Vidya Balan Reveals Vidhu Vinod Chopra Asked Her To Get A Nose Job For Parineeta: 'Get Surgery Done'

Vidhu Vinod Chopra told Vidya Balan that her nose was too long. Vidya Balan made a powerful entry into Bollywood with Parineeta (2005), a film adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic Bengali novel. Directed by Pradeep Sarkar and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Parineeta showcased Vidya not just as a newcomer, but as an actress of depth and grace, capable of carrying a film with subtle intensity. However, Vidya recently revealed to Filmfare that Vidhu asked her to get a nose job done for the film. 'Vidhu Vinod Chopra said, 'Your nose is too long, let's get a surgery done.' I refused. I've never had anything done to my face — just the odd facial. I've always believed in keeping my face the way God made it," Vidya stated. 'Parineeta was a massive success. Top directors started calling. But at photoshoots, they'd say, 'Let's try something new with you,' and I'd think, 'What have you even seen of me to want something new?' They'd say, 'Let's make you look younger and sexy.' I was open to experimenting, but after a while, it got frustrating," she added. Set in 1960s Kolkata, Parineeta tells the story of Lalita (played by Vidya), an orphan raised by her uncle, and her complex relationship with her childhood friend Shekhar (Saif Ali Khan). The film explores themes of love, pride, and societal boundaries, capturing the essence of old-world romance and class conflict. Lalita is a quiet but strong-willed woman whose emotional resilience and unwavering dignity become the heart of the story. What stood out was Vidya Balan's nuanced performance. She brought warmth, restraint, and emotional honesty to the role. Her chemistry with Saif Ali Khan was both tender and intense, anchoring the emotional weight of the film. Her ability to convey strength through silence and grace marked her as a refreshing departure from the typical debutante. Critics and audiences alike lauded her performance, earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and establishing her as a serious actor in the industry. Parineeta also won praise for its lush cinematography, soulful music by Shantanu Moitra, and the lyrical storytelling that echoed the elegance of Hindi cinema's golden era. Today, Parineeta is remembered as more than just a debut film—it is the beginning of Vidya Balan's journey as one of India's most respected actresses, known for choosing meaningful roles and redefining the portrayal of women in Indian cinema. Maalik Box Office Day 4: Rajkummar Rao's Film Sees Lowest Single-Day Collection With Rs 1 Crore

Maalik Box Office Collection Day 4: Rajkummar Rao's Maalik, with Manushi Chhillar and Prosenjit Chatterjee, earned Rs 1 crore on Day 4, totaling Rs 15.59 crore. Maalik Box Office Collection Day 4: Rajkummar Rao's Maalik, which hit the big screens last Friday, started its journey on a promising note with a solid ensemble cast including Manushi Chhillar and Prosenjit Chatterjee. Over the weekend, the film held its ground well. But come Monday, the film hit its slowest day yet. As per early estimates by Sacnilk, Maalik added just Rs 1 crore to its box office tally on Day 4. With that, the film's total collection now stands a little above Rs 15 crore. While the dip isn't surprising given it was a Monday (and Mondays are notorious for pulling the brakes on most theatrical runs), it's still a crucial phase for the film to maintain momentum through the week. As per early estimates, Maalik collected Rs 1.34 crore on its fourth day at the box office — its lowest single-day earnings so far. But given it was a Monday, the dip in footfall isn't entirely unexpected. The film opened with Rs 3.75 crore on Friday. Over the weekend, it gained some momentum, bringing in Rs 5.25 crore each on Saturday and Sunday. With Monday's numbers in, Maalik's total collection now stands at Rs 15.59 crore. While the weekday drop was anticipated, the film will need steady numbers through the week. On Monday, Maalik recorded an overall 8.22 per cent Hindi occupancy in theatres. Despite the dip, Rajkummar Rao's political drama is faring better than Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyaan, which stars Vikrant Massey and marks Shanaya Kapoor's debut. That film has struggled to make a mark since day one. However, both Hindi releases are facing a tough challenge from the international juggernaut Superman, starring David Corenswet. The superhero film has already raked in over Rs 25 crore in India over its opening weekend. Directed by Pulkit, Maalik stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead role. The film also features Bengali cinema icon Prosenjit Chatterjee, former Miss World Manushi Chhillar, and Saurabh Sachdeva. The supporting cast includes Saurabh Shukla, Anshumaan Pushkar, Swanand Kirkire, Rajendra Gupta, and Baljinder Kaur. The News18 review of Maalik states, 'Maalik tries hard to be the next Mirzapur but ends up feeling like its distant cousin who was never invited to the family reunion. Pankaj Tripathi aka Kaleen Bhaiya's Mirzapur gave us a gritty storyline and iconic one-liners; however, Maalik serves as a recycled crime saga with no real punch. The violence feels random, the plot goes haywire post-interval, and the emotional beats just don't land. It's like watching someone try to recreate a gangster masterpiece with leftover scenes from Mirzapur." Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
