The Beatles Fans Send Ringo Starr A Message Of 'Peace And Love' On His 85th Birthday

Yahoo5 days ago
School children from Ringo Starr's alma mater joined with The Beatles fans to mark the drummer's 85th birthday by sending him a message of 'peace and love' from The Beatles Story at Liverpool's Royal Albert Dock on Monday.
Each year on his birthday since 2008, Ringo invites people everywhere to pause at 12 noon local time to say, think, or post "Peace and Love" as a collective moment of global unity.
Fans and visitors who took part in this uplifting initiative filmed a special "Peace and Love" moment, which has been shared by Ringo himself on his official Facebook page as part of the international celebration - putting Liverpool's message of peace in the spotlight alongside other messages from all around the globe.
Mary Chadwick, General Manager of The Beatles Story, said: "It is an honour for us that The Beatles Story is trusted to carry the torch for Liverpool's contribution to Ringo's incredible Peace and Love initiative, and we're so happy it is becoming a tradition for locals and fans. We were so warmed by the enthusiastic response from the pupils who joined us from Ringo's primary school St Silas - proving that Beatlemania is still alive in our community."
In honour of Ringo's milestone birthday and lifelong advocacy for peace, The Beatles Story also unveiled the UK's first and only Ringo Starr Peace and Love Sculpture. The sculpture, created using an original casting of Ringo's right hand, symbolically and quite literally shows that Ringo had a hand in spreading peace. Each piece is handcrafted by seasoned artisans, blending artistic craftsmanship with heartfelt meaning to create a lasting emblem of positivity.
This limited-edition sculpture is part of an exclusive initiative by the Ringo Starr organisation, with a select number made available to institutions and cultural spaces around the world.
The statue, which was on display outside The Beatles Story during the Peace and Love event earlier today, has now been moved to its new home within the museum itself.

Shark Chomps Pelican in Florida, Swimmers Unfazed (Video)

Are Floridians numb to sharks? Sure seems like it, as recent footage showing a large shark just a few feet from shore, rampaging in the water, munching a pelican, and swimmers a mere few feet away…just standing there nonchalantly, and watching it all go down. Reporting on the video, awesomely-named Louisiana country music station 97.3 'The Dawg,' described: 'A video on social media shows a small crowd of beachgoers standing in the water as a large bull shark reportedly eats a pelican. You can see some people rush out of the water as the shark approaches the shore, but two women closest to the shark were undeterred by this potential threat.' Yeah, those two women seem totally unfazed; watch below. The footage was posted on June 20th on a Facebook page called 'All Things Navarre Beach & Pensacola Beach Official,' with the caption: 'Footage captured of a shark taking down a pelican yesterday at Pensacola Beach! Be careful & alert.'And while the action is most obviously happening between the bull shark and the bird, most people couldn't get past the fact that these two women just stood there, very close, and watched as the vicious attack went down. One commenter wrote: 'Probably should get all the way out of the water. These are the ones you can't feel sorry for if something were to happen. I promise that shark is quicker in that water than anyone in the picture. Best of luck have fun.' In other Florida shark news, at the same spot in Pensacola, an angler hooked an 11-foot, 1,000-pound tiger shark, then posed with it for this insane photo: And before that, avid surfer Matt Bender was attacked by a shark while surfing at New Smyrna Beach – aka the 'shark bite capital of the world' – getting his arm totally shredded in the process. And yet, he vowed to paddle back out once he's healed up. Yep, safe to say, Floridians are thoroughly desensitized to shark Chomps Pelican in Florida, Swimmers Unfazed (Video) first appeared on Surfer on Jul 10, 2025

$6 and 5 minutes at slot machine lead gambler to big prize in CA. ‘What luck!'

A lucky gambler took home a 'beastly' win after playing a slot machine at a Southern California casino. The gambler was betting on a KONG Skull Island slot machine, 'a 3 x 3 reel array game,' at Pechanga Resort Casino, the Temecula casino said in a July 9 Facebook post. 'In just 5 minutes,' the man hit a jackpot of $675,069.55 on a $6 bet, the casino said. Users on Facebook were quick to congratulate the winner. 'No way,' one Facebook user commented. 'What luck!' 'Oh my gosh, I'd faint,' another user wrote. Pechanga Resort Casino, about a 90-mile drive southeast from Los Angeles, 'is one of the largest casino resorts' in the country, according to the resort's website. The casino features more than 200,000 square feet of gaming space, which includes slots machines, video poker machines and table games.

The new movie about OpenAI's Sam Altman sounds a lot like 'The Social Network.' Should he care?

" The Social Network" was a surprising hit movie in 2010. How would you feel about a new version — except this time it's about AI instead of social networking, and Sam Altman is the villain, instead of Mark Zuckerberg? You may find out next year, when "Artificial," a $40 million Amazon-funded production about OpenAI, is supposed to debut. Puck's Matt Belloni has gotten a look at the script, and it seems to have lots of parallels with the 15-year-old Facebook movie. Just like "The Social Network," it's about drama between the company's founders — specifically, the weird story where OpenAI's board fired Altman in the fall of 2023, only to see him return a few days later, stronger than ever. And just like "The Social Network," "Artificial" features actor Andrew Garfield — except this time around, he plays the scheming CEO (Altman) instead of the plucky cofounder who gets outflanked (in this version of the story, that would be OpenAI cofounder Ilya Sutskever). Belloni notes that it's a bit surprising that Amazon has greenlit this one, given the fact that it could anger rich and powerful people. But he also says that one of those people — Altman — ought to be concerned about how he's portrayed in the movie. After all, he says, "The Social Network," which is a fictional story loosely based on some facts, " did damage Zuckerberg and Facebook in the court of public and political opinion." And I definitely remember how sensitive Facebook execs were about the movie at the time, with what seemed like good reason: "The Social Network" portrays Zuckerberg as a manipulative, lonely liar. "It's the only version of Mark Zuckerberg that most people are going to know about, and it's a terribly unflattering one," I wrote after seeing the movie back in 2010, suggesting that it was rough enough to make me feel sorry for the billionaire. Zuckerberg initially complained about the movie himself, arguing that it got both facts and the big picture wrong. But within a few months, after the movie got critical acclaim and a decent reception at the box office, Zuckerberg formally embraced his portrayal by appearing on "Saturday Night Live" alongside Jesse Eisenberg, who portrayed fictional Zuckerberg. And as I recall, for many years, the fictional Zuckerberg became an odd hero to a certain class of tech and business folks: Yes, he's a flawed guy, but he's a flawed guy who dropped out of college to build a world-changing business. How cool is that? More important: While Zuckerberg is indeed very unpopular today — a staggering two-thirds of Americans have a negative view of him, per Pew Research — I don't think that has much to do with a 2010 movie. Instead, I'd peg Americans' distaste for Zuckerberg on the 2016 election and its aftermath. As you'll recall, liberals and democrats blamed Facebook for Donald Trump's victory (an argument that looks even more misplaced after Trump won again last year); and then, as Facebook promised to crack down on misinformation on the platform in response, conservatives and Republicans said Zuckerberg was censoring them. So now people across the political spectrum dislike him. Will Sam Altman care about any of this? Hard to say. Altman certainly isn't as well-known as Zuckerberg, for now (though he is not camera-shy — see that photo of him above, where he's holding forth for reporters at the annual Sun Valley " summer camp for billionaires" this week). He is, however, very attuned to power. For years, Altman was a public opponent of Donald Trump. He "represents an unprecedented threat to America," Altman wrote in 2016. But since last fall's election, Altman scrambled to ally himself with the president, jostling for a place alongside other tech titans. "I think he will be incredible for the country in many ways!" he wrote in January, after securing a place for his company in a splashy infrastructure deal Trump touted. So yes, maybe "Artificial" will become Altman's "Social Network," and become his de facto origin story for most people. But for now, I think Altman is most concerned about the way one particular American thinks about him.
