FIR against 11, including father, for selling minor, forced marriage in Rajasthan
Bikaner: Eleven people, including the girl's father and other family members, have been named in an FIR for allegedly selling a 15-year-old girl for ₹5 lakh and forcibly marrying her to a 50-year-old man against her consent in Rajasthan, police said. The minor's mother lodged an FIR against 11 people at the Khajuwala police station area on August 12. (Representative Photo) The minor's mother lodged an FIR against 11 people at the Khajuwala police station area on August 12. 'A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006,' station house officer (SHO) Surendra Kumar Prajapat said. The mother alleged that a proposal to marry her 15-year-old daughter came from a 50-year-old man, which she had opposed. However, her husband and son pressured her, claiming that the agreement had already been made. 'The mother, in her complaint, alleged that greed for money motivated the forced marriage. On August 6, a woman accompanied by the father and several others reportedly threatened the minor and forcibly took her away. She was held captive for three days at an unknown location. The mother was also prevented from helping her daughter during this period,' an officer said. The minor was brought back home on August 9, allegedly under the influence of intoxicants. 'That night, a group, including a Maulvi, arrived, and a forced marriage ceremony was carried out while the mother was locked in a room. Following the marriage, the 50-year-old husband allegedly attempted to sexually assault the girl,' the officer said. Police is yet record a statement from the girl, who have escaped and returned to her mother.

CBSE school in Kochi warned that its NOC will be revoked if it continued with medieval disciplinary measures
The Kerala State General Education department has warned a Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) school at Kakkanad in Kochi that it will be stripped of its No Objection Certificate (NOC) if it continued with its allegedly medieval disciplinary measures. This was after a Class V student and his family accused the school of making him run multiple rounds around the school ground under the sun for late arrival and leaving him alone in a room, without allowing him to attend class, on Thursday (August 14, 2025). The incident was reported from the Cochin Public School in Thrikkakara in Ernakulam district. Notice served Education Minister V. Sivankutty sought a report on the incident from the Deputy Director of Education (DDE), Ernakulam. The DDE office officials visited the school and served a notice warning that the NOC would be suspended unless the school ceased its allegedly medieval disciplinary measures. 'The school authorities were receptive and agreed to do away with such disciplinary measures, which involve denying permission for students who come late to school for more than three days to attend class. Either parents will have to take them back home or they will be made to sit in a room alone. They are also made to run multiple rounds around the ground. These people seem to have been caught up in a time warp. We will issue a copy of the notice to the Regional Director of CBSE as well for a potential inquiry,' said DDE sources. Reportedly, the family of the student and the school Principal had a heated exchange over the incident. The school authorities were not available for comments despite repeated attempts. A woman at the school who picked up the call curtly said that a meeting was under way and disconnected the call. Protest march Activists of student outfits, including the Students Federation of India and the Kerala Students Union, took out a protest march and barged into the school. They were removed by the police. 'We haven't received any complaint from the family without which we cannot take any action,' said the Thrikkakara police. Reportedly, the family has lodged a petition with the school management against the Principal.

Man sentenced to double death penalty for murder and rape of minor girl in Nalgonda
Twelve years after the rape and murder of a minor girl in Nalgonda, a local court on Thursday (August 14, 2025) sentenced a man to double death penalty and imposed a fine of ₹1.10 lakh. The court also ordered ₹10 lakh as compensation for the victim's family. The accused, identified as Mohammad Mukaram, 24 at the time of arrest, worked as a butcher in a beef shop and lived in the same neighbourhood as the victim. He was taken into custody by Nalgonda Town-I police in April 2013, a day after the girl went missing. Her body was recovered from a drainage canal near her home. Investigators found that Mukaram had lured the girl, who sold tea packets in the area, sexually assaulted her, strangled her to death and dumped her body in the canal. The court handed him one death sentence under the Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and another under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) As Mukaram has hearing and speech impairments, an interpreter was present throughout the proceedings to facilitate communication. Nalgonda Town-I Inspector A. Rajashekhar Reddy recalled that the girl's father lodged a missing complaint on April 28, 2013, after she failed to return home. On April 29, her mother reported to the police about a body found in a drainage canal, which was later identified as her daughter's. The local police, Clues Team and sniffer dogs traced the trail back to the accused's residence, leading to his immediate arrest. Nalgonda DSP K. Shivaram Reddy said that the public prosecutors Srivani Reddy and D. Srivani, along with the interpreter, played key roles in ensuring the conviction.
