'Holiday from hell' as Scots family given 'mouldy caravan with hole in it'
A Scots dad is fuming after his family had the "holiday from hell" when they were given a caravan with a 'hole in it' and mould on the outside.
James Duffy from Niddrie, Edinburgh, booked the four-night stay at Eyemouth Holiday Park, in the Scottish Borders, at the start of June and said he was shocked by the state of the caravan his family were given upon arrival.
The 42-year-old took his partner Rachelle, their five-year-old daughter, his mum and her partner to the seaside spot. However, both James's mum, who has COPD, and his daughter fell ill after the first night.
James also said he was forced to pay for use of the nearby pool which is advertised as being included in the price online.
Overall, the dad claimed what was meant to be a rare holiday for his family ended up being more stressful than staying at home as he was left "gutted" by the experience and vowed never to return.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, James said: "I'll not go to any of their resorts after this. There was meant to be nightly entertainment and we only got to do two of the activities we booked.
"We got there in the afternoon but it wasn't until around 10pm I noticed the state of the caravan. I just saw a big hole in the back and thought 'this is ridiculous '.
"There was tape over the hole and it was peeling off the caravan. From the inside you can see the light coming in from the inside.
"My mum was sitting there wheezing as she has COPD and had to sleep in that caravan then felt awful the next day. I obviously can't prove the state of the caravan had anything to do with it but it's quite a coincidence.
"Nobody slept in that room with the hole. My partner and I just pulled out the couch. It was mega uncomfortable but I didn't want anyone to sleep in that room.
"We were looking forward to this for a while as we don't have the money to go abroad so it was just a little break for me and the family. The least we expected was to enjoy it."
After raising a complaint with staff at the Parkdean Resort, James and his family were given an alternative caravan the following day.
When Edinburgh Live approached Parkdean Resorts for comment, they claimed James failed to show his pass for the swimming pool and the charge has since been refunded due to the error.
James also paid for an activity day pass for £21 and claims he was told the park don't offer certain activities as his daughter was left with just two to take part in across the four days.
"There was supposed to be a free bingo session during the day for folk who couldn't make it at night and they couldn't even manage that," James added.
"My daughter really wanted a swim so my partner took her and we were told if we showed our passes we'd get free access. We were to go within a certain time and they said we had to pay £15.50 for 45 minutes.
"I don't know how they can get away with it and offering a family of five a mouldy caravan like that."

A spokesperson for Eyemouth Holiday Park has since apologised for the family's experience and offered £100 as a gesture of goodwill, which was unaccepted, although James maintains he still isn't happy.
A spokesperson for Eyemouth Holiday Park said: 'We have high standards for hygiene and cleanliness at our parks. As soon as we were made aware of this isolated issue, we moved the family to alternative accommodation.
"We have apologised to Mr Duffy for his experience and offered a gesture of goodwill, which was accepted.
'Park guests receive complimentary access to the local swimming pool. As Mr Duffy was charged in error, we have issued a full refund for the funds he spent on pool access.'

Donald Trump's Air Force One makes guest appearance in couple's wedding photoshoot
The US President made an appearance in the couple's photographs as his impressive jet Air Force One flew over their heads. This is the moment Donald Trump featured in a Scots couple's pre-wedding photo shoot. The US President made an appearance in practice snaps for a bride-and-groom-to-be as his impressive jet Air Force One flew over their heads. The iconic plane carrying the world leader was coming into land at Prestwick Airport on Friday. Thousands had gathered to watch the historic moment as the president arrived for a whistle-stop five-day visit to Scotland to visit his two golf resorts. And as the mega Boeing-747 made its final approach it was captured at nearby Enterkine Country House Hotel by the couple's wedding photographer, who caught stunning images. Koren McGreever, 29, and future-husband, Aaron Davis, 32, were down on ground level posing amongst scenic fields when they heard the huge jet fly over. They quickly rushed to get a perfect spot with wedding snapper Gavin Macqueen snapping the world's most famous aircraft above them. Koren, who lives with Aaron in Stirling, told the Record: 'We're not getting married until next July but we wanted to do a practice shoot this summer to try and replicate the same lighting and background. 'We never expected that background to include the President of the United States. 'We never actually realised he was arriving that day until we heard this loud plane over our heads. I looked up and it was the biggest jet I've ever seen. 'We only had a few seconds to get a shot with it in, the photographer was scrambling about trying to get it. 'We ran to another spot in the middle of a barely field and Gavin managed to get this incredible pic with Air Force One up above us. 'The end result is amazing, it is definitely getting framed.' The couple say they have had a great response to the pictures which was shared on social media by Gavin. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! 'Our friends and family have found it hilarious, some of them have asked if he's going to be getting an invite to the wedding. 'Another friend shared a picture of us and put the caption 'Love Trumps All', which we absolutely loved.' Glasgow photographer Gavin Macqueen admitted the appearance of President Trump's plane caught him by surprise. He said: 'I drove round from Prestwick to Enterkine House and the airport perimeters were mobbed with people and the police. 'I had a feeling I was going to see Air Force One but I hadn't anticipated that it would be during the shoot. I thought it would be on the drive back to Prestwick where I was staying for the night. It was surreal how it happened. 'We heard the low drone of the plane before we saw it. We were right on the flight path. And then I got the pictures. It all happened so fast - instinct took over.' Trump touched down last Friday at the Ayrshire travel hub before heading along to his golf resort in Turnberry where he spent a few days. He then travelled to his Meine Estate golf course in Aberdeenshire where he had dinner with First Minister John Swinney and held crunch talks with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Trump's presence in Scotland was met with protests in both Ayrshire and Aberdeenshire.

Donald Trump calls Scotland a nation of 'great fighters'
His mother, Mary MacLeod, was from Tong on the Isle of Lewis and Mr Trump has said he feels a deep connection to the country. In a new podcast interview he praised the Scots as "great fighters", admitted he has never had black pudding, and opined that there are no subways in Scotland. Read More: President Trump was asked on Pod Force One if he felt Scottish, replying: "Well, I've been here and we have incredible investments in Aberdeen. "Aberdeen is actually the oil capital of Europe, they should really let that go to town instead of doing all this other nonsense because they have tremendous oil reserves in Aberdeen. "Turnberry is long-term, it's just this incredible place. In Aberdeen I built something that's really special, the most beautiful land you've ever seen. "My mother was born in Scotland, she loved Scotland. She was a big fan of the Queen, I have to tell you. Any time the Queen was on television my mother liked watching, she said 'oh the Queen is on'. So, you know, she was a fan. A lot of people are, and a lot of people probably aren't in terms of the monarchy but a lot of people are." Mr Trump's mother was from Lewis in the Hebrides, and he was asked about the famous black pudding from Stornoway. The President has visited his mother's birth place only once in his adult life, spending around an hour there. He replied: "I heard about it, I don't know about black pudding but it's one of the most beautiful landscapes you've ever seen, it's seriously Scottish. "The Isle of Lewis, I looked at a map, it's interesting, to get there it's... it's just... it's in a remote section. "When she came to New York she was a young girl of about 18 years old and she hadn't seen the world, she met my father and he was, you know, a successful guy. He was a young guy but he was a successful guy, he was building houses and she really was beautiful, she really was beautiful, she was a beautiful woman. "He (Fred Trump) came home that night and said to my grandmother, who was a fantastic person, my father's mother, 'I just met my wife'. He was about 32, so he was a little older, she said 'you know, when are you going to get married?'. "But he was a great guy, but he immediately knew. "The Scottish people are really amazing and they're great fighters too, that's why England sort of never... Braveheart, one of the great movies of all time, England had a hard time with Scotland they just couldn't quite tame them. "They're great people, no crime, you don't have crime, you don't have muggings, you don't have people getting hit over the head when they're not looking with a baseball bat. They're not pushed into a subway if they had them, which they don't. You wouldn't have them pushed into a subway." Glasgow is the only city in Scotland which has a subway system.
