innovation. Speakers challenged conventional models and offered forward-thinking strategies to navigate uncertainty and technological disruption in the global economy. The event was powered by Care PMS, with distinguished speakers Arpit Shah and Vishal Shah leading the dialogue. Their insights explored how finance professionals must adapt to emerging opportunities by reimagining investment through a more inclusive and strategic lens. Celebrating potential A key highlight of the evening was the Award Ceremony recognising high-performing commerce students from schools across Bahrain. ICAI Bahrain Chapter described the gesture as an investment in the Kingdom's intellectual capital, honouring future leaders in the field of finance. 'Recognising young academic talent is as important as market performance,' said an ICAI spokesperson at the event. 'These students represent the future of the finance profession, and we are proud to acknowledge their achievements.' Support and partnerships The event was made possible through the continued support of ICAI Bahrain Chapter's annual sponsors, SSPL and Cube Innovators. The organisers also extended gratitude to attendees, speakers, and volunteers for making the event a success. By blending technical insights with community recognition, the event reaffirmed ICAI Bahrain's role in steering professional conversations while celebrating educational excellence.

Egypt unveils plan for new desert city in latest megaproject

TDT | Cairo Egypt yesterday unveiled plans for a vast new urban development west of Cairo where a manmade channel of the River Nile will eventually wind through what was once arid desert. The new city, named Jirian meaning 'Flow' in Arabic, is part of Egypt's Nile Delta scheme, a massive agricultural initiative aiming to reclaim about 2.5 million acres west of the original Nile Delta. The ambitious agricultural project, which started in 2021, seeks to boost production of strategic crops such as wheat and corn while reducing the North African country's food import bill. The project is the latest in a string of megaprojects launched by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in recent years, including a new administrative capital east of Cairo.
