HAS the class of Notable Speech and More Thunder fooled some over their optimum trip? I think so.
Ability over distance is a juggling act punters face in many races.

What do I mean by that?
Well in an extreme example let's take Frankel – arguably the world's best ever Flat horse – who clearly would have beaten a 70-rated handicap over 2m and a 70-rated sprinter over 5f.
Yet Frankel, from the evidence we have, was best at 1m and 1m2f. His class was just something else.
Notable Speech has only ever raced over a mile in his ten starts.
His victories include the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket and Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and his defeats include a fine third in the Breeders' Cup Mile.
But if the Charlie Appleby-trained runner had failed in the Guineas he might well have gone sprinting as a three-year-old.
On Saturday he finally does that in the Group 1 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai July Cup over 6f.
It was clearly a late decision, as he was supplemented at a cost of £36,000. But I suspect it will prove inspired.
Notable Speech's pedigree suggests speed is what he is all about.
His broodmare sire Invincible Spirit won the Haydock Park Sprint. He also has Pivotal in the mix, and he gets fast horses.
Lots of milers have done well in the July Cup.
Landseer was fourth in the 2002 renewal after landing a French 2000 Guineas, while Alcohol Free banged in the Sussex Stakes and Coronation before taking the 2022 July Cup.
Further back remember Chief Singer and Green Desert?
They were both placed in 2,000 Guineas and won this very same big sprint.
Ajdal landed the July Cup after running in the Derby and Royal Academy took this prize before a thrilling success in the Breeders' Cup Mile.
Dream Ahead went from the St James's Palace Stakes to this event having finished fifth at Ascot.
Notable Speech was actually seventh in that last year and fourth in the Queen Anne in June.
The trip will be no excuse for Notable Speech and his draw looks good. I'm confident he's easily the best horse.
Opposition in a big field includes Wathnan improver Flora Of Bermuda – third to owner companion Lazzat in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Royal Ascot – and Whistlejacket, sixth in the Commonwealth Cup but a fine juvenile for Aidan O'Brien and a horse who has been backed down from much bigger prices.
He won the July Stakes over course and distance last season but that was on good to soft.
Inisherin has the ability to run a big one but was only fifth this time last year when the 11-8 favourite.
Believing was poor at Royal Ascot from a bad draw, while Jasour might be the best of the outsiders.
It's a marathon on ITV Racing on Saturday, with no fewer than 12 races being shown. It will be hard to keep up.
More Thunder is back out for William Haggas in the bet365 Bunbury Cup over 7f after an unlucky second in the Wokingham over 6f at Royal Ascot.
That performance came on the back of two Newmarket successes oved 6f.
Tom Marquand described the Ascot defeat as 'disgusting', but like Notable Speech it might just be those 6f victories came from class.
Sir Michael Stoute ran this boy up to and extended 1m2f last season and he won his novice over 1m2f.
Seven furlongs in the Bunbury Cup should be no issue and it's easy to argue he's been crying out for a little further.
Who is to say he's not a Group horse masquerading as a handicapper and doesn't end up in something like the Group 1 Foret at the end of the season?
If he is then he's chucked in here off 98.
There is top class racing at York and Ascot too.
At York I'm hoping for a good spin from See That Storm in the John Smith's Cup Handicap over an extended 1m2f.
My selection goes for Ed Bethell and Callum Rodriguez and is lightly raced after just nine starts at the age of four.
He has a reasonable draw and upped to a mark of 95 - the same here - finished second to Burrito over a little bit further at this track last time.
This distance looks ideal and there is no reason why he won't be in the mix again - he has thrived since going to Bethell from the Andrew Balding yard.
A notable Saturday. Let's hope it's one to shout about let alone give a good speech!

The official stewards' decision said the winner Zulu Kingdom shifted left and did not leave enough room, which led to Tiz Dashing being taken back and into Luther's path Trainer Charlie Fellowes was left stunned by a controversial decision to promote his horse Luther to first in a graded race at Saratoga. The Frankel colt had crossed the line a length-and-a-half behind Zulu Kingdom in the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes on Friday night. However rider Joel Rosario objected to the result as Luther had been badly hampered at the first bend, an incident the stewards felt was caused by the original winner. After deliberations, Zulu Kingdom was demoted to fourth as the British runner banked £176,000 for connections on his second start in the US. Fellowes said he watched the race at home in the UK and was surprised as Luther inherited victory in the mile contest on firm ground. "I don't know what just happened, but I'm shocked," he said. "I could see that it was a really messy race and my fella got carved up a little early on, then rushed up into position. "He really ran an unbelievable race to finish second, considering all of that." Speaking to the Racing Post, Fellowes, who lost the French 1,000 Guineas in the stewards room earlier in the season, sympathised with connections of Zulu Kingdom. On that occasion his horse She's Perfect was deemed to have interfered with Zarigana and he added: "I lost the biggest race of my career so I know first-hand it's not the way you want to win." Michael Dubb, one of the owners of Zulu Kingdom, said they would not appeal the findings. The official stewards' decision read: "In the seventh race at Saratoga there was a jockeys objection involving the #7 Zulu Kingdom, placed first, ridden by Flavien Prat, the #2 Luther, placed second, ridden by Joel Rosario and #3 Tiz Dashing, placed fourth, ridden by Javier Castellano. "The incident occurred approaching the first bend. After viewing replays of the incident and questioning riders involved, the stewards were of the view that Zulu Kingdom shifted left leaving insufficient room on its inside, resulting in Tiz Dashing having to take back for a number of strides and carried left into the path of Luther, who made contact with the running rail for numerous strides and caused the rider to check sharply, losing significant momentum and resulted in Luther losing its racing position into the first turn. "The stewards are satisfied that the incident cost #2 Luther and #3 Tiz Dashing the opportunity at a better placing and as a result #7 Zulu Kingdom was disqualified from 1st and placed 4th. The revised order of finish is 2-5-3-7."

Trailblazing jockey blames sex with drug using ex-partner for positive cocaine test
Sibylle Vogt, one of Europe's top female jockeys, was banned for six months by stewards in France after testing positive for the banned drug A trailblazing jockey has been suspended for six months over a positive cocaine test she blamed on contamination from her drug-using ex-partner. Sibylle Vogt, who is Swiss born but is based in Germany where she works for Arc-winning trainer Peter Schiergen, is one of Europe's leading female jockeys. She became the first woman to ride a Classic winner when capturing the German 1,000 Guineas on Novemba in 2021 and was due to take part in this month's Shergar Cup at Ascot until having to pull out after failing a drugs test. At the time she took time out she had ridden 17 winners in Germany which put her third position in the German Flat jockeys' championship. Vogt was riding at a meeting in Compiegne, France when she gave a sample which tested positive for cocaine, which was confirmed when a B sample was examined. The shocked jockey made a statement which said: "The news has completely shocked me. I can't, for the life of me, explain how this outcome could have come about. Throughout my entire career—and beyond—I have never had contact with drugs or other illegal substances.' She repeated the assertions when the case came before France Galop's disciplinary panel, with her lawyer telling the panel she had no reason to take a prohibited substance and was well aware of the rules. Vogt's counsel told the panel that her partner at the time had admitted using cocaine, which she was 'unaware of', and they had 'sexual relations in the days preceding the sample, particularly the day before'. The hearing report said the jockey 'does not dispute being particularly at fault having lacked prudence by maintaining relations with a person using prohibited substances'. She said the relationship was over and that she would be 'extremely vigilant' in future. The panel imposed a six month suspension which will end in November and ordered she undergo further drug testing. The report concludes: "The analysis of the biological sample revealed the presence of a substance classified as a narcotic and its metabolites. 'This is not disputed and explained by the jockey as a result of considerations of her private life, with Sybille Vogt providing relevant evidence and admitting her fault.'

Back a horse by clicking their odds below. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up FIFTH COLUMN (2.30 Goodwood, nap) John Gosden has a nice three-year-old on his hands in this son of Kingman. He showed promise last season and got off the mark in a Kempton maiden on comeback in April. That form was quickly left behind with a smooth handicap success at Sandown - before an excellent effort in the Britannia at Royal Ascot. He was only seventh in that hot contest but he was first home in his group getting the worst of the draw. He clocked a personal best when winning at Newmarket last time and relishes this mile trip. He goes on any ground so it won't matter what the weather does. BIG MOJO (3.05 Goodwood, nb) Likes it here and can show his class in the King George Qatar Stakes. DIEGO VENTURA (1.55 Goodwood, treble) He is just about the only runner in the field who is proven in testing conditions - and looks set to get just that. Templegate's TV verdicts 1.20 KYLE OF LOCHALSH is fancied to go three better than last year's fourth and land this marathon prize. He's on the same mark, handles any ground and shaped with promise on his reappearance. He's much more lightly raced than 12 months ago and looks primed to peak. Aggagio loves it round here and was impressive under Ashley Lewis last time but stamina beyond 2m remains a question mark. Align The Stars hasn't quite fired this year but ran well in a strong Royal Ascot handicap and is lurking on a handy mark. He has a good record here but came up short in this last year. Tashkhan is classy and thrives in deep ground should it rain, with similar comments applying to Zinc White. Sheradann has been knocking on the door and shapes as though this trip will suit. Irish raider Mordor is interesting as this stamina test could bring improvement. 1.55 DIEGO VENTURA is just about the only runner in the field who is proven in testing conditions. James Doyle's mount has been running well at Listed level in France and scored over seven furlongs at Longchamp in May. He then went well at Epsom before going down in a bunch finish at Chantilly last time. Conditions will be ideal and he has more to come. Cosmic Year has shown his best on good ground as he showed when second in the Irish 2,000 Guineas which is strong form. The ground may not be ideal but this is a fair drop in class which makes him a player. King Of Cities has been placed on tacky ground and sees out this trip well. He has yet to win this season but could go well under Ryan Moore. Seagulls Eleven was a solid second to non-runner Opera Ballo at Newmarket last time. He's unproven on this ground and needs a step forward. 2.30 FIFTH COLUMN can take another step up for the Gosdens. His only defeat this season came when a strong-finishing seventh in the Britannia at Royal Ascot, where he won his group and shaped like the best horse on the far side. He confirmed that when winning stylishly at Newmarket last time, and a 3lb penalty might not be enough to anchor this improving three-year-old who can beat his elders. Skukuza is the main threat. He's officially 8lb well in after two smooth wins at The Curragh, including a Listed last time, and is clearly thriving. Greek Order ran a screamer in the Royal Hunt Cup on his first start back from the US and again shaped well at Sandown behind Arisaig who is a contender here. He's a big player if things fall right. Ebt's Guard has run well here before and wasn't beaten far in the Royal Hunt Cup. 3.05 BIG MOJO can follow up last year's Glorious Goodwood win in the King George Qatar Stakes. Mick Appleby's flyer ran a cracker at Newmarket last time and looks up to this level. Aussie Asfoora will show her true colours here after a poor Ascot run, while She's Quality lives up to her name. Here's my guide to the field, where I rate them one (worst) to five (best): ASFOORA 4 FOOR star. Aussie raider won the King Charles III at Royal Ascot last year was just denied in this. Had excuses this year and could bounce back. BIG MOJO 5 BIG chance. Won Molecomb here last year and has progressed at three. Unlucky in the Commonwealth Cup and ran a huge race in the July Cup. Strong claims back at 5f. CELANDINE 2 HARD Cel. Chased home Big Mojo in last year's Molecomb and beat Time For Sandals over 6f at York. Needs to prove she enjoys 5f as much. CLARENDON HOUSE 1 DON for. Has run well over this C&D before but was poor at Epsom last time and needs more at this level. FROST AT DAWN 3 HOT Frost. Won 6f Listed race earlier this season and showed real speed when second in the King Charles III at Royal Ascot. Can go close again. JM JUNGLE 2 JUNGLE fever. Won over C&D at this meeting in 2023 and landed the Epsom Dash in June. Ran well in Listed last time but not up to this. KERDOS 3 TAKE Ker. Fifth in this race last year and good run in the King Charles III. Likes tacky ground and cheekpieces may help. KHAADEM 3 KHA motors. Won this in 2022 and has landed two Group 1s. He's unbeaten in two runs here and looks a big place price. MANACCAN 1 DANGER Man. Solid Listed performer over this trip but has been struggling for a while. NIGHT RAIDER 3 NIGHT shifts. Unbeaten in four AW starts including a Listed 6f at Newcastle. Turf form not as hot but it's early days. SHE'S QUALITY 4 QUALITY pays. Ran a stormer when second in a hot Group 2 at Haydock in May. Sandown didn't suit last time and this test looks much more suitable. SPARTAN ARROW 2 BLUNT arrow. Has improved since sporting cheekpieces and took a French Listed prize latest. Goes well here and track/trip suits but this is much tougher opposition. TIME FOR SANDALS 3 TIME trial. Surprise winner of the Commonwealth Cup over 6f at Ascot. Could improve again but drop in trip an unknown. TOWN AND COUNTRY 1 TOWN and out. Few miles on the clock and is a Listed winner over this trip. Progressive but needs a lot more in this company. 3.45 SOCIALITE can get the party started. Charlie Hills' four-year-old can take this prize with a bold front-running show. He quickened smartly to win at Windsor on handicap debut, shaping as though this extra furlong would suit. Lightly raced, progressive and effective on any ground, he could prove tough to pass from a handy draw. Liberty Lane is the main danger, with a soft-ground Cambridgeshire win and a Listed success here this year marking him out as a serious player. Haunted Dream won this race last year and had excuses at Royal Ascot. He's a big threat back at this track. Godwinson is thriving after wins in the Lincoln and at Newcastle. He'll be right there if liking this longer trip. Fox Legacy is flying and isn't written off provided the rain stays away.
