The New York Yankees entered Boston riding high, having just completed a dominant sweep of the Royals. But by the time they trudged out of Fenway Park on Sunday, they had endured a weekend to forget.
The Boston Red Sox not only handed them a 2-0 loss on Father's Day but completed a sweep that left the Yankees without a single lead in the entire series.

'But it's why teams don't win 120 games. We're really good. I think that's going to continue to show itself.'
Boone's optimism couldn't mask what had been a glaring issue over the weekend—an offense that simply didn't show up. After lighting up the scoreboard at home, the Yankees mustered just four runs across three games at Fenway. It marked the team's first sweep of the season in 23 series played.

'Just couldn't really get anything going,' said Aaron Judge, who went 1-for-12 in the series. 'Here, we just couldn't string those couple at-bats together and drive some runs across.'
Judge's lone hit, a ninth-inning homer on Friday, was also the Yankees' only run against Boston starters across 21⅓ innings pitched. His struggles culminated in an 0-for-4 outing on Sunday that included a momentum-killing double play in the eighth.
And then there were the baserunning blunders—Ben Rice was caught stealing in the third inning on Sunday in a critical spot, echoing the previous night's mistake when Jasson Domínguez was caught unaware between second and third.
'Especially when you're playing the Red Sox, you always want to put your best foot forward,' Boone said. 'They took us down this weekend, back-to-back weekends.'
Even Max Fried, typically the Yankees' go-to stopper, couldn't prevent the sweep. His solid seven-inning, two-run effort was wasted by an offense that remained silent. The Yankees now return to New York, thankful that another Red Sox series won't arrive until August.
'Long season,' Boone said. 'We get home [Monday] and start anew and hopefully get the bats going and have a big home stand.'
