Love Island USA Season 7 winner Amaya "Papaya" Espinal has spoken out about her co-star Cierra Ortega's sudden exit from the series.
During Wednesday's episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, the reality television star condemned Ortega's prior use of a racial slur.
Newsweek reached out to Ortega's representative via email on Thursday for comment.
The Context
Ortega was ousted from the villa over a resurfaced social media post in which she used a racial slur toward the Asian community.
In a video posted to her Instagram on July 10, Ortega, who had been dating Nicolas Vansteenberghe before leaving the show, issued an apology.
"While I was in the villa, there were some posts that resurfaced from my past where I was very naively using an incredibly offensive and derogatory term," she said.
"I want to first start by addressing not just anyone that I have hurt or deeply offended, but most importantly, the entire Asian community. I am deeply, truly, honestly so sorry. I had no idea that the word held as much pain as much harm, and came with the history that it did or I never would have used it. I had no ill intention when I was using it, but that's absolutely no excuse because intent doesn't excuse ignorance."

What To Know
Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper brought up the topic during her conversation with Espinal, who won the hit reality TV series alongside Bryan Arenales on Sunday.
"A huge moment this season was when Cierra abruptly left the villa. Can you talk to me just from your perspective as an Islander, what went down?" Cooper asked.
"Dude, literally we all started the morning together, and then out of nowhere, she did disappear, and we all were just asking, where was Cierra?" Espinal said. "I remember asking, I was like, 'Do you guys know where Cierra went?' And then same thing with Nic [Vansteenberghe]. I was like, 'Nic, where's Cierra?' We all genuinely did not know. So we did not get the chance to say goodbye."
"We weren't able to see her pack her bags. It literally just happened in the flash of an eye. It felt very unreal in a way. Like what is going on?" the fan-favorite added.
"Where were you guys when she clearly went and packed her bags?" Cooper asked, to which Espinal replied: "We were all in the villa. We literally were all just hanging out."
"You were like outside?" questioned Cooper.
"Outside. And she was gone."
When Espinal was asked how she felt about the situation, she said that "words matter."
"Everyone should be respected. I just hope that she learns from her consequences. You know, she is a grown woman, so hopefully moving on forward, it's just like, this should not be repeated," she said.

What People Are Saying
Bachelorette star Jenn Tran on TikTok on July 4: "Obviously, there's been a lot of stuff circulating online about Cierra and her racist C-slur that she said on her Instagram. First of all, I know that girl is not living under a rock, so she knows she shouldn't be using that word. There's no excuse for it. That's, like, first and foremost. I know there are certain words that I can't use because of the negative connotation that goes behind it, and I choose to be a good person and not offend other people. Simple.
"Secondly, the way in which she even used the word. The post that she made was of her referring to her eyes and how she had to get Botox because she didn't like the way she looked, because it was too C-wordy. And I hope to God this woman does not have a platform because the fact she felt that was OK to say just makes me so upset."
Ortega's Love Island USA co-star Belle-A Walker on Instagram on July 6: "As a proud Asian American woman, I'm deeply appreciative of the Love Island USA producers for taking a stand and making it clear that racism of any kind is not tolerated.
"When I first saw what my fellow Islander said on their social media pages, I was incredibly heartbroken. But I wanted to wait until they left the villa and were able to address the situation, genuinely apologize, and commit to learning from the experience before deciding how our relationship would look moving forward."
What Happens Next
The Love Island USA Season 7 reunion will take place on August 25 on Peacock.

Heroic NYC pups go up, up and away in adorable look-alike contest for Krypto from ‘Superman'

Every New Yorker's Kryptonite is a really cute dog. Dozens of heroic hounds soared to Hudson Yards Friday to compete in a Krypto the Superdog look-alike contest — but only one pooch took home the red cape fit for the sidekick of 'Superman.' Sofia, a 7-year-old Brooklyn canine who could have been Krypto's stunt double, easily took home the win and a $1,000 prize, but her owner said the victory didn't just come down to the pooch's good looks — she also embodies the superdog's protective spirit. Advertisement 4 Sofia won the Krypto look-alike contest after impressing judges with her facial expressions. Matthew McDermott 'She's always looking out for the other dogs, she's never starting fights, she likes to make everyone feel included,' said Meredith Amspoker, who found out about the contest hosted by Pumpkin Pet Insurance through a friend. Amspoker often gets stopped in the street while walking Sofia, but since 'Superman' came out, it's happening a lot more frequently. Advertisement 'Even while I was on my way here, someone said, 'That looks like the dog from 'Superman,'' the supedog mom said. Sofia was stoic, cape flapping in the wind, as smaller dogs came to sniff her rear end. She stole the judge's hearts when she managed to lift one ear at a time and tilt her head, shooting them an adorable glance. 4 There's been a surge in dog adoptions since Krypto dazzled audiences in the new 'Superman' flick. ©Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection 4 Pooches donned capes and collars to compete for the title in the look-alike contest. Matthew McDermott Advertisement 'I think she's got a lot of personality in her ears, and she's got that little face. She's a superdog,' Amspoker said. Not all of the 50 competing canines resembled Superman's loyal sidekick, but their doting owners weren't deterred from showing off their buddies' superhero qualities. Some pooches were even awarded for it — including little Jeffrey, who was named runner-up for the least Krypto look-alike. 4 Ed Medina and Jeffrey. Matthew McDermott Advertisement His owner, Ed Medina, 72, said the small, spotted dog is still a hero in his eyes for one simple reason. 'Jeffrey keeps me happy,' said Medina, who wore a jersey with his pup's face plastered on the back, before feeding Jeffrey four treats in a row. Mallorie Sievert, a 23-year-old actress, dragged three of her friends from across Manhattan to watch the cute contest. 'Krypto is so ugly, and I love ugly dogs, and so I was like, 'I have to come and see all the crusty white dogs show up and show out,' she explained. While at college, Sievert started an Instagram account, taking pictures of dogs across campus. She's delighted that the competition included dogs that don't look like Krypto, so she was certain the plaza would be full of pooches. 'I love New York City, because where else is there going to be an event where you see 50 dogs in capes!'

Jimmy Kimmel slams CBS for axing Stephen Colbert's show

ABC's Jimmy Kimmel slammed CBS on Thursday for ending 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.' 'Love you Stephen. F— you and all your Sheldons CBS,' Kimmel, the host of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' wrote in a Thursday post on his Instagram story. The network announced on Thursday that the show will conclude in May 2026 after 33 years on the air. Paramount said the decision to scrap the show was 'purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.' But the programming change comes after Colbert, a vocal critic of President Trump, slammed the network for giving the president a ' big fat bribe ' via a $16 million settlement over former Vice President Harris's interview with '60 minutes' during the 2024 campaign. 'CBS should terminate his contract and pick almost anyone, right off the street, who would do better, and for FAR LESS MONEY,' Trump said of Colbert last year. Other late night hosts rallied behind Colbert after news of the cancellation broke. 'For as great a comedian and host he is, @stephenathome is an even better person,' Seth Meyers, the host of NBC's 'Late Night' wrote in a post on his Instagram story. 'I'm going to miss having him on TV every night but I'm excited he can no longer use the excuse that he's 'too busy to hang out' with me,' he added. NBC's 'The Tonight Show' host Jimmy Fallon also expressed his support for Colbert. 'I really thought I'd ride this out with him for years to come. I'm sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30,' Fallon wrote on Instagram. 'But honestly, he's really been a gentleman and a true friend over the years — going back to 'The Colbert Report,' and I'm sure whatever he does next will be just as brilliant,' he added.

Victoria Beckham ‘worried' family feud will ‘ruin' their holiday card: report

If you want to be in this family, you've got to do the holiday card. Victoria Beckham is reportedly concerned about her beloved family tradition amid rumors of an ongoing rift with her sons. A source told Us Weekly that the Spice Girls singer, 51, and David Beckham's oldest son, Brooklyn, 26, is still not speaking to his brothers, Romeo, 22, and Cruz, 20. Due to the alleged tension, the insider shared that Victoria is 'very worried' Brooklyn won't be in this year's family holiday card. AbacaPress / Another source noted that Brooklyn believes that 'mending fences is what should be important, not the optics of a Christmas card.' The longstanding feud seemingly started during Brooklyn and Peltz's 2022 wedding, when Victoria allegedly made the bride cry by hijacking the newlyweds' first dance. The couple still follows David and Victoria. A source also told the outlet that 'Brooklyn and Nicola didn't purposely unfollow the siblings' and suggested that it's possible the brothers blocked them. 'I've avoided speaking on this topic to avoid adding fuel to the fire, however it's come to a point where I feel the need to address it so I can move on,' Turnbull, 24, wrote on her Instagram Story. 'I will not continue to receive harassment or be embarrassed on the basis of lies, to fit a certain narrative.' 'I have never been romantically involved in ANY capacity at ANY point with the person in question,' the DJ added. 'It was mutual. It was just too much pressure and tension looming over them.' Advertisement 'It put a lot of strain on them and there was no path forward,' they added. 'It was unfortunate that it got to that point, but family comes first for Romeo.' 'The fact is that Kim has got a really busy career as a DJ and Romeo has a busy work life too,' the insider shared. 'There is lots of traveling for both of them, so having a relationship at this time isn't all that conducive to their lives.' 10 Nicola Peltz and Victoria Beckham. nicolaannepeltzbeckham/Instagram Advertisement However, David and Victoria allegedly remain 'hopeful' that Romeo's split from Turnbull will bring the family back together.
