Motorist issues warning after family is tailed on N4, N12

The Citizen3 days ago
In a message that is being circulated on social media, a motorist shared the frightening experience of being tailed by a vehicle flashing its lights while travelling with their family from Middelburg to Benoni last night at 19:00.
The message states how just after the Middelburg Toll Plaza, a vehicle behind them started flashing its lights repeatedly.
'I moved over to let it pass, but it continued flashing and even switched on its hazard lights, as though trying to force us to stop,' the message reads.
The motorist sensed that something was wrong, and writes how they chose to ignore the signals and kept driving.
'The vehicle persistently followed us, even taking the same slip road toward Johannesburg. I was left with no doubt that we were being targeted — likely for hijacking or robbery.'
The motorist sped up to create distance and turned around heading back to Middelburg at the next off-ramp.
'We exited at the mall off-ramp and stopped at McDonald's in Witbank. As we pulled in, we saw that a red Audi, which had been apparently following us, also passed by. After we stopped, we checked our car — everything was perfectly fine.'
According to the motorist, they later spoke to traffic officers based at the toll gate, who confirmed knowing of two vehicles, a red Audi and a Toyota Avanza, which were operating in the area targeting motorists at the toll gate.
'Alhamdulillah, we are safe, but this was clearly an attempted setup. I urge all travelers, especially those with families, to be extremely cautious on the N12 at night.
'Do not stop if you are being signaled by unknown vehicles and get to a public place that is well lit and busy.
May Allah protect us all from harm and grant safety to every traveler,' the message concluded.
The message is being sent on various WhatsApp groups, and was shared by Pitstop Towing on the Traffic and Accidents Update group.
The identity of the motorist who originally shared the message is unknown to the Middelburg Observer, which is attempting to make contact with the individual.

Advocate Malesela Teffo defends Kelly Khumalo against bullying

In a surprising turn, former advocate Malesela Teffo has stepped forward to defend Kelly Khumalo against ongoing social media harassment. Despite previously accusing Kelly of involvement in Senzo Meyiwa's murder, Teffo now asks fellow South Africans to cease harassing the singer. Last week, Teffo claimed Kelly shot and killed her late partner, Senzo Meyiwa, causing widespread outrage and backlash across platforms. Meyiwa, the former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, was murdered on October 26, 2014, while visiting Kelly's mother's home in Vosloorus. Five men currently face charges in this high-profile case, which has been ongoing for several years without resolution. Although disbarred for misconduct, Teffo continued making wild accusations against Kelly during a recent appearance on Podcast and Chill . Now, he publicly regrets his statements and urges the public to respect the legal process and refrain from harassment. In a video shared by Ntsiki Mazwai on X, Teffo pleaded for kindness and stressed the importance of Kelly's testimony in court. 'I want to make a plea to my countrymen and women in relation to the treatment of Ms Nonhlanhla Kelly Khumalo. I have seen that she has made an attempt to respond to what I said on Podcast and Chill; however, it was not necessarily because I was not fighting. 'Kelly is a very important witness in Senzo Meyiwa's case. We need her to testify. I'm pleading with you to refrain from attacking her and saying nasty things about her.' Teffo says the ' Empini ' singer has never refused to testify, but Advocate George Baloyi continues to avoid calling her to court. He insists Kelly and Longwe Twala could provide crucial evidence that could prove the five accused suspects are innocent beyond doubt. Teffo believes both hold key facts that expose the truth and potentially clear the wrongly accused men completely. He maintains the suspects are innocent and claims the real killers remain free due to failures in the initial investigation. 'I assure you that I'm going back to this case. I will call Kelly Khumalo, and within two months, the case will be closed with the truth on this matter. It's my humble plea that we respect Kelly,' says Teffo. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS? Breakthrough in DJ Sumbody case as four suspects are arrested

Four men, including one suspected of ordering the hit on Oupa John Sefoka, widely known as DJ Sumbody, have been arrested. The multi-talented DJ was tragically gunned down in a hail of bullets in November 2022, sending shockwaves across the country. On Monday, 21 July 2025, the SAPS announced a major breakthrough, confirming the arrest of four key suspects in the high-profile case. Gauteng's top organised crime unit, working closely with the SAPS Political Killings Task Team, successfully apprehended four key suspects. Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the national police spokesperson, said that officers arrested the suspects in Gauteng on Monday afternoon. Three of the suspects are believed to be the hitmen, while the fourth is suspected to be the mastermind who orchestrated and ordered the fatal attack. Police also said they found the weapon used in the shooting and confirmed its link to several other murders. The suspects are facing charges that include murder and conspiracy to commit murder. General Masemola said the breakthrough is critical and expressed hope it would bring long-awaited closure to grieving families. 'Well done to the teams that have been piecing together evidence since November 2022. This is a culmination of hard work and dedication to justice. This is one of those complex cases that our teams needed to take their time in ensuring a thorough investigation so that we could ultimately bring a strong case before the court', said Gen Fannie Masemola. TIMELINE OF EVENTS: THE DJ SUMBODY MURDER CASE DJ Sumbody died in a hail of bullets on November 20, 2022, in Woodmead, Johannesburg. Shortly after, by late 2022, police began gathering ballistic evidence and investigating possible motives related to his brutal murder. Subsequently, in 2023, investigators transferred the case to the SAPS Political Killings Task Team as its complexity increased. Then, by mid-2024, new forensic evidence surfaced, revealing firearm links to several other murder cases under investigation. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE ARRESTS?
