Virginia Tech Hokies Key to the Season
Block someone. We did this already in the offensive section, but it really is everything. The Hokies struggled way too much to consistently get the passing game going, the third-down conversions weren't there, and the time of possession battle wasn't a plus. That all came from the problems with pass protection and tackles for loss allowed. So ...

Lucas Austin, OT RFr.Of someone to dominate at a tackle spot. Xavier Chaplin was one of the top players in the transfer portal - more on that in a moment - and he needs to be replaced at left tackle. It'll take fall camp to figure it out, but if Austin plays like he's supposed to after coming over from West Virginia, this becomes a far easier puzzle to put together, helped by ...
Virginia Tech Hokies Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss
Top Transfer In: Thomas Rimac, OG Sr.To be way too basic about it, Virginia Tech horked a slew of good West Virginia linemen who took off rather than be a part of the Rich Rodriguez offensive style. Also, the Hokies had an offensive line that needed fixing. The 6-6, 317-pound Rimac is a two-time All-Big 12 Honorable Mention guard who'll step right in.Top Transfer Out: Xavier Chaplin, OT Sr.It was sort of an odd thing. The Virginia Tech pass protection wasn't good, the running game wasn't strong enough, but the line had a few star talents to work around. The 6-7, 338-pound Chaplin was an all-star at left tackle with the NFL size and skills. Now he'll be a key part of the Auburn offense.

at North Carolina State, Sept. 27Virginia Tech beat NC State 11-6 early in the 1902 season, and overall, it's been able to take its share of wins, but the Wolfpack have won the last two in 2022 and 2023. This year it's the ACC opener, and with nasty road games ahead against Georgia Tech and Florida State, picking off an away date right away is a must.- 2025 Virginia Tech Schedule Breakdown

Virginia Tech Hokies 2025 Season Prediction, Win Total, What Will Happen
It's not a totally unmanageable schedule, but it'll take several big breaks to come up with something big.Clemson, SMU, Pitt, and a don't-laugh-but-really nasty Duke off the slate. It's not right in any way that the Wolfpack don't play North Caroline, but that's for another time. The Hokies also miss the Notre Dame part-time ACC thing, too.And if Florida State and NC State play like they did last season, the road games are a relative breeze with three of the four in the ACC against teams that finished with losing records, and the other against Georgia Tech.
But NC State will be better, and so will Florida State. However, the Hokies only leave Virginia once after October 11th, the opener against South Carolina is in Atlanta, the Vanderbilt game is at home, and there isn't any one date on the slate that's a 100% sure-thing no-chance loss.At least for now, though, there are too many 50/50 games that lean loss. It'll be a bowl season, but everything has to work perfectly for anything more.Set The Virginia Tech Win Total At … 6.5Likely Wins: Old Dominion, Wofford50/50 Games: Cal, at Florida State, at Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, at NC State, South Carolina (in Atlanta), Vanderbilt, at Virginia, Wake ForestLikely Losses: No Projected Sure-Thing Losses 2025 Virginia Tech PreviewVirginia Tech Offense BreakdownVirginia Tech Defense Breakdown

WATCH: Texans DB Calen Bullock makes must-see interception vs Lions

Calen Bullock could end up recording an interception every game and no one should be shocked. The third-year Houston Texans defensive back has consistently found his hands on the ball during drills against C.J. Stroud at the Methodist Training Center back home, but the only thing that changed on Thursday was the person throwing the ball. During drills against the Detroit Lions, Pro Bowl quarterback Jared Goff tried to connect on a pass with All-Pro receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown for a touchdown, but Bullock jumped in front of the pass for another takeaway and celebration. Here's a video of the play, courtesy of the team's official social media account: Last season, Bullock finished with a team-leading five interceptions and three pass breakups. He was one of the breakout players who looks to be a foundational piece for the Texans' secondary as the back-to-back AFC South champions look to secure more than a division title this fall. The Texans and Lions face off on Saturday at Ford Field at Noon. After that, the Texans must trim their roster down to 53 ahead of Tuesday's deadline.

Craig Breslow adds upgrades to improve Red Sox roster

The roster needed a refresh and over a span of three days Breslow made four changes. It started on Tuesday when lefthander Jovani Morán was optioned and replaced by Brennan Bernardino. That was an upgrade. Bernardino has been a reliable option the last three season and was only in Worcester to get a little down time after appearing in 47 of the first 108 games. Advertisement 'I feel great,' said Bernardino, who threw a perfect inning on Tuesday against the Orioles. 'The time there was good for me.' Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up The Sox finally dropped struggling righthander Isaiah Campbell on Wednesday and replaced him with righthander Richard Fitts, who has a 3.78 earned run average in 14 starts for the Sox the last two seasons. Fitts should be capable of giving the Sox multiple innings out of the bullpen, something they badly need with Walker Buehler and Dustin May in the rotation. Fitts also offers an option should the Sox decide to drop Buehler from the rotation. But Buehler does have a 3.77 ERA in his last eight starts and the Sox have won five of those games. The Sox then designated infielder Abraham Toro for assignment on Thursday. That was overdue by at least a few days. David Hamilton was recalled to take his place on the roster. Advertisement Toro was a solid contributor through the All-Star break as part of a platoon at first base with Romy Gonzalez. But a .488 OPS in 25 games since the break along with defensive issues forced a change. 'I think Toro did an amazing job for us. We're not here without him,' manager Alex Cora said. He's not wrong. Toro and Gonzalez helped keep the Sox afloat when Triston Casas was lost for the season in May. But his lengthy slump and defensive issues couldn't be ignored much longer. With Nathaniel Lowe and Gonzalez platooning at first base, Hamilton can play second base and allow the Red Sox to use Ceddanne Rafaela where he belongs in center field. Through Wednesday, Rafaela had a .796 OPS in 383 plate appearances as a center fielder and a .325 OPS in 93 plate appearances at second base — all since July 12. Just leave him in center field. The fourth move wasn't one the Sox wanted to make. But right fielder Wilyer Abreu wasn't making any progress with his strained right calf and the decision was made on Thursday to put him on the injured list and call up 22-year-old Jhostynxon Garcia from Triple A Worcester. Garcia made a last-minute dash from Worcester to New York and arrived just after 6 p.m. Garcia — whose first name is pronounced JOES-tin-son — was given No. 51. That doesn't suggest he'll be around for too long. Rob Refsnyder is eligible to come off the injured list on Monday in Baltimore. His left oblique strain seems to be getting better based on his being with the team here and the on-field workout he did before the game on Thursday. Advertisement Cora pronounced himself pleased with how the roster looks after all the moves. 'I think we were more dynamic,' he said. 'We'll be able to keep mixing and matching … the fresh arms and the bullpen make a difference with Yeah. 'We went through a stretch there that we needed to do that because we weren't flexible roster-wise. But now we are now we are.' Is it enough? It has to be with the trade deadline long past. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Boston Red Sox, who kicked off a critical four-game series with their archrival New York Yankees with postseason implications Thursday, are discussing moving a two-time All-Star starter to their bullpen. According to Chris Cotillo of Walker Buehler is not guaranteed to make his next scheduled start Monday in Baltimore. More news: Red Sox to Promote Top Prospect After Scorching Start at Triple-A: Report It would be Buehler's second start against the Orioles in less than a week, a tough task for any pitcher. Wednesday in Boston, he allowed four hits, four walks, and two runs in four innings against the Orioles. Baltimore held on to win 4-3 in 11 innings. Although Baseball Reference pegged Boston's odds of making the postseason at 88 percent Thursday morning, that could easily change by Monday. And manager Alex Cora might be wise to reconsider the best role for Buehler, who's 7-7 with a 5.40 ERA in his first season since signing a one-year, $21.05 million contract with the Red Sox last winter — at least temporarily.
