Puri stampede: 147 people record statements before inquiry team
June 29 stampede
in Odisha's Puri district, where three persons were killed and around 50 others injured during the Rath Yatra festivities, officials said on Thursday.
These people recorded their statements before Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, who is leading the administrative inquiry, they said.
During the last hearing, held at the Special Circuit House, Puri on Wednesday, 42 people, including police personnel and staffers who were on duty on June 29 and deployed at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), recorded their statements, the officials said.

Garg, who has been asked to submit a report by July 30, said, "We have recorded statements of different stakeholders both in Bhubaneswar and Puri in four different sessions."
Seventeen people attended the public hearings in Bhubaneswar, and three other sessions were held in Puri, where many others recorded their statements on the stampede incident which took place near the Shree Gundicha temple, she said.

The stampede took place amid a massive rush of devotees early on June 29 when three chariots of sibling deities were parked in front of the Shree Gundicha temple.
Garg started her inquiry the next day and has so far met servitors, police, public and other stakeholders for preparing her final report.
She has visited the site where the stampede took place, an official said.
Immediately after the tragic incident, the state government had placed the then collector and SP of Puri under suspension.
Garg, during her inquiry, also met both the officers and held discussions with senior officials of
Jagannath Temple Police
(JTP) and media persons.
She sought video recording from media houses and the public, the official added.

Central govt sanctions Rs 821 crore for Delhi's development
New Delhi: Central govt has sanctioned Rs 821 crore as special assistance to accelerate the transformation of the national capital into a 'developed Delhi', chief minister Rekha Gupta said on Wednesday. Gupta said 66% of the sanctioned amount under the Special Assistance to States/UTs for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme 2025-26 was already released as the first instalment, enabling the "immediate commencement" of key projects. The funds will be utilised for critical public service sectors, including health, education, housing, drinking water, electricity and transport. While Rs 716 crore has been earmarked for 33 major infrastructure projects, the remaining Rs 105 crore will be used for the priority corridor of MRTS Phase-IV. The chief minister was informed about the scheme by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman when the former called on her earlier this month. Govt subsequently sent a proposal in compliance with all procedures, and seamless coordination with the Union ministry of finance ensured expeditious approval. Punjab sends Rs 113.2-crore pending bill to Haryana for Bhakra canal maintenance
1 2 Chandigarh: Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Wednesday said the state govt had sought a pending payment of Rs 113.24 crore for operations and maintenance of the Bhakra canal from Haryana govt, as part of an effort to recover dues owed of BBMB partner states. Cheema said Punjab was identifying the liabilities of Bhakra Beas Management Board partner states. He contended that previous regimes failed to claim outstanding dues from Haryana, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh, thereby compromising Punjab's interests within BBMB by permitting other states to draw excess water and neglect timely payments. Cheema added Punjab had officially forwarded a long-standing BBMB liability of Rs 113.24 crore to the Haryana govt for settlement. He detailed a thorough reconciliation by Punjab officials confirmed this outstanding amount, which includes Rs 103.92 crore for the Bhakra Main Line canal division, Patiala, and Rs 9.32 crore for the Mansa canal division, Jawaharke, all related to the reimbursement of actual expenditures on the "operation and maintenance" of common carrier channels of Bhakra systems. Earlier this month, Punjab govt withheld Rs 104 crore of BBMB funds over the last nine months because there had been no audit of its functioning in the past 70 years. The AAP-led Punjab govt has insisted on a comprehensive audit to ensure accountability for how Punjab's significant contribution of 60% of BBMB's total expenditure was being utilised. The state earlier refused to contribute Rs 3 crore towards the Rs 5-crore proposal by the BBMB to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pong Dam, citing financial constraints. Due to the lack of Punjab's contribution, BBMB did not move forward with the proposal. Cheema reiterated Punjab govt's commitment to resolving outstanding BBMB issues, stating that the AAP govt was focused on safeguarding the state's interests. He added govt's proactive approach aimed to protect the rights of Punjab and its citizens.
