KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- KPJ Healthcare Berhad today launched AiNNOVATION 2025, a four-day public showcase focused on healthcare innovation and wellness engagement, at 1 Utama Shopping Centre.
KPJ Healthcare President and Managing Director Chin Keat Chyuan said the event reflects how the Group is adapting to current needs by embedding innovation into every aspect of its operations.
'AiNNOVATION is more than just an event. It offers a glimpse into how KPJ Healthcare is evolving with the times, investing in digital capabilities, nurturing future talent, and embedding innovation into how we work and serve.
'We believe innovation must serve a clear purpose. It must lead to better outcomes for patients, better tools for clinicians and better access for communities,' he said in a statement today.
The event was officiated by Selangor Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who represented Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Centred on the theme 'Driving Innovation and Inclusivity Through AI', the event highlights KPJ Healthcare's commitment to enhancing patient care through technology under its Care for Life vision.
The event features a Patient Journey Booth offering an interactive experience that showcases how technology supports every stage of care from pre-admission to recovery. Highlights include AI-assisted diagnostics, robotic rehabilitation, digital health records, and smart hospital systems.
Other activities include free health screenings, Zumba sessions, wellness games, robotics challenges for children, cooking demonstrations, and giveaways.
'The showcase also involves participation from KPJ's network of hospitals, KPJ Healthcare University, KPJ Research & Innovation Centre, and the Malaysia International Healthcare (MIH) Megatrends 2025 team, underscoring the Group's integrated approach to delivering future-ready care,' he said.

Mobile app to streamline fuel subsidy distribution for fishermen
BACHOK: The government is developing a mobile application to facilitate the distribution of subsidised fuel to fishermen nationwide, said Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil. He said the app, which is expected to be operational by the end of this year, will replace the personal digital assistant (PDA) devices currently in use. "At present, fishermen rely on PDAs to obtain fuel subsidies, but these devices are outdated and frequently malfunction. "With the new app, the process will be much simpler, allowing eligibility checks and fuel quota details to be accessed directly via mobile phones," he told reporters after officiating the LKIM Rahmah Mesra Programme with Bachok fishermen at the Portable Container System (PCS) site in Pantai Baru Bachok here today. He said the app will also enable real-time monitoring and auditing, helping to curb any potential misappropriation. "Through this app, we will be able to monitor fishermen's performance, including the declaration of their catch. "So far, nearly 40,000 fishermen nationwide are eligible for fuel subsidies, with the amount depending on the type of boat used," he added. On the PCS facility, Muhammad Faiz said the initiative has resolved difficulties faced by fishermen in accessing fuel supplies. "To date, seven PCS units are operational nationwide. We also plan to set up another in Perlis, one in Terengganu, and three in Sabah in the near future," he said. Meanwhile, Muhammad Faiz said LKIM is committed to enhancing youth participation in the fisheries sector to ensure its long-term sustainability. He said only 30 per cent of the 112,000 registered fishermen nationwide are under the age of 40 - a figure that needs to be improved. "LKIM plans to launch a programme to produce local young boat skippers soon, as the industry currently depends heavily on skippers from Thailand. "With modern fishing equipment and support systems, I believe today's tech-savvy youth can be drawn to the sector," he said. Earlier, he presented mock cheques worth a total of RM250,000 to five recipients under the Young Agropreneur Programme for the purchase of boat engines, as part of efforts to support youth involvement in the sector. – Bernama

Melaka Teen Violence Underscores Urgent Need For School Mental Health Support
Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- A recent violent incident in Melaka involving a 17-year-old student, suspected of killing his mother and elder brother and seriously injuring his younger brother, has raised concerns and prompted calls for stronger mental health support for youth. Mental Health Promotion Advisory Council member Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the heartbreaking case highlights gaps in the country's support systems, as initial reports indicate the incident stemmed from long-standing domestic tensions, including possible academic stress. 'Mental health struggles, especially among adolescents, are real. Depression, anxiety, emotional isolation and unprocessed anger can fester when left undetected,' he said in a statement today. Lee noted that school counsellors are often overstretched or unavailable, while parents are typically untrained to detect signs of distress. He added that many young people suppress their emotions for fear of judgment or punishment. He urged the Education Ministry to strengthen school counselling infrastructure by ensuring every school is staffed with trained professionals in adolescent psychology. He also proposed implementing emotional literacy programmes to help students cope, reflect and seek support when overwhelmed. Lee further called on the Health Ministry and the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry to work together to build accessible and non-stigmatised mental health services across both urban and rural areas. 'Mobile units, school-linked referral pathways and youth-friendly clinics should be scaled up,' he added. He also stressed the need for national campaigns to educate caregivers and teachers about emotional intelligence, respectful communication and recognising early warning signs. 'Let us be clear, violence is never acceptable. But silence and inaction, too, can be dangerous. If this tragedy becomes the catalyst for deeper conversations and decisive reforms around youth mental health, then perhaps we can prevent future loss before grief becomes the only language left,' he said. Malaysia To Contact Iran For Route Through Strait Of Hormuz Remain Open
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan will contact his Iranian counterpart, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, to request that the crucial oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) export route through the Strait of Hormuz remain open. He said that if the strait were to be closed, it could disrupt oil trade routes from the Middle East, leading to a global oil shortage and pushing up prices in the international market. 'There are rumours that Iran may close the supply route in the Strait of Hormuz, which serves as the gateway to the Iran-Oman border, a move that could potentially affect the global oil supply chain. 'This will cause serious complications for the world because a lot of oil supplies come from that area, especially from Iran and Qatar, so we hope that this will not be done and I will try to contact my Iranian counterpart, Araghchi, tonight or tomorrow, to think about it,' he told reporters after opening the Cheras UMNO Delegates' Meeting here today. He said that while Malaysia understands Iran's current position and the tense situation it faces, the country also bears a responsibility to the international community and the smooth flow of global trade. The global market, he added, is closely watching developments in the Strait of Hormuz, amid growing concerns that the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran could disrupt shipping traffic through the narrow and strategic passage. According to a report by Anadolu Agency, the Strait of Hormuz, located between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, is a vital sea route, with about a third of global oil trade, or 17 to 20 million barrels of crude oil and condensate, passing through it every day. About 70 per cent of that amount was sent to Asia, including China, Japan, India, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Pakistan and the Philippines, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). Meanwhile, Mohamad said the Foreign Ministry had issued a statement asking Malaysians in Iran, Iraq and Jordan to contact the Malaysian embassy in the respective country.
