The historical adventure series, which was released on July 23, stars Ernest Kingsley Jr in the lead role, with Eddie Karanja portraying a young Washington Black.

Set in the early 1800s in Barbados and Nova Scotia, the plot follows Wash, a young boy who is forced to flee his home on a sugar plantation following a shocking death.

He ends up under the care of Medwin Harris (played by Sterling K. Brown), who himself had a traumatic childhood as a Black refugee.
Ernest Kingsley Jr, a stage and TV actor, launched his career in the sci-fi series, The Sparticle Mystery, reports the Express.

He has since appeared in guest roles in several big titles, including playing Kai'ckul in The Sandman and starring in the third season of War of the Worlds.
In terms of his stage work, the young actor was part of the Royal Court Theatre production of Is God Is in 2021, alongside Adelayo Adedayo.
Last year, he was cast in a short film titled Foxhill, which also starred Robson Green.

Kingsley Jr studied at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and, during an appearance on The One Show, he expressed gratitude to his former teacher Erin Holland.
Holland had guided him towards a career in acting through a college production of West Side Story.
Ernest revealed: "I was applying to drama schools at the time and she told me which ones to go to.
"It was after that I was like, 'You know what, I want to pursue acting'. If it wasn't for her pushing me and seeing the best in me, maybe I wouldn't have done it."
Washington Black is available on Hulu and Disney Plus.

Netflix quietly adds 'best show ever' as 'obsessed' fans cancel their weekend plans

Netflix viewers have admitted they're cancelling their weekend plans to binge-watch a beloved series that has finally been added to the streaming platform Netflix subscribers have confessed they're scrapping their weekend arrangements to binge-watch a cherished series that's just landed on the platform. ‌ US comedy-drama Shameless originally premiered in 2011, based on Paul Abbott's British programme of the same title. The American adaptation, located in Chicago's South Side, Illinois, lasted for 11 seasons before concluding in 2021. ‌ The show centres on the troubled Gallagher clan, headed by Frank, a negligent alcoholic dad to six children. Whilst he wastes his days jobless, getting intoxicated and high, his offspring Fiona, Phillip, Ian, Debbie, Carl and Liam battle to earn money, resorting to cons, relationships and criminal activity to get by. ‌ Despite tackling gritty themes including serious problems and family dysfunction, supporters have labelled it "hilariously genius" and have started rewatching the programme once more. The cast features William H Macy as Frank, plus Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Allen White, Cameron Monaghan, Ethan Cutkosky and Emma Kenney, reports the Express. ‌ The programme boasts an average Rotten Tomatoes score of 82%, with multiple seasons achieving flawless ratings individually. One viewer gushed: "I can talk about this show 24/7 when I started the first episode nothing could stop me for watching it I stayed up all night all day infront of my laptop watching this masterpiece." Another commented: "Seriously Shameless is the best show I have ever watched." ‌ A third posted: "Shameless is the best series ever created, I'm not kidding. the only series that talks about important issues without making them boring or too heavy." "I can't believe it's taken this long for me to get obsessed with this show. It's amazing-the type you can't miss for a quick bathroom break or you'll miss the storyline. Every individual character was cast so well and each one is unbelievable and grows on you in a hilariously genius way," someone else praised. ‌ "This is probably one of the most raw and impressively jarring dramedies on television. From its witty humor to its exposure of deep human emotions, Shameless is a masterpiece of intelligent screen writing and chaos," another echoed. Upon hearing it had landed on Netflix, some devotees even went as far as scrapping their weekend arrangements. One person declared: "Shameless is now on Netflix, weekend plans cancelled." ‌ Another penned: "Proud to say every season of Shameless is now on Netflix, I'll be rejoining the Gallagher family soon." "All 11 seasons of Shameless are on Netflix. Nature is healing. What a perfect time to be on sick leave man," someone else remarked. ‌ The programme left supporters heartbroken when it concluded in 2021 following an 11th series, with showrunner John Wells subsequently discussing how various plotlines remained unresolved and the possibility of a future spin-off. When quizzed about a potential comeback, he told The Hollywood Reporter: "There is nothing planned. But never say never. It's a crazy world out there with people reviving shows and characters. "But we get to tell a lot of great stories with these people and wonderful actors, writers and directors. If we never tell another story with them, I think we did a lot that I'm proud of and that we're all proud of. "You never know. But we're surely not planning anything."

Australian reality TV stars shocked by VERY surprising cameo in newly released Happy Gilmore 2 film

Two Australian reality TV stars have expressed their shock after making a very unexpected cameo in the newly released US film Happy Gilmore 2. Love Island Australia stars Kaylah Holmes, 23, and Hannah Steinfeld, 25, are featured in a scene in the Netflix movie - in which the characters watch LIA on TV. In the Adam Sandler movie, golfer John Daly (playing himself) and Christopher McDonald (reprising his role from part one) are seen watching a racy clip from LIA on a TV at Gilmore's house. In the movie, Hannah is seen on the TV flaunting her jaw-dropping bikini body as she takes an outdoor shower, while chatting to Kaylah. 'This girl's got some body on her!' Christopher's character remarks about Kaylah, to which John replies: 'Hey, we do not objectify women anymore.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The shock cameo caught the attention of both reality stars, with Kaylah sharing a clip from the movie to social media and writing alongside it: 'Definitely didn't expect to see this when watching Happy Gilmore 2,' while Hannah added: 'Iconic'. Kaylah and Hannah featured on series six of the Channel Nine reality TV series LIA in 2024. Love Island Australia is available to watch in America on Disney's streaming platform Hulu. The long-awaited sequel premiered on Netflix on Friday. It's been nearly three decades since the cast of Happy Gilmore initially hit the links. And three of the film's iconic stars looked almost unrecognisable on Tuesday, when they appeared on the Today show. Adam Sandler, Christopher McDonald, and Julie Bowen appeared on the show to discuss the highly-anticipated sequel to the hit 1996 comedy. Sandler, 58, who played the eponymous character, was sporting a shock of salt-and-pepper facial hair, looking a far cry from the fresh-faced 28-year-old who appeared in the original. In the Adam Sandler movie, golfer John Daly (right) is seen watching a racy clip from LIA on a TV at Gilmore's house His casual sense of style hadn't changed though, with the actor wearing a colourful floral-patterned shirt. Julie Bowen, 55, who played Happy's love interest Virginia Venit, also cut a distinctly different figure from her '90s self. In the original film, Julie sported a very era-appropriate short blonde bob. Julie, who is also known for her iconic role as Claire Dunphy on Modern Family, wore her much longer blonde locks down for the chat. She also cut a very stylish figure in a smart houndstooth skirt and matching jacket. Chris McDonald, meanwhile, has not changed markedly since his days playing the film's iconic antagonist Shooter McGavin. Now 70, Chris was sporting a very similar 'do' to the one he had in the comedy juggernaut, only now with a greyer hue. Speaking about the anticipated sequel, the trio admitted they weren't trying to break new ground, but rather play up the nostalgia angle. The sequel comes almost three decades after the original film debuted.

Helen Flanagan sports painful looking black eye after getting £400 skin jabs

HELEN Flanagan has been spotted sporting a black eye after undergoing a round of £400 skin injections. The former Coronation Street actress could be seen with a bruised face as she stopped to pick up a few essentials from a local shop before heading back into her car. 6 6 6 6 Dressed casually for her brief outing, Helen wore a simple plain black T-shirt as she clutched onto various items from inside the store. Going make-up free, Helen's painful looking black eye could be visibly seen as she kept her sunglasses propped upon her head before getting into her vehicle. Helen is understood to have acquired the bruising after opting for a series of £400 skin injections into her face. The TV favourite confirmed she had undergone the procedure on her Instagram stories shortly before she was seen with the shiner. Helen told her fans that she had undergone Polynucleotides, a procedure which aims to rejuvenate the skin and face with no added volume. The 34-year-old mum-of-three thanked her practitioner as she posted online as she added: "I only go to @drnataliehowarth for my face as I trust her a million percent." Helen's decision to plump up her face comes after she cut all ties with her ex Robbie Talbot - two months on from their shock split. Helen and Robbie began dating last year in secret even though she was booked to appear on Celebs Go Dating. She later confessed that she had a boyfriend and their romance was instead chronicled on the show. However, they called it quits earlier this year amid a difficult time for Helen. Helen Flanagan stuns in lingerie as she cuts final ties with ex Robbie Talbot two months after split And whilst things between the exes seemed civil just weeks ago - the pair have now both removed one another from their social media platforms. Helen appears to have unfollowed Robbie with he doing the same back to the former Coronation Street actress. The busty star last notably interacted with Robbie just five weeks ago when she very publicly wished him a Happy Father's Day on his Instagram account. Underneath a photo of him and his daughters, Helen liked the post before writing: "Happy Father's Day Robbie your the best daddy to Sophia and Carina they love you so much." Her comments came despite the fact that the pair had officially split up. It sparked hopes of a reunion but those now appear to be dashed following their public unfollowing online. 6 6
