Tuck into a durian feast and authentic Penang dishes at the Taste of Malaysia Festival
A durian expert will be on site to freshly crack open the spiky treasures, including beloved varieties such as the custardy smooth Musang King D197; the black horse of durians Blak Thorn D200, which is rarely sold here; the Tupai King D124, which is selling for an eye-watering US$30 per kilogram in Malaysia; the bittersweet XO D24; and the nostalgic Gang Hai D1, which reigned as the global favourite before newer cultivars entered the game. Musang King D197, Golden Bun D13, XO D24, and Mas D101 will be available for an all-you-can-eat frenzy, accompanied by other exotic fruits like mangosteens, rambutans, and cempedak.
Aside from durians, The Mira Hong Kong will also host an unlimited dinner buffet, so arrive hungry! Six live cooking stations inspired by Penang's famous night market food stalls will whip up bak kut teh herbal bone broth, fried oyster omelette, white curry noodles, satay, char kway teow stir-fried noodles, Malaysian chicken rice, and more delights from Malaysia. There will also be popular hot dishes on the buffet like nasi lemak, beef rendang, rojak salad, and tempoyak ikan patin – savoury catfish in fermented durian paste.
And of course, the durian fever carries over into sweets, with bottomless Malaysian desserts such as onde onde pandan dough balls and ais kacang shaved iced, as well as six treats incorporating durians. Save room for the D198 Golden Phoenix durian choux puff, the D197 Musang King durian pudding, the D24 durian mochi, and more. You'll probably need some cooling herbal teas after all that heaty fruit, but it'll be worth it!
The Taste of Malaysia festival is originally slated for July 15 to 18, but even with an additional day added, the event sold out so quickly that The Mira Hong Kong has decided to do a second round of celebrations and feasting from July 30 to August 1. Tickets run for $838 for adults and $588 for children, with Mira Plus members enjoying a 10-percent discount.
Pro tip: If you can't make the durian buffet, don't fret, because there will be an afternoon tea buffet at Yamm that also celebrates the spiked fruit, running every weekend from July 19 to August 31.

This is officially America's best city for nightlife right now
A good night out means different things to different people. Maybe it's sweating it out on a dancefloor until dawn. Maybe it's catching up over a glass of wine, immersing yourself in rare grooves at a listening bar or even wiling away the hours at a sober club. Whatever your style, America's nightlife scene has it all, but one city stands out above the rest. According to Time Out, Las Vegas has been crowned not only the best nightlife city in the U.S., but the world's best nightlife city for 2025. The city scored an impressive 88-percent approval rating from a survey of locals and won praise from Time Out's expert panel. Sin City still brings the classic casino vibes and and mega-clubs with confetti drops, but the city's after-dark scene has evolved. These days, the real magic often happens off the Strip. Vegas's Arts District is home to cocktail lounges like Stray Pirate, Doberman and Nocturno, where bartenders craft creative drinks with wild infusions. Locals love the city's speakeasies, too: There's one hidden behind a barbershop, another behind a bookshelf at a Malaysian eatery and another called The Lock, which you literally crawl into through a safe door. Add tiki bars, live music joints and art-filled night markets, and it's easy to see why most locals call their nightlife 'exciting.' While Vegas is the only U.S. city to be named among the world's best, America's top nightlife cities are far from tame. At number two, Chicago keeps the party going with its mix of gritty dive bars, rooftop lounges, legendary house music clubs and late-night blues joints. Coming in third is New Orleans, where the soundtrack never stops. Frenchmen Street overflows with brass bands, funk collectives and soul singers playing to crowds that spill onto the sidewalk. The Quarter still has its rowdy energy, but locals swear by the smaller spots—dark, intimate bars where the cocktails are strong and the vibe is easygoing. Miami and New York, nightlife juggernauts, round out the top five. Whether it's a huge rave or a quiet whisky at an underground lounge, nightlife in the U.S. has never looked more diverse—or more fun. And right now, Vegas is leading the charge.
