New 3G all-weather pitch opens in Caerphilly borough town
A new 3G all-weather pitch has officially opened in Risca.
Located at Risca School and Leisure Centre, the facility will serve both Risca Community Comprehensive School students during the day and the wider community in the evenings and on weekends.

Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, said: "This development reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, accessible facilities that support both education and lifelong participation in sport.
"The 3G pitch enhances our ability to deliver the aims of the sport and active recreation strategy, ensuring that more people can enjoy the benefits of physical activity close to home."
The floodlit pitch replaces the previous AstroTurf surface and is designed to accommodate both football and rugby.
Its durable artificial surface allows for year-round use by schools, clubs, and community groups.

The project supports Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019–2029 and forms part of the authority's wider Place Shaping programme.
Councillor Carol Andrews, cabinet member for education and communities, said: "This facility is an excellent example of how we can maximise the use of school sites for the benefit of both learners and the wider community.
"It is a clear demonstration of our Place Shaping principles in action, creating shared spaces that improve education, health, and community wellbeing."
The pitch was funded through the Welsh Government's Community Focused Schools capital grant programme.

It is part of a broader investment in modern, accessible sports infrastructure across the borough.
The 3G surface is designed to handle frequent use and provide a safe environment for a range of sports and activities.
Bookings for the facility are now being taken in line with the council's pitch allocation policy.

Snoop Dogg and Modric put Swansea 'in different league'
Chief executive Tom Gorringe says Swansea City are anticipating bigger sponsorship deals thanks to the involvement of Luka Modric and Snoop Dogg. Former Balon d'Or winner Modric became an investor and co-owner at Swansea in April, with rapper Snoop Dogg following suit last month. Gorringe says the arrival of two such high-profile figures has made Swansea "interesting and exciting to people outside the city". "Luka and Snoop have brought a whole load of additional attention to the football club and that provides a huge amount of opportunity," Gorringe said at a fans' forum held at the Stadium on Wednesday. "I think we have done a really good job of maximising what we can do on a local basis but now the parameters have moved. "It puts us in front of different companies, different brands, and allows us to tell an authentic story to people we wouldn't have been able to get in front of before. "We have already had discussions with brands about significant deals which would eclipse anything we have done in the past." Gorringe said Modric and Snoop Dogg will not have specific roles at Swansea, but that both are "really keen to do whatever they can to help". He said both new faces will visit Wales at some point in 2025-26 to watch Alan Sheehan's side in Championship action. "They have both come in without ego, without expectation and just with the best faith to do whatever they can to make things better," Gorringe said. "They are both contactable all the time and they want to find a way that can improve us as a football club. "It puts us in a different league in terms of some of the things that we are able to do." Wrexham to shatter transfer record for Broadhead
Wrexham are close to signing Wales international Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town in a deal which could eventually be worth £10m. While the initial fee is likely to be some way short of that figure, Broadhead's arrival will shatter Wrexham's current transfer record. The versatile forward, 27, is in the final year of his contract at Portman Road. Wrexham have broken their transfer record on numerous occasions since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took control of the club in 2021. The current high mark is believed to be in excess of £3m, which Wrexham paid to sign midfielder Lewis O'Brien from Nottingham Forest last month. Former Everton youngster Broadhead will be Wrexham's ninth signing since they were promoted from League One last season.
