Tej terms Mahua battle a referendum on Lalu

Time of India31-07-2025
Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad's elder son,
, on Thursday said a win for him in the upcoming assembly elections from Mahua would symbolise a victory for his father Lalu Prasad.
"If the people of Mahua ensure my victory, then you people are working to make Lalu ji win," said Tej Pratap, the current MLA from Hasanpur, during his visit to Mahua, the seat from which he has announced his candidature.

Despite being expelled from the RJD for six years and "disowned" by his father, Tej Pratap has launched his own political platform, 'Team Tej Pratap'. He has also announced plans to field candidates in several other constituencies across the state.
Challenging his younger brother Tejashwi Prasad Yadav — leader of the opposition and widely seen as the face of the opposition in Bihar — Tej drew an analogy from the Mahabharat.
"If the opposition's face in Bihar is called 'Arjun', then he should play the flute as well. Then it will be clear who is Arjun and who is Krishna," he said, alluding to his own image as a devotee of Lord Krishna and his penchant for playing the flute.
Tej had earlier represented Mahua before contesting from Hasanpur in the 2020 assembly election. He urged voters to give him another opportunity, reminding them of his contributions during his previous tenure.
"It was Tej Pratap who brought a medical college to Mahua. If there is a problem with electricity, then you make me win. I will work to make electricity free," he said.
Taking aim at the current Mahua MLA, Mukesh Roshan, Tej called him an "imposter" (bahurupiya) and claimed that Mahua had progressed significantly since the establishment of the medical college. "The land here has become expensive. Work is done step by step. Nothing is done in haste," he said.
"Whenever I come to Mahua, the impostor MLA here starts crying," he added.

Notably, Yadav, the RJD leader, and the Congress had targeted the BJP leader over his name appearing at two different places in Bihar in the draft electoral rolls Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, who has been served with a notice by the Election Commission for allegedly possessing two voter ID cards, on Monday asserted that he respects constitutional bodies and will respond to the poll panel's queries. The senior BJP leader, who has been left with egg on his face, was replying to questions from journalists here, a day after the Election Commission notice was served to him in the backdrop of the anomaly being highlighted by the opposition. Sinha said, "I respect the country's Constitution and all constitutional bodies. I am not like Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav." Notably, Yadav, the RJD leader, and the Congress had targeted the BJP leader over his name appearing at two different places in Bihar in the draft electoral rolls published as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The BJP leader had clarified before the media that he had been registered as a voter of Bankipur constituency in Patna, and last year, he applied for registration in Lakhisarai, his assembly segment, and requested the authorities to strike off his name in the state capital. But he claimed that the same could not be done. However, the EC took grave note of the matter and slapped him with a notice commanding him to reply by August 14.
