Advocate Malesela Teffo defends Kelly Khumalo against bullying
Despite previously accusing Kelly of involvement in Senzo Meyiwa's murder, Teffo now asks fellow South Africans to cease harassing the singer.
Last week, Teffo claimed Kelly shot and killed her late partner, Senzo Meyiwa, causing widespread outrage and backlash across platforms. Meyiwa, the former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, was murdered on October 26, 2014, while visiting Kelly's mother's home in Vosloorus.
Five men currently face charges in this high-profile case, which has been ongoing for several years without resolution. Although disbarred for misconduct, Teffo continued making wild accusations against Kelly during a recent appearance on Podcast and Chill .
Now, he publicly regrets his statements and urges the public to respect the legal process and refrain from harassment. In a video shared by Ntsiki Mazwai on X, Teffo pleaded for kindness and stressed the importance of Kelly's testimony in court.
'I want to make a plea to my countrymen and women in relation to the treatment of Ms Nonhlanhla Kelly Khumalo. I have seen that she has made an attempt to respond to what I said on Podcast and Chill; however, it was not necessarily because I was not fighting.
'Kelly is a very important witness in Senzo Meyiwa's case. We need her to testify. I'm pleading with you to refrain from attacking her and saying nasty things about her.'
Teffo says the ' Empini ' singer has never refused to testify, but Advocate George Baloyi continues to avoid calling her to court. He insists Kelly and Longwe Twala could provide crucial evidence that could prove the five accused suspects are innocent beyond doubt.
Teffo believes both hold key facts that expose the truth and potentially clear the wrongly accused men completely. He maintains the suspects are innocent and claims the real killers remain free due to failures in the initial investigation.
'I assure you that I'm going back to this case. I will call Kelly Khumalo, and within two months, the case will be closed with the truth on this matter. It's my humble plea that we respect Kelly,' says Teffo.

Madlanga inquiry: Mkhwanazi first to be consulted
Madlanga said the hearings will begin as soon as all necessary steps are finalised. Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, says his team is treating the bombshell revelations by KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi about police interference with the urgency it deserves. Madlanga outlined the process of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system at a media briefing in Sandton on Monday, which include scheduling Mkhwanazi as the first to be consulted. President Cyril Ramaphosa announced his decision to establish a commission of inquiry to investigate the serious allegations of alleged political interference in police operations made by Mkhwanazi earlier in July. Urgency Madlanga who has been tasked to chair the commission said the hearings will begin as soon as all necessary steps are finalised. 'We want to ensure South Africans that we are treating the matter with the urgency that it deserves. '[What] we also consider to be of importance to the public is the question of lodgement with the commission by members of the public of information that is considered to be relevant to what the commission is investigating,' Madlanga said. 'We are proceeding with the Commission's preparatory work full steam ahead. First that much is supported by what I said in the opening, which is that the first consultation has already been scheduled and will take place immediately.' During the briefing, Madlanga also revealed they would meet with Mkhwanazi in the coming days. 'The imminent consultation that I referred to is going to be with Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi. One has no idea what the consultation will lead to.' [WATCH] Judicial Commission of Inquiry chairperson, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, says his team is treating the police interference claims with the urgency it deserves and that hearings will begin as soon as all necessary steps are finalised. — SABC News (@SABCNews) July 28, 2025 Timeline Madlanga added that the timeline for the commission of inquiry into criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system is 'quite tight'. 'Regarding the timeline, we will conduct our work with the timeline in mind. Should the need arise for an extension, that is something we will address at the right time. 'Just looking at the allegations that were made on the 6th of July, they seem to cover quite a wide spectrum and, in consultations and investigations, are likely to yield a lot more than what was referred to in the allegations 6 July. So the timelines, I must say, do appear to be quite tight,' Madlanga said. Mkhwanazi, who also made allegations against Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, Shadrack Sibiya, also alleged Mchunu had connections to tenderpreneur Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala, a figure who previously held a now-cancelled R360 million police contract. The commission is also expected to include key institutions such as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the South African Police Service (Saps) and the State Security Agency (SSA). The commission is expected to deliver a preliminary report in three months and a final report within six months of its formation. South African cruise ship worker stabbed
A 28-year-old South African woman working aboard Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas is recovering in hospital after she was stabbed multiple times in an onboard attack. According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the suspect – also a South African and reportedly her co-worker and partner – died after jumping overboard moments after the incident. The tragedy occurred while the cruise ship was sailing near San Salvador Island. The injured crew member was treated immediately by the ship's medical staff and later airlifted to Miami, where she remains in stable condition. Witnesses say the 35-year-old male suspect fled the scene after the stabbing, climbed over a railing, and jumped into the ocean. A rescue operation was launched within minutes, but the man was found unresponsive. He was declared dead on board a rescue vessel. Police believe the stabbing was linked to a domestic dispute between the two. Authorities are interviewing passengers and crew to reconstruct the events leading up to the attack and the suspect's fatal jump. 'We are gathering statements and evidence. Witness accounts are key to completing our investigation,' a police spokesperson said. A full report will be released once the investigation concludes. Cruise operator Royal Caribbean confirmed the incident and has pledged its full cooperation with Bahamian authorities. 'Crew safety is a top priority,' the company stated. 'We are supporting those affected and working closely with investigators.' This is the second violent incident involving a South African crew member at sea this year. In an earlier case, 20-year-old Paige Bell was found dead in the engine room of a private yacht. A Mexican crew member is currently facing culpable homicide charges. Passengers and maritime staff have voiced growing concern over the safety of South African nationals working in the cruise and yachting industries.
