It's official: the greatest art deco building in the world is in London
An entire century later, art deco's glamourous craftmanship, bold geometric shapes and opulent colours are as admired as ever. To mark the style's big one-oh-oh, last week Time Out published a list of the world's greatest art deco buildings, enlisting the expertise of art deco aficionado Dominic Lutyens.
The list totalled nine buildings around the world, with Lutyens highlighting structures like New York's Chrysler Building, Miami's Art Deco Historic District and Mumbai's Eros Cinema. Also making the cut, however, were buildings from London. A total of three London art deco structures featured in Lutyens' top nine – including top spot.
Proclaimed the greatest art deco building in the world was, drum roll please… The Daily Express Building on Fleet Street. The Grade II*-listed site, which was designed by Ellis & Clarke in 1932, features a tiered façade made mostly of vitrolite (a kind of opaque plastic glass).
Lutyens writes that the outside is 'adorned only by gleaming, slimline chrome bands forming a subtle grid', but the inside is far more glam. 'Its lobby is sumptuously decorated', he says, picking out highlights such as steel furniture designed by Betty Joel and gold and silver murals by sculptor Eric Aumonier.

London was the only city in the ranking to boast more than one entry. The next highest placing structure was Eltham Palace, with the southeast London house placing sixth. Last from London to make the list was the Hoover Building in ninth. The Grade II* listed west London building was designed by Wallis, Gilbert and Partners and opened in 1933 as the UK headquarters of The Hoover Company. It's since been converted into apartments.

It comes with a thin Dexter beef patty topped by melted cheese, burger sauce, finely minced onion and a generous heap of sweet pickles, all packed inside a glossy brioche bun. According to Leonie, 'you'll be swooning after the first mouthful'. Then, in at number three is an absolute whopper – the colossal meaty bun from Dove. There are only 10 of these burgers served at the Ladbroke Grove restaurant each day. The thick 50-day dry aged beef patty is covered with silky onions that have been cooked in champagne and butter and a pungent blanket of gorgonzola. The South American city named one of the world's best for nightlife in 2025
Nightlife has changed a lot over the last couple of years, but our cities know a thing or two about adapting – just check out Time Out's brand-new ranking of the best cities in the world for going out. Las Vegas was our crowning champion for 2025, and Madrid stole the crown as the first-place entry in Europe, but, we obviously couldn't overlook the esteemed, colourful nightlife culture of South America, and one city from the continent made its way into our roundup, too. The city in question? It was (drum roll, please!) Medellín, Colombia 's brilliant second city, which ranked in place number 18 on our worldwide list. While there are larger, more world-renowned cities in South America which you might have expected to rank (Rio and Buenos Aires, we're looking at you), Medellín's success at claiming a spot alongside nightlife heavyweights like Vegas, Berlin and Mexico City is down to its affordability. Our survey spoke to more than 18,500 locals worldwide, and residents of Medellín commended how inexpensive a place it is to go out, with 80 percent saying clubbing is budget-friendly and 72 percent saying the same about entertainment. So, where should you be heading after dark? Well, local expert Luis Gomez says: 'You'll find more world-famous bars and clubs on one street in Medellín than you would find in many cities. Carrera 35 in Medellín's Provenza area is home to legendary basement club Perro Negro – yes, the same Perro Negro from the eponymous Bad Bunny and Feid song – as well as new spots owned by fellow reggaeton stars Karol G (El Callejón del Gato) and Maluma (903).' And if you fancy something a little more low-key, Somos De Calle and El Faro C13 in Comuna 13 are two solid spots to check out.

Capture Bangkok - A celebration of the city we love
The doors to The Corner House are officially open, and our Capture Bangkok exhibition is finally here for all to see, on display until August 20. This journey began back in January, when Bangkok was named the second-best city in the world in a Time Out global survey. That immense sense of pride and optimism sparked an idea: to celebrate our city in the most authentic way we knew how – through a street photography exhibition that could capture its true, unfiltered soul. Within weeks, we had assembled 10 of the city's top street photographers and invited them to simply… capture Bangkok. We followed them with our own camera crew through bustling markets, abandoned buildings, and even a snake farm, learning their unique philosophies and techniques. Inspired by their work, we then invited you, our readers, to pick up a camera. The response was incredible, with thousands of photo submissions of such high quality that we felt duty-bound to create a special category for 10 runner-ups alongside our grand prize winner.
