'Bengaluru Dirty & Unsafe, Here Only For...': Redditor Who Moved From Noida Sparks Debate

A 26-year-old from Noida shared his disappointing experience of living in Bengaluru on Reddit, criticising high costs, poor services, inauthentic culture, and safety issues
Bengaluru might be the dream city for many tech aspirants, but for a 26-year-old who moved there from Noida, the reality has turned out to be a daily disappointment.
In a detailed post now gaining traction on Reddit, the young professional didn't hold back his frustrations after spending a year in the so-called Silicon Valley. From spiraling costs and poor public services to what he called an 'extremely fake and shallow" lifestyle, his experience sharply contrasts with the image the city often enjoys in popular imagination.
'I've lived in Noida for 26 years," he began, adding that ever since he moved to Bengaluru for work, he felt like going back every single day but he can't 'because of the pay".
The man said he initially arrived with high hopes, expecting the energy and opportunities the city is known for. But instead, he encountered a culture he found inauthentic. 'People only care about reel life and not real life. Everything is a facade here. Everybody wants to show off here. People buy expensive fancy dogs to show off, expensive fancy clothes to show off, cars, go to overpriced shit restaurants etc," he wrote.
Transport added another layer of frustration. He described catching an auto as a miracle and claimed drivers often ask Rs 300 for barely 2 kilometres. Bengaluru, according to him, is a place where 'cab is cheaper than an auto". The man also raised concerns over the city's cleanliness, describing garbage piles every few hundred meters and a constant foul smell in many neighbourhoods.
While some older areas were cleaner, he pointed out that most offices, and people, are now located in parts of the city where sanitation seems neglected.
On the matter of safety, he challenged the assumption that Bengaluru is among India's safer metros. 'People hate on Delhi saying everybody is creepy there, people stare in Delhi. It's the same in blr lol. I would say people are creepier here lmao. Bangalore is not safer in any way. Those who say bangalore is safe are coping hard," he wrote, adding that he's had several uncomfortable interactions that made him feel unsafe.
The traffic, too, lived up to its dreadful reputation. 'The roads and traffic lol. I won't even start because you guys must've already heard how bad it is, and it's even worse in reality," he said.
There was one aspect of Bengaluru the man did appreciate – the weather. 'The only good thing about BLR is the weather. Agreed, it is amazing! I love it, it's perfect," he wrote in the post. But even that, he felt, wasn't enough to justify long-term living. 'You can come here live for a couple of years but beyond that I doubt you would be happy," he said.
The Reddit post has drawn a wide range of responses. Some users echoed his sentiments, sharing similar grievances about the city's infrastructure, cost of living, and transport issues. Others came to Bengaluru's defence, pointing to its job market, cosmopolitan vibe, and weather as unmatched in the country.
Many agreed on one point: no city is perfect, and personal experience often depends on perspective.

"Just saw a bunch of rats eating at 7/11 store in Seawoods," the user captioned the video, adding, "I am absolutely disgusted. My friend and I were about to get ice cream when I saw this. A third user commented, "Omg. Thank you for sharing this. I'll never visit that outlet again. You should also upload that video to Google Maps so more people can see it.
