‘Bruno Mars Net Worth' Trend Explained Amid Out of Debt Joke
But why is Bruno Mars' net worth trending, and what's the joke about him being out of debt? Here's everything you need to know.
Bruno Mars shared a post on Instagram, highlighting his surprise appearance at BLACKPINK's concert at SoFi Stadium in L.A. At the concert, he joined Rosé in performing the duo's hit song 'APT.'
'Almost out of debt BehhhhhBehhhhh!!!' Mars captioned the post, adding, 'Preciate You ROSAAAAYYYYYY!!!!
The caption humorously references a rumor that made the rounds last year. This rumor, which supposedly originated from a NewsNation report, alleged that the 'Die with a Smile' singer amassed a $50 million debt to MGM Resorts. An insider claimed that MGM 'basically [owned]' Bruno Mars. They added, 'He makes $90 million a year off of the deal he did with the casino, but then he has to pay back his debt… after taxes (Mars makes $1.5 million per night).'
MGM Resorts subsequently debunked the rumor in a statement to multiple outlets.
'We're proud of our relationship with Bruno Mars, one of the world's most thrilling and dynamic performers,' the statement read. 'From his shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM to the new Pinky Ring lounge at Bellagio, Bruno's brand of entertainment attracts visitors from around the globe,' it added. (via Complex)
It continued, 'MGM and Bruno's partnership is longstanding and rooted in mutual respect. Any speculation otherwise is completely false; he has no debt with MGM.'
MGM concluded its statement, expressing excitement at 'creating unforgettable experiences' for guests.
This wasn't the first time Mars made a joke about the debt rumors. Early this year, the pop icon celebrated a major milestone in his career — reaching 150 million monthly listeners on Spotify. He took to Instagram Stories to encourage fans to continue streaming his music, jokingly adding, 'I'll be out of debt in no time.' (via US Weekly)

An Instagram Poet With Hints of Interesting Darkness
A REBELLION OF CARE: Poems and Essays, by David Gate Last spring I became fascinated by a David Gate poem called 'Like Every Selfie.' As I was reading it I kept hearing music, at least in my mind. Pretty soon I realized I was hearing the sound of early Talking Heads, particularly the perky/menacing lyrics of songs like 'Don't Worry About the Government' and 'The Big Country.' Suddenly it was easy for me to imagine David Byrne shouting and jerkily dancing his way through 'Like Every Selfie,' with its exhortations to appreciate your friends while they are still here — 'Praise their haircuts' and 'Love their tattoos,' etc. This is how the poem ends: Don't wait for the eulogiesTo speak out loudThat your friends are preciousAnd they make you feel proud Yes to friendship: I suspect we all agree with that sentiment. As Byrne once put it, 'My friends are important.' But was I reading 'Like Every Selfie' the right way? By absorbing it as if it were a lost Talking Heads track, I began to wonder whether I was granting 'Like Every Selfie' extra layers — layers of ironic detachment, social critique, strangeness and humor — that the poem itself could not pretend to contain. This experience happened again and again as I plunged into 'A Rebellion of Care,' Gate's debut collection of poems and essays. I had questions of context, questions of tone. I kept asking, 'How are we supposed to interact with this?' I should cut to the chase here and point out that Gate is an Instagram poet. He is part of a movement of verse-posters who have achieved fame on social media — in part because they don't write like the poets of the literary and academic establishment. Radical simplicity and therapeutic bromides are the coin of the realm among the Instagram poets, which means that they — like Rod McKuen, the Yung Pueblo of the 1970s — are easy to make fun of. In 'A Rebellion of Care,' a compendium of his hits, Gate's poems make statements that you can't imagine disagreeing with. The title of the poem usually tells you what's about to go down, as in 'Stay Weird' ('Make your corner of this planet/as weird as you want to'), and 'Flower Power' ('What a world it is that insists/a man, such as I am, can never/appreciate a marigold'), and 'Friendship Will Save Us' ('Friendship is what will save us/so fall deeply in love with your friends'). Sometimes the poems come across like Influencer Beatitudes, sagely guiding us on how to live out loud … on social media. 'Never stop spamming the timeline,' Gate writes, 'with all the things that you love/if you live in a beautiful place/show me.' Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Guava Nails Are Summer's Freshest Take On Cat-Eye Polish
From polka-dot manicures and 'Italian Summer'-inspired nail art to sorbet shades and beach nails, there has been no shortage of incredible nail inspiration for our summer manicures this year. And our latest collective obsession with fruity nails has given rise to an emerging trend to watch for the season ahead: guava nails. While your first thought might be that guava nails are just a new way to describe bubblegum pink, think again. This manicure is actually a shimmering fusion of green and pink that's as juicy as the fruit itself. Teamed with a multidimensional finish (think chrome or jelly), the result is a playful manicure that feels fresh and fun. So as our social feeds start to fill with hot takes on this sweet summer nail trend, here's everything you need to know about it — inspiration included. View this post on Instagram A post shared by 📍PEABODY MA, your nail plug (@polishedbycarrissa) What are guava nails? Some people might refer to a bright pink manicure as 'guava', but this summer's iteration of guava nails is more complex than just paying homage to the flesh of this tropical fruit. 'This year's trend is inspired by all of the tropical tones of the guava fruit and blends juicy pinks with corals and soft greens to mimic the fruit's natural appearance,' explains session manicurist Ami Streets. Yes, guava nails 2.0 are all about contrast and depth rather than a flat colourblock manicure. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Zola Ganzorigt (@nailsbyzola) The most popular iteration is a cat-eye finish: 'The colours are layered using ombré techniques, jelly finishes or magnetic cat-eye effects to mimic the fruit's juicy texture and natural glow,' says Streets. Rather than leaning overly neon and bright, this version of guava nails feels undeniably cooler and there are so many ways to wear it, too. 'Rather than having the cat-eye all over the nails, you can scale it down and apply it just to the middle of the nail or go for a guava nail tip or half moon,' suggests London-based nail technician Metta Francis. View this post on Instagram A post shared by ᑎᗩᑎᗩ 💅🏼𝐺𝑒𝑙 𝑋 & 𝐷𝑒𝑠𝑖𝑔𝑛 ( SCV ) (@trendsnailstudio) How do you create guava nails? If you're heading to the salon for this look, it's all about layering different colours and finishes for that multidimensional effect. 'Layer on a soft green magnetic shimmer gel and use a magnet to manipulate the pigment for a cat-eye effect, then apply a pink or coral, sheer jelly formula to the centre of the nail for that juicy, fruit-inspired finish,' explains Streets. Manicurists are also known to add the centre pop of colour by softly dabbing a powder pink pigment or eyeshadow into the nail using a sponge or fluffy brush. 'This creates a diffused, blurred effect,' says Streets. Finish with an ultra-glossy top coat to seal it all in and create that mirror-glass shine. No UV lamp or want to DIY guava nails yourself at home? Streets suggests following the same layering techniques but switching out the gel formulations for sheer jelly polishes and iridescent formulations. Try Zoya Nail Polish in Meg, £13.99, with Essie Jelly Gloss in Blush Jelly, £8.99. 'You could use a sponge to create an ombré technique, then finish with a glossy top coat to smooth the finish,' says Streets.
