Charli xcx and The 1975's George Daniel marry as fans gush over 'beautiful' dress

Daily Mirror19-07-2025
Charli xcx and The 1975 star George Daniel have married. In a video seen by the Mirror, the pair happily posed outside of what appears to be a registry office, surrounded by their nearest and dearest.
Brat queen Charli looked sensational in a white dress, with a heart-shaped neckline, as she held onto her bouquet of flowers while posing for pictures.
Their wedding comes just days after George returned to the UK having been in Ibiza with his bandmates, including Matty Healy, for his stag do.
Fans have been left gushing over the newlyweds, with one writing: "She looks so good." A second penned: "OMG, shut up she looks beautiful." "Congratulations Charli and George," said a third. Meanwhile, a fourth exclaimed: "Pop royalty just got their crown. Congrats to Charli and George!"
It was previously reported that the pair would be heading to Sicily and the budget was not a conversation they wanted to have and agreed there would be no expense spared. "Charli and George fell in love with Sicily and knew they wanted to get married there," a source said.
They went on to add to The Sun: "It's incredibly secluded and romantic. There will be no expense spared. It's costing tens of thousands of pounds, and visually it will be mesmerising. Charli and George said they wanted a massive party, and there are no restrictions on when the bar has to close, so it can go on all night."
The insider commented that the ceremony would be filled to the brim with celebrities as the pair walked down the aisle. George popped the question to Charli in November 2023, just a year after the couple started dating one another.

Gregg Wallace's Masterchef behaviour is branded 'disastrous' by former winner

Janet Street Porter has branded Gregg Wallace's excuse for his behaviour on MasterChef as 'disastrous' - and compared him to another BBC star in the process Janet Street Porter has labelled Gregg Wallace's justification for his conduct on MasterChef as "disastrous". The 60-year-old TV personality was dismissed from the popular BBC programme following an inquiry that upheld 45 out of 83 accusations levelled against him. ‌ The allegations ranged from unwelcome physical contact to instances of inappropriate undress. While Gregg has since expressed regret, he firmly maintains that he is "not a groper, a sex pest or a flasher". ‌ Following the launch of the investigation, Gregg disclosed his autism diagnosis. He criticised the showrunners for failing to "investigate my disability" or safeguard him from what he now perceives as a "protect me from what I now realise was a dangerous environment". ‌ In a chat with The Sun, he admitted: "I know I struggle to read people. I know people find me weird. Autism is a disability, a registered disability." He further attributed the claim that he "never wears pants" to his autism, explaining: "It's not sexualised. It's hypersensitivity - that happens with autism." ‌ However, Janet Street Porter, 78, took issue with Gregg's defence during her appearance on Times Radio. She drew parallels between the MasterChef probe and an investigation into allegations made against Russell Brand. Earlier this year, the BBC issued an apology after examining eight complaints about the former 6 Music presenter. Of these complaints, two were lodged during his tenure at the corporation. Former Celebrity MasterChef winner Janet has spoken out, saying: "Back then anybody working class, first of all you were regarded as a bit thick. He has no justification, his justification for everything has been disastrous, absolutely disastrous." ‌ She continued to draw parallels with another celebrity, stating: "He's exactly like Russell Brand, he's in his own world and they just do not see it. They do not see it. There's plenty of people like that." The BBC parted ways with both Gregg and his ex-colleague John Torode following an inquiry into their behaviour on MasterChef. The investigation, led by law firm Lewis Silkin, found merit in a complaint alleging John used racist language eight years prior. ‌ John however denies the allegation, and says he has "no recollection of the alleged incident and does not believe that it happened". Speaking in the immediate aftermath of his "sacking", John said: "Although I haven't heard from anyone at the BBC or Banijay - I am seeing and reading that I've been 'sacked' from MasterChef and I repeat that I have no recollection of what I'm accused of. He expressed disappointment over how the situation was handled, adding: "The enquiry could not even state the date or year of when I am meant to have said something wrong. I'd hoped that I'd have some say in my exit from a show I've worked on since its relaunch in 2005, but events in last few days seem to have prevented that." Despite the controversy surrounding Gregg, the BBC has announced that the new series of MasterChef will still be broadcast next month. ‌ A BBC spokesperson stated: "After careful consideration and consultation with the contestants, we have decided to broadcast the amateur series of MasterChef on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 6 August. MasterChef is an amazing competition which is life-changing for the amateur chefs taking part. The focus of it has always been their skill and their journey." The broadcaster acknowledged the complexity of the decision, saying: "This has not been an easy decision in the circumstances and we appreciate not everyone will agree with it. In showing the series, which was filmed last year, it in no way diminishes our view of the seriousness of the upheld findings against both presenters. We have been very clear on the standards of behaviour that we expect of those who work at the BBC or on shows made for the BBC." The spokesperson continued: "However, we believe that broadcasting this series is the right thing to do for these cooks who have given so much to the process. We want them to be properly recognised and give the audience the choice to watch the series." The corporation has yet to make any announcement regarding the Christmas or celebrity versions of the programme.

Huge British rockstar launches UK's largest multi-venue music festival

Matty Healy has backed a brand new British music festival that will take place in venues across the UK. The Seed Sounds Weekenders will see more than 2,000 gigs take place in 1,000 pubs, bars, and restaurants in a bid to celebrate the arts in Britain. It will take place from September 26 to 28, with performances from local artists, spotlighting venues that played a crucial part in launching the careers of many of our favourite artists. The festival launches with support from The 1975 frontman, 36, who will act as an ambassador for Seed Sounds Weekend. 'Local venues aren't just where bands cut their teeth, they're the foundation of any real culture,' the About You hitmaker said in a statement. 'Without them, you don't get The Smiths, Amy Winehouse, or The 1975. You get silence. The erosion of funding for seed and grassroots spaces is part of a wider liberal tendency to strip away the socially democratic infrastructure that actually makes art possible.' He went on to say that because of this, we are left with a landscape where 'only the privileged can afford to create.' 'The Seed Sounds Weekender is a vital reminder that music doesn't start in boardrooms or big arenas; it starts in back rooms, pubs, basements, and independent spaces run on love, grit, and belief in something bigger.' A full list of venues and artists taking part is available at Tickets are available now. Speaking ahead of the event, GigPig co-founder Kit Muir-Rogers said that seed venues in the UK are 'where music careers are born.' 'Collectively, this space promotes more music than any other in the live music business, yet it has gone overlooked and underappreciated,' he continued. Birmingham Bournemouth Coventry Edinburgh Exeter Glasgow Harrogate Leeds Leicester Liverpool London Manchester Middlesbrough Newcastle Nottingham Oxford Sheffield Southampton Sunderland York 'The Seed Sounds Weekender is not just a festival; it's a rallying point for a sector that deserves to be celebrated for its immense contribution to British music.' The 1975 was formed in Wilmslow, Cheshire, in 2002 by Healy, lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel. More Trending From the beginning, when the members were in secondary school, the 1975 went on to become one of Britain's biggest pop rock groups, winning numerous accolades, including four Brit Awards. They have been heavily praised by the likes of Robbie Williams and Justin Hawkins for their musical style, with the Evening Standard hailing them the 'most compelling pop band on the planet' in 2023 The group headlined this year's Glastonbury Festival alongside Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo.
