This partnership will allow researchers and postgraduate students to engage in joint sports science studies while utilising advanced research facilities. The MoU also covers scientific workshops, seminars, and practical training in areas such as sports nutrition, physical assessments, rehabilitation, and psychological preparation for athletes.
Leaders highlight the significance of research
Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud emphasised that investing in scientific research is essential for nurturing local talent effectively, aligning with the vision of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi to elevate women's sports through evidence-based development. She also pointed out that the University of Sharjah's research expertise makes it an ideal partner for this initiative.
Prof. Al Naimiy reaffirmed the university's commitment to providing research support, including access to specialised centres, academic publications, and scientific resources. He highlighted the university's global standing in research excellence and its contributions across various disciplines.
Dr. Mokhtar Chtara, Director of the Scientific Research and Sports Performance Development Centre at SWS, described the agreement as a major step in fostering innovation and applying data-driven strategies to improve sports performance. He stressed that precise measurements and scientific methods will play a key role in advancing athletic training.
Dr. Amina Al Marzouqi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Sharjah, noted the importance of developing locally relevant fitness benchmarks, stating that the collaboration will help researchers tailor health and performance assessments to better reflect the needs of Emirati athletes.
A long-term commitment to sports development
This two-year renewable agreement aims to drive innovation in sports science, offer professional training, and contribute to the ongoing growth of women's sports in Sharjah. It builds upon previous collaborations between SWS and the university, including their joint efforts in hosting the "Shine: Women's Sports in Sharjah – From Hobby to Professionalism" conference.

Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre recalls Ruler's doctorate from HYU
The university, one of South Korea's oldest academic institutions, conferred the degree in recognition of the Sharjah ruler's contributions to political and economic development. During the ceremony held in Seoul, His Highness emphasised the importance of education and research in advancing societies. His Highness highlighted Sharjah's vision for knowledge and scientific advancement. He referenced the emirate's leading academic institutions, including the University of Sharjah (UOS) and the American University of Sharjah (AUS), and their comprehensive offerings across diverse fields. 'Sharjah is a lively emirate that brings the East and West together, while holding on to the values and traditions of its people,' he said. Sharjah's ruler further stressed the need to expand the industrial and service sectors through international collaboration.
