The official description for the series reads, 'Hollis Shaw (Garner), a famed food influencer known for her delicious recipes, impeccable taste and warm demeanor, suffers a devastating loss. Unable to move forward, the death starts to expose the cracks in Hollis's picture-perfect life — her strained marriage, her complicated relationship with her daughter and her growing pursuit of validation from her followers. In an effort to overcome grief and find herself again, Hollis gets the idea to host a weekend away at her house on Nantucket with three friends from different stages in her life: her childhood, her 20s, 30s and one surprise fifth star. Set against a luxurious and coastal backdrop, they will mature in ways they could never imagine as boundaries are pushed and secrets are exposed.'
Carden is best known for starring as Janet in 'The Good Place,' which ran on NBC for four seasons from 2016 to 2020. She also played Natalie Greer in 'Barry' from 2018 to 2023, and Greta Gill in 2022's 'A League of Their Own,' and recurred in 'Broad City' as Gemma from 2014 to 2019.

Noah Lyles staring down Kenny Bednarek was great cinema for track

Just when track and field starts to fade from the consciousness of the average casual like myself, here comes Noah Lyles injecting new life into the sport with another of his antics that force you to pay attention. On Sunday, it was Lyles staring down Kenny Bednarek as the two crossed the 200m finish line at the U.S. track and field championships after Lyles walked down his fellow Olympian to earn the win. The race itself was phenomenal. Bednarek had Lyles beat -- until Lyles hit another gear for the final few yards and pulled ahead. But what Lyles did in victory -- and how Bednarek reacted -- is why anyone is talking about it today. The stare down made for a colddddd photo finish, but Bednarek understandably wasn't here for it -- especially with Lyles seemingly slowing down in front of him to make sure Bednarek acknowledged what just took place. As the NBC broadcaster said, "the little look over and the discussion after is to make sure that he asserts his dominance." So, Bednarek gave Lyles a little shove, and the two exchanged words all the way into the post-race interview. It was absolute cinema. Admittedly, as much fun as I'm having with this today, I find these kind of gimmicks from Lyles to be somewhat off-putting. From him going after NBA players over shoes and "world" championships to his Yu-Gi-Oh! card pulls. There's a thin line between endearing braggadocio and annoying attention-seeking, and Lyles leans more toward the latter for me. But in an individual sport like track that only reaches mainstream audiences through stars, the tactics an athlete uses to cut through the noise are less important than whether they actually back it up once they do. And Lyles usually backs it up. That's why he has a perpetual license to taunt as much as he wants. On Sunday, it made for a moment we're still talking about the next day. More importantly, it made the next meeting between Lyles and Bednarek appointment viewing, with Bednarek saying "next time we line up, Ima win." We can't wait to see him try. An MLB Speedway Classic champion crowned After a false start Saturday, MLB's Speedway Classic finally got off the ground Sunday and ended better than it started when fans on social media were comparing the event to the disastrous Fyre Festival. In the end, the Atlanta Braves came away with the win over the Cincinnati Reds, and even picked up some hardware for their troubles. No really, the Braves got a trophy for this thing. A giant trophy at that. Social media had a ball with this one too, because of course it did. We have a trade The top team in the WNBA just got a little better Sunday, as the Minnesota Lynx pulled off a trade to acquire DiJonai Carrington from the Dallas Wings. Minnesota had to give up promising young forward Diamond Miller in the deal, but Carrington gives the team a veteran on the wing who's playoff-tested and ready to contribute to winning right away. FTW's Meg Hall graded the deal favorably for the Lynx: "Bringing in Carrington does a few things for Reeve's squad. First, it adds valuable guard and wing depth. Carrington is more comfortable as a wing, but could take over point guard duties if necessary. She can even start if they need her to, which is huge. With that in mind, veteran Kayla McBride has to be jumping for joy right now. Carrington will fit nicely as depth behind her, and because she's an excellent defender, it takes a lot more pressure off McBride to have to be everything all at once." Love Island USA: JaNa Craig Pleads With Fans To Help Her ‘Close This Chapter' Amid Kenny Rodriguez Split

Love Island USA star JaNa Craig wants to move on with life following her split from Kenny Rodriguez. Source: River Callaway / Getty In the midst of the former couple's messy breakup, Craig, 28, took to Instagram on Thursday, July 31, to send a message to her fans, insisting she is ready to 'close this chapter' of her life. Despite all of the nasty rumors surrounding the split, JaNa insists she is doing well, thanking everyone for their support in a video on her Instagram Stories. She showed off the abundance of flowers that friends and brands had sent to her apartment, expressing her gratitude before opening up about wanting to move on. 'I've seen all the love you guys drown me in on social media; it has been an overflow of just support and prayers, and that means more to me than you guys will ever know,' she said in the video. 'But I want to close this chapter of my life. Like, I don't want it to take any more of my energy. I don't want it to take any more of y'all energy. You guys did such an amazing job showing me that I'm OK and I'm gonna be OK, and that it's all love.' Source: Ben Symons / Peacock The Love Island USA Season 6 star continued, 'So if we can all agree to just like, close the chapter … it's draining me, and I know it's draining you guys, but just so you know, I saw all the love. What's done is done. God knows what happens. And that's all that matters.' JaNa made headlines earlier this week when she confirmed she was no longer with Kenny after nearly a year of dating. 'Hi my loves. Thank you for all your love & support. It means the world to me. As you know, Kenny and I are no longer together,' JaNa revealed on Tuesday, July 29, via Instagram Stories. 'Please know that I have seen all the breakup theories and none have matched up to how terrible, disgusting and disappointing it truly is. Discovering that someone you loved isn't who you thought they were and that the relationship you thought you were building hasn't been genuine since day one has been truly devastating.' Instagram Stories from JaNa's friends gave more insight into why the pair split, with multiple people calling Kenny 'racist' and one of her friends encouraging women to go through their partners' phones. While Craig has yet to reveal what happened, eagle-eyes fans have come to the conclusion that Rodriguez likely talked poorly about JaNa in text messages to his friends. Despite the messy split, JaNa posted a second video to her Instagram Stories on Thursday, encouraging her fans not to include Kenny's family in the drama. 'If you genuinely love me, if you genuinely care about me, you want to help me heal, I'm begging you, please leave Kenny's family alone,' she said. 'That family did nothing wrong to me. They were nothing but kind. Everyone I ever met always defended me, always stood up for me. Craig continued: 'Do not go to their houses. Do not go to their jobs. Do not threaten them. I'm begging you, leave them alone. They've been through enough.' Blocked ‘Bang, Bang, Bang!' Blessings: Marlon Wayans Alleges NBC Rejected ‘The Wayans Bros.' Because John Witherspoon's Pops Was ‘Too Ghetto'

Marlon Wayans recently alleged that if it were up to NBC, The Wayans Bros. never would've had one of the most iconic characters, John Witherspoon's Pops. The gag is… network execs wanted someone like Danny Glover instead. Source: Ethan Miller/Earl Gibson III / Getty Imagine the beloved sitcom without its biggest scene-stealer! On the latest episode of Baby, This Is Keke Palmer , Marlon shared that NBC allegedly tried to yeet Mr. 'Yitadee' himself, John Witherspoon. 'We didn't make it to NBC. We did a table reading, and they thought [Witherspoon's character] was too ghetto. And they wanted us to have a different father…like a Danny Glover type, and we was like, 'No,'' Wayans recalled. NBC had a lot of power in the era of hit shows like ER and Friends , the Him actor and his big brother Shawn weren't new to this. The silly siblings had their own track record of success as movie stars and network TV veterans of a historic comedy show. In Living Color was such a breakout hit that it created the Super Bowl Halftime Show as we know it and solidified Fox's status as the fourth major broadcast network. The same dynasty behind stars like Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx knows comedic gold when they see it. 'It's the flavor of the show. We was like, 'It's John Witherspoon or it's not.' … We ain't going to do the show. And they was like, 'Well, negro, you're not doing the show,'' he continued. A legend like Danny Glover was tempting, but Wayans and his team refused to fumble the Friday star's unmatched energy for respectability politics. Fortunately, the WB understood the assignment. 'We was like 'Wait, hold on, Danny Glover, you say?' But then, the WB was starting, and it was like, 'I think that's a great combination.' So, everything is God. One man's trash is another man's treasure, and it's not about the doors that close; it's the ones that open up,' Wayans said. The show went forward as planned, starring Witherspoon as the Pops we know and love. The series premiered on the WB in January 1995, with its fifth and final season ending in May 1999. Witherspoon passed away from a heart attack in 2019 at 77 years old. Wayans went on to discuss dealing with grief, starring in the next Jordan Peele film, his Wild Child tour, and the upcoming return of the horror spoof franchise with Scary Movie 6 .
