Vegetation fire destroys structures, kills livestock in rural Tracy
The blaze was reported around 7:15 p.m. in the 31000 block of South Tracy Boulevard, the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority said. The fire authority said Tracy firefighters arrived to find flames spreading from dry vegetation into numerous outbuildings, including barns, stables, sheds, and livestock enclosures.
Crews' initial attack was hampered by livestock blocking entrances and roadways, delaying access to the flames. Officials said the property housed horses, cows, goats, and other animals. Some animals died in the fire, but it's not yet clear how many.
About 40 firefighters and 12 engines from multiple agencies responded to assist with the firefight, the fire authority said.
One home on the property sustained minor burn damage. A vehicle was also damaged. No people were injured.
The fire has since been contained and crews were mopping up hot spots. The cause remains under investigation.

MADRID (AP) — Firefighters in Spain, Portugal and Greece continued to battle wildfires Friday on a public holiday in all three countries as persistent hot, dry conditions challenged efforts to contain the blazes. Spain was fighting 14 major fires. Temperatures were expected to climb over the weekend. 'Today will once again be a very tough day, with an extreme risk of new fires,' Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez wrote on X. The national weather agency AEMET warned of extreme fire risk in most of the country, including where the largest blazes were burning in the north and west. A heatwave which brought temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) on several days this month was expected to last through Monday. Fires in the Galicia region forced the closure of several highways. The high speed rail line connecting it to Spain's capital, Madrid, remained suspended. The fires in Spain this year have burned 158,000 hectares or 610 square miles, according to the European Union's European Forest Fire Information System. That is an area roughly as big as metropolitan London. In both Spain and Portugal it was the Feast of the Assumption, a major Catholic holiday usually marked by family gatherings and religious processions. In Portugal, nearly 4,000 firefighters were battling seven major fires. Authorities extended the state of alert until Sunday, amid high temperatures expected to last through the weekend. A wildfire in Greece burned out of control for a fourth day on the island of Chios, prompting several more overnight evacuations. Two water-dropping planes and two helicopters were operating in the north of the island in the eastern Aegean Sea, where local authorities said a lull in high winds was helping firefighters early Friday. Following a series of large fires in western Greece earlier this week, the Fire Service was on alert Friday outside Athens and nearby areas in the south of the country where adverse weather conditions elevated the fire risk. Pittsburgh in for a "dry" heat on Friday and Saturday
There's a lot to talk about heading into your weekend, so let's get started with what's most important to many out there, the weekend forecast. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos I have dry conditions both today and Saturday, with rain chances around on Sunday. Highs today will be in the upper 80s, and there is an outside chance that a community or two gets to 90 degrees. Humidity levels will be in the low range, with dew points in the low 60s. This means while hot, your comfort level won't be in the extreme range. Heat index values will be within a degree of the highs. Friday winds will be out of the north-northwest at around 5mph. Saturday highs will be near 90 degrees. I have Pittsburgh hitting 91° for the high with humidity levels still low to moderate for the day. Skies should remain mostly sunny. There are a lot of activities going on Saturday, including a Steelers preseason game, Little Italy Days, and VegFest at the Allegheny Commons. If heading out, make sure you do the usual things to ensure your comfort, including lots of water. Rain chances are back on Sunday. Right now, moisture levels look to be near normal, and that should mean just isolated to maybe scattered showers should be expected throughout the day. Storm chances will be low, but I expect we will see a couple of storms rumbling through. Sunday highs should be back in the upper 80s with the increase in cloud cover and rain chances. Morning lows will be near 70 degrees. Yesterday, parts of our area were included in the weekly US Drought Monitor drought map. This is the first time since April that parts of the area have been included in their weekly drought maps. The Drought Monitor's maps come out every Thursday, but the data cut-off is on Tuesday morning. I only have scattered rain chances in place both Sunday and Monday, with little consistent rain expected before the Tuesday cut-off. Our best rain chances for the next week come on Tuesday and Wednesday. Finally, the Atlantic's first major hurricane is expected to develop this weekend and may happen by the end of today. At this point (6 a.m. Friday, August 15th), tropical storm Erin has sustained winds of 70mph and is just shy of hurricane intensity.
