Full closure of Parkway East scheduled for this weekend

CBS News05-08-2025
If you're driving the Parkway East this weekend, heads up. There will be a full closure in Pittsburgh and Edgewood.
PennDOT on Tuesday announced that I-376 will close in each direction between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange from 9 p.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday. The shutdown will be in place around the clock as crews demolish and replace an overhead sign structure.
Traffic westbound will be detoured at the Wilkinsburg interchange and traffic eastbound will be detoured through the Forbes Avenue/Oakland exit. The full detours can be found on PennDOT's website.
The work, which began last summer, is part of a $95 million project to replace the Commercial Street Bridge between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange. PennDOT said it'll be one of the largest lateral slide projects performed in Pennsylvania.
Last year, crews temporarily relocated Commercial Street and the Nine Mile Run Trail below the bridge and moved sanitary sewer lines. This year's work includes installing new sign structures and piers, abutments and piles. Crews will need multiple closures to perform the work, including a 25-day full closure and detour in 2026.
The project is expected to be complete in the summer of 2027.
PennDOT has created an email distribution list for Parkway East traffic advisories and construction updates so drivers can stay informed. People who want to join the list can email ymanyisha@pa.gov with the subject line "Subscribe – Parkway East." Updates can also be found online.

Viktor Orban's Grip on Hungary Is Slipping With No Help From Trump

Dressed in beige shorts and a blue shirt, Viktor Orban's chief challenger rolled into Debrecen on a scooter and stopped on a patch of grass close to the giant battery plant under construction for China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Peter Magyar, the leader of Hungary's opposition Tisza party, wasn't in the eastern city to view the €7.3 billion ($8.4 billion) project so much as to make common cause with those who oppose it.

Delays expected in Stockton as major construction project begins on Benjamin Holt Drive

Heavy equipment is tearing up the ground along Benjamin Holt Drive in Stockton. It'll be a sight and sound familiar to the area for at least the next three months as crews ramp up construction on three major projects along the same busy stretch. "That street is in horrible condition," Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi said. "The one thing we've heard from residents over and over again is, 'When are you going to fix these streets? When are you going to resurface them?' Well, this is going to go through an entire resurface in that stretch." The nearly two-mile construction project along Ben Holt Drive runs through both county and city limits. Because of this, they are working together to make this project as smooth as possible. "We're trying to be better and proactive to collectively get out there and tell the citizens what's happening and when it's happening," District Two Supervisor Paul Canepa shared. "We've been doing outreach on not only the water main ones, but as far as sending out little texts telling people, 'Hey, we're closing the road, and this is what the timeline is.'" San Joaquin County is working to resurface the portion from Plymouth Road to Gettysburg Place, but not before it replaces the water main underground from Pershing Avenue to Gettysburg Place. The city of Stockton is responsible for the street resurfacing from Grigsby Place to Plymouth Road around and underneath Interstate 5. "For longevity purposes, the only thing you can really do to improve the street is a resurfacing where you grind it down and put a fresh layer of asphalt," Fugazi explained. "Not just one, you put several layers so you don't have to worry as much about cracking and potholes." While months of lane closures and loud construction work may not sound great to neighbors, they are excited to eventually drive on a road that is pothole-free. "Where we are, you know, right here in the Pershing, Lincoln Center area, it's pretty good," Stockton resident Mike Downing said. "When you get over by I-5, it was definitely a little patchy and a little rough going over there, so I'm glad that they're taking care of it." The next temporary intersection closure will happen at Pershing Ave and Ben Holt Dr, starting Saturday at 8 a.m. to Sunday at 8 p.m. Construction for all three projects will wrap up by the end of the year, hopefully by November.

Vishay Intertechnology Introduces Miniature, Sealed, Industrial-Grade Multi-Turn SMD Cermet Trimmers for Harsh Environments

Offered in Compact 4 mm x 4 mm Footprint, Space-Saving Devices Feature IP67 Sealing and High Temperature Operation to +140 °C MALVERN, Pa., Aug. 13, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today introduced a new series of industrial-grade, multi-turn, surface-mount cermet trimmers. Designed for space-constrained applications in harsh environments, the Vishay Sfernice TSM41 series devices combine a compact 4 mm by 4 mm footprint with a wide temperature range of -55 °C to +140 °C and IP67 sealing. Compared to previous-generation devices, the trimmers released today offer a 42 % smaller case size, allowing designers to save board space and optimize package density. In addition, the TSM41 series allows for fine-tuning of its wide 10 Ω to 1 MΩ resistance range, and a faster setting-to-time ratio than single-turn trimmers. Offering a 0.25 W power rating at +85 °C, the devices are available in both top and side adjustment styles, providing flexibility for various design requirements. The TSM41 series can be mounted directly to the PCB, allowing for automated PCB assembly and setting processes — enhancing production efficiency to save time and lower costs — while enabling the components to be placed on both sides of the board. Fully sealed to withstand standard board wash processing, the trimmers ensure reliability in welding equipment, power tools, smoke detectors, and heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. Samples and production quantities of the TSM41 series are available now, with lead times of 15 weeks.
