Oklahoma transfer QB commit signs with Northwestern
According to a report from 247Sports' Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer, Norman native Gavin Frakes, who committed to Oklahoma in the spring portal window, has instead signed with Northwestern. Frakes initially committed to Oklahoma after spending time with New Mexico State and then Virginia. The Sooners' quarterback spot was solidified in the offseason with the additions of John Mateer, Jett Niu, and Whitt Newbauer to go along with the return of Michael Hawkins Jr.
The Sooners' quarterback depth is in a good spot, a year after they were young at the position in 2024. Oklahoma has three players on the roster in Mateer, Hawkins, and Newbauer who have started games at the collegiate level. This time last year, only Arnold had a start under his belt, and that came in the Alamo Bowl loss to Arizona.
Oklahoma is deeper and better at quarterback heading into Ben Arbuckle's first year as the offensive coordinator of the Sooners.

See Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman wearing ‘The Shirt' during Wednesday's practice
Loyal to Notre Dame ☘️#GoIrish☘️ Notre Dame head football coach Marcus Freeman is a man of the people, and he showed that during Wednesday's practice. Entering his fourth-year at the helm of the Irish program, the expectations are extremely high for the 39-year old, but he's having fun with it. In a post shared by the official Notre Dame football social media account, you see Freeman wearing this year's version of 'The Shirt.' One of the fans biggest complains over during his tenure has been the inability to purchase some of the Under Armour gear that Freeman wears. Luckily, this time, it's fairly easy to be matching with Notre Dame's head coach. The great part about this is that it shows once again that Freeman understands the culture surrounding the football program. While he didn't play for the Irish, he's fully engrained in the Notre Dame football family. Oklahoma among biggest US LBM Coaches Poll snubs
The Oklahoma Sooners ranked just outside of the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll on Monday, landing as the top vote getter among the others receiving votes. It's not unreasonable to leave OU outside of the top 25 based on what happened in 2024, but if you're projecting into 2025, it's not a stretch to consider the Sooners one of the 25 best teams in college football. In reaction to the US LBM Coaches Poll that will be released each week during the season, Eddie Timanus of USA TODAY Sports believes the Sooners were one of the biggest snubs from the preseason poll. Most of the issues in Norman for the last couple of seasons have been on the offensive side of the ball, so Oklahoma's long-term staying power this season will largely hinge on the performance of transfer quarterback John Mateer. - Timanus, USA TODAY Sports Oklahoma has revamped the offensive side of the football to help a defense that made significant improvements last year. The additions of John Mateer and Jaydn Ott, combined with a bounce-back season from the Sooners' offensive line, should lead to a better result on the field. Oklahoma will have its first opportunity to prove they belong in week two of the season when the Sooners welcome the Michigan Wolverines to town. Michigan is one of seven ranked teams the Sooners will face this season. If Oklahoma can navigate the schedule to a nine or 10-win season, OU will have a strong case for an at-large playoff berth. Is a former 5-star linebacker Jaylen Sneed starting to emerge as a starter for Notre Dame?
One of the biggest questions this fall for Notre Dame football is who will replace the departure of the heart and soul of the Irish defense, linebacker Jack Kiser. Drayk Bowen returns with plenty of hype, so there is some stability to the position, and through four fall practices, it looks like a former 5-star is starting to emerge as the other starter. In a post shared by On3's Jack Soble on Wednesday afternoon, Jaylen Sneed has been taking the majority of reps with the first-team early in camp. Coming out of high school in South Carolina, Sneed was ranked as the No. 34 overall prospect in the 2022 class according to the 247Sports Composite. He played sparingly during his first two seasons on campus, but finally got an opportunity for extended playing time last fall, as he made 51 tackles with 2.5 sacks, forced two fumbles while recovering one. There are multiple other options that Notre Dame has at the position, with Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, Jaiden Ausberry, and true-freshman Madden Faraimo also fighting for playing time. Regardless of who takes the starting role, most likely all of these players will see plenty of time on the field for the Irish this fall.
