
Gemini update adds private Temporary Chats and smarter personalization
The new "Personal context" setting allows Gemini to remember key details from your past conversations and use them to offer more relevant suggestions. Over time, this can make exchanges feel more natural and tailored.

For example, if you have talked about your favorite comic book characters, Gemini might suggest birthday party ideas based on them. If you have asked for book recommendations before, it could point you toward similar titles. And if you have discussed making videos about Japanese culture, it might suggest related topics the next time you ask for ideas.
This setting is turned on by default for users on the 2.5 Pro model in select countries, with plans to expand to more models and regions soon. However, you can turn it off at any time in the app's settings under "Personal context."
The update also adds "Temporary Chat," which lets you start one-off conversations that do not affect your future results and are not saved in Gemini Apps Activity. These chats are kept for up to 72 hours so Gemini can reply and process any feedback, but they are not used to train Google's AI models.

This feature is useful for discussing private topics or brainstorming ideas outside your usual interests without leaving a trace in your chat history.
Google is renaming the "Gemini Apps Activity" setting to "Keep Activity." When this is on, a sample of your future uploads, such as files or photos, may be used to improve Google services. If you prefer, you can turn it off or use Temporary Chat.

Another control added earlier this month lets you choose whether audio, video, and screens shared with Gemini are used to improve services. This is off by default but can be switched on.
These updates bring Gemini in line with competing AI assistants like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, which also offer personalization and history-free chat modes. Google's version makes these tools easy to toggle on and off, which could appeal to mobile users who want quick control.
Gemini's new features could make it feel more like a personal assistant that learns your preferences, while Temporary Chat gives privacy-minded users a way to keep certain conversations off the record. Google has been busy, busy, busy giving its Android apps Material 3 Expressive makeovers. I have to say that, for the most part, these makeovers have been well changes made to the UIs of these apps have made them easier to use, more useful, and in many cases, the Dynamic Color feature brings in the main color theme from your phone's wallpaper improving the look of the app. The Google Contacts app is now getting its makeover. Previously, there was no clear-cut separation between the names of the contacts. Each individual contact also gets a card with a giant avatar and the name of the contact underneath. Directly below the contact's name are four options: The big change to this card with the makeover is that the names of these four actions are now placed inside a pill-shaped field. Previously, the four actions were placed inside of a simple circle. The new look has been found on version 4.6.1.x of the Google Contacts app. To see which version of the app is running on your Android phone, tap on Settings > Apps > See all xxx apps . China introduces its first domestically made e-beam lithography machine
We've often said that the inability of Chinese foundries and tech manufacturers to obtain Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines is the big reason why China is so far behind in the chips race. Thanks to U.S. and Dutch officials, the one company that makes advanced lithography gear, Dutch firm ASML, cannot ship the latest EUV lithography equipment to China. However, less advanced Deep Ultraviolet (DUV) lithography machines, using older technology, can still be shipped to China. This is important because EUV machines are needed to manufacture chips under 7nm. Foundries like TSMC and Samsung Foundry will be mass producing chips using their 2nm process nodes this year. Lower process node numbers mean that the transistors used are smaller, allowing more to fit into a small space inside a chip. This number is called the Transistor Density and is usually shown as millions or billions of transistors per square millimeter. The higher the transistor density, the more powerful and energy-efficient a chip is. The lithography machine is used to transfer circuitry patterns onto the silicon wafers that serve as the foundation of the chips manufactured by foundries. Deep Ultraviolet (DUV) light has a wavelength of 193 nanometers. EUV, however, uses light with a wavelength of just 13.5 nanometers, which is about 14 times shorter. This shorter wavelength allows EUVs to etch the fine patterns needed for today's intricate chip designs. -Hangzhou Daily But the Chinese have built their first e-beam lithography machine, which they have titled Xizhi. It was created at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou and uses focused electron beams to etch the circuitry patterns on the silicon wafers. The downside is that e-beam lithography cannot produce chips at a large scale like DUV and EUV machines can. But for China, it's any port in a storm when it comes to lithography, and the e-beam lithography works great during the testing phase of production. An ASML built Extreme Ultraviolet lithography machine. | Image credit-ASML A local newspaper, Hangzhou Daily , said on Thursday, "Due to export controls, such equipment has long been out of reach for leading domestic research institutions, including the University of Science and Technology of China and Zhejiang Lab. The delivery of Xizhi is expected to help break this impasse." Xizhi can etch circuit lines as narrow as 8 nm, with a positioning accuracy of 0.6nm. This meets international standards. Discussions with Chinese companies and research institutes interested in Xizhi have begun. The domestically produced e-beam lithography machine is cheaper than similar devices imported into China. This is just the beginning of China's attempt to bypass U.S. restrictions by producing its own chipmaking equipment. There are reports that Huawei has been working on building its own EUV machine. Reportedly, Huawei has been testing a trial EUV machine at its factory in Dongguan. Supposedly, Huawei will aim for trial production later this year with mass production expected to take place in 2026. Should Huawei be able to create an EUV machine, it would be a big deal for China in general and Huawei in particular. It could allow Huawei and China's largest foundry, SMIC, to produce cutting-edge chips that might be able to compete with the silicon designed by U.S. chip design heavyweights like Apple, Qualcomm, and Nvidia. Before the U.S. implemented the sanctions preventing Huawei from obtaining cutting-edge chips, the Chinese manufacturer's HiSillicon chip design unit was TSMC's second-largest customer after Apple. At that time, HiSilicon and thus Huawei had access to TSMC's most cutting-edge process nodes. In fact, the last chip TSMC produced for HiSilicon before U.S. sanctions kicked in was the Kirin 9000 AP. Built using TSMC's 5nm process node, this was the SoC used to power the Huawei Mate 40 series in 2020. After the sanctions went into effect, Qualcomm was given a license from the U.S. Commerce Department allowing it to ship 4G Snapdragon chips to Huawei. In 2023, Huawei stunned the industry by releasing the Mate 60 series powered by the Kirin 9000S. Produced by SMIC, the SoC was built using the foundry's 7nm process node and brought 5G support back to Huawei's flagship phones. vivo T4 Pro teaser campaign starts with a telephoto camera revelation
Vlad, 15 August 2025 vivo is getting ready to launch the T4 Pro in India. While the company isn't yet ready to reveal when the phone will make its debut, it has already started teasing it through Flipkart, which of course tells us where it will be sold. The T4 Pro will have a "flagship level" periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, as well as many AI features. The design of the camera island seems to resemble the V60 and X200 FE, thus clearly positioning the T4 Pro as a recent addition to the roster. vivo T4 Pro teaser images According to a recent rumor, the T4 Pro uses Sony's IMX882 sensor for its periscope telephoto camera, just like the aforementioned V60 and X200 FE, so the resemblance between the three is more than just skin-deep. The T4 Pro is allegedly 7.53mm thin, and has a quad-curved screen. It will apparently be available in Blaze Gold and Nitro Blue. It's powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC, and will feature a big battery despite its slim profile. Via
