BJP functionary arrested in Haridwar for making her boyfriend, aide gang-rape minor daughter
Haridwar: A BJP functionary from Haridwar, who previously held top posts in the party's district unit, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly making her boyfriend and his associate gang-rape her 13-year-old daughter. The accused boyfriend, 33, has also been arrested while his accomplice, in his 30s, remains at large. Police said the woman, who had been living separately from her husband after a dispute a few months ago, forced her daughter to consume alcohol so the two men could rape her. The first gang-rape incident took place in Jan in which the girl was assaulted inside a car while her mother was present, said the SHO of the police station concerned. The abuse continued until March, when the accused trio took trips to Agra and Vrindavan, he added. "The girl was gang-raped around eight times, all in the presence of her mother," said the officer. The teen was also assaulted at a hotel in Haridwar that is leased in the name of her mother and her boyfriend, police said. They added that the accused would threaten the girl saying they would kill her father if she said anything. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Make Smarter Health Insurance Choices Search7 Learn More Undo After months of enduring the assault, the survivor finally disclosed her ordeal to her father. Subsequently, he filed a complaint on Tuesday and after conducting an initial probe, a case was registered on Wednesday under BNS sections 70(2) (gang rape), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), 3(5) (criminal act by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and relevant sections of the Posco Act against the three accused. Haridwar SSP Pramendra Dobal told TOI, "A medical examination of the girl confirmed sexual assault after which the woman and her boyfriend were arrested. The girl's mother forced her into having physical relations with the men by telling her that it is a normal part of moving ahead in life." The girl's statement has been recorded before a magistrate and police have formed a team to arrest the third accused.

Crime AI an end-to-end investigation tool
"Currently, the NCRP complaint system relies on manual complaint submission through self-registration on the portal or through the 1930 helpline. It lacks intelligent classification, real-time tracking and streamlined investigation capabilities for complex fraud cases," said the startup's founder, Meet Bisht, a BTech in cybersecurity from Parul University and a cyber expert who worked closely with Gujarat Police. "Manual data entry is prone to human error. Often, minute details are missing from complaints as cyberfraud victims are often unaware of what is needed like the crime category or subcategory or transaction IDs," Bisht said. "As this process is time-consuming, by the time a complaint is lodged, the stolen funds have been layered through multiple accounts and recovery either becomes difficult or is only partial. There is also workload duplication for LEAs as the same fraudsters/accounts appear in multiple cases with no linkage," Bisht added. Crime AI was proposed as a solution at the IndiaAI I4C Cyber Guard AI Hackathon — the national competition organized by the India AI Mission in collaboration with the I4C. "Crime AI is a smart, end-to-end cybercrime investigation portal with AI classification, optical character recognition (OCR), voice processing and LEA workflow management features," said Bisht, whose team of young innovators, Rohit Ganaka and Yukta Chauhan, bagged Rs 3 lakh in funding after winning the third prize at the hackathon. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Health Plans for 2025 – Start Here Search7 Learn More Undo The AI classification in Crime AI auto-detects complaint category and subcategory using natural language processing. "The OCR-powered document analysis feature extracts text from screenshots, PDFs and images uploaded by complainants and auto-fills in the fields of the form from the evidence files," he said. Through audio transcription, voice complaints are converted into structured text. This feature detects and extracts entities like names, amounts, banks and fraud types, among others," said Bisht, adding that currently, the AI model supports more than 15 Indian languages. "With this model, law enforcement agencies, including those at district, state or national level, can even ask banks or payment gateways to freeze funds or put liens on accounts if there is a complaint of fraud," said Bisht.

Police register case over bad roads in Kochi
Kochi: Palarivattom police registered a case against the contractor deployed by Indian Oil Adani Gas Private Ltd (IOAGPL) and a private individual who are allegedly responsible for the poor condition of four roads in the area. Police registered a case under Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act based on a complaint that the roads dug up by KWA and IOAGPL were not restored to their original standards. "Thammanam-Pulleppady Road, PJ Antony Road, Mahakavi Vailoppilli Road and Nandanath Kachacko Road in Palarivattom area have been remaining in a dilapidated condition for the past several years. When I submitted an RTI application seeking whether the local body gave nod to dig up any of these roads, reply from the main office of corporation was that they gave approval to dig up only Thammanam-Pulleppady Road. Approval was given to a person called Divya Roslin for 15 days in Dec 2024. I think she may be the contractor deployed by other agencies. Police are yet to identify her," said Firdous Ammanath, a lawyer who filed the case. "Other three roads were dug up without permission. As per a govt directive issued in 2024, those digging up a road should restore it as per its original standard. I lodged a complaint with Palarivattom police seeking action against those responsible for the poor condition of roads. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo As police failed to take action, I moved judicial first-class magistrate court, Ernakulam, which asked police to register a case," Ammanath said. Several other roads in the city are in a dilapidated condition. "Agencies like IOAGPL, KWA and telecom service providers used to dig up roads, and in several cases, this is done without permission. Lack of proper monitoring on the part of road-owning agencies like Kochi corporation and PWD is one of the reasons for the increasing number of unauthorized road cuttings," said corporation opposition leader Antony Kureethara. Mayor M Anilkumar said corporation would ensure proper restoration of roads. "In certain cases, contractors are not ready to undertake such works. Anyway, we will strengthen monitoring to nab offenders," he said. On Palarivattom police registering a case, he said, "Law will take its own course." Though TOI tried to get the response of IOAGPL officials, they didn't reply. KWA officials feigned ignorance about roads not being restored after the agency dug them up.
