These three players on LSU football's 2025 roster signed when Ed Orgeron was head coach

USA Todaya day ago
Brian Kelly is entering year four as LSU football's head coach. 2021 feels like a lifetime ago at this point, but Kelly has been at LSU for less than a half-decade. A few players on the 2025 LSU roster signed with LSU when Ed Orgeron was the head coach. Three to be exact.
Despite all the turnover, all the transfers in and transfers out, three players have stuck it out. These three have been with LSU through a head coaching transition and multiple coordinator firings and hirings on both sides of the ball. They were with LSU for the SEC title in 2022 before watching quarterback Jayden Daniels win a Heisman Trophy in 2023. They were here for the ups and downs of 2024, and now they'll see what 2025 has to offer.
Here are the three players on LSU's roster who signed when Ed Orgeron was the head coach.
Sixth-year senior defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory
Guillory is the elder statesman of LSU. He signed with the Tigers in 2020 and now enters his sixth year with the program. Guillory took a redshirt in 2020 before entering the rotation in 2021. He served as quality depth for a few years before he was expected to take on a major role in 2024. Injuries hampered that plan, ending Guillory's season in week two last year.
Guillory elected to return and now gets another crack at being LSU's top defensive tackle. Guillory has 25 career pressures and 21 stops. Most of that production came in 2023, when Guillory played 258 snaps.
Fifth-year senior quarterback Garrett Nussmeier
Nussmeier signed with LSU in 2021 as a blue-chip quarterback. He saw some time as a true freshman, but elected to maintain his redshirt. He took part in LSU's QB battle in 2022, but Jayden Daniels won the job. Nussmeier saw spurts of action in relief of Daniels and looked impressive. There was talk of Nussmeier transferring somewhere else to start, but he remained with LSU in 2023 despite Jayden Daniels returning.
In 2024, Nussmeier got his chance to run the show. Nussmeier was a prolific passer and played a key role in LSU's big wins vs. South Carolina and Ole Miss. Consistency was an issue, but Nussmeier is expected to be one of the top QBs in the country this year.
Fifth-year senior wide receiver Chris Hilton
Hilton signed alongside Nussmeier in 2021. That receiver class turned out to be loaded with talent. Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. went on to have illustrious LSU careers. Jack Bech signed with LSU in 2021 but transferred to TCU ahead of the 2023 season. He excelled as a Horned Frog and is gearing up for his rookie year in the NFL.
Hilton's LSU career to this point has been marred by a couple of injuries. He missed most of 2022 with a torn ACL and struggled to get back in 2024 after an offseason surgery. But when Hilton did get his feet under him in 2024, he provided a much-needed deep ball threat to LSU's offense. He finished the year with strong outings vs. Oklahoma and Baylor and has a chance to be one of LSU's top contributors in 2025.

Ryan Williams ditched nail polish this summer, but will it return for Alabama football season?

Wide receiver Ryan Williams brought a tradition of his own to Alabama football last season. "Hollywood" went viral week after week for what color his fingernails were painted, donning purple, yellow and green ahead of LSU and even going as far inking an NIL deal with polish brand Sally Hansen. However, the sophomore star's nails were noticeably bare at media day. Williams was willing to offer an explanation for the absence, and whether his iconic manicures will make another appearance this season. MORE FROM MEDIA DAY! Who wins in an Alabama football footrace: Ryan Williams or Rico Scott? 'He ain't faster than me' WHAT RYAN WILLIAMS SAID: Why Alabama football quarterback Ty Simpson 'knows he deserves to talk' this season "It's just been, you know, fall camp, and even this summer I don't think I have really," Williams said. Instead, Williams says his offseason has "just been focused on ball." Will Ryan Williams' painted nails be making a comeback for Alabama football 2025 season? As the season heats up with the first kickoff of the fall on August 30 at Florida State, is there time for the painted nails to make a comeback? "1,000 percent," Williams said. He knew exactly what question was coming next. What color is up first? Will it be the Florida State's Garnet and Gold? Could he switch it up with FSU's Seminole Heritage turquoise? Or will Williams start his second season with a traditional Crimson and White? Just like last year, it's not going to be up to him. "I've got to ask my little sister first," Williams said.
