Security guard held for alleged hospital parking extortion
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have classified as extortion, a parking incident involving a security guard and a woman that went viral on social media at a hospital in Selangor on Dec 23 last year.
Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said in the 4 pm incident, the victim, a local woman, claimed that the security guard had extorted RM50 cash belonging to her mother, allegedly stemming from a parking dispute on the hospital grounds.
'A 55-second video of the incident, uploaded by a TikTok user on May 19, sparked various reactions and outrage from the public regarding the security guard's behaviour,' he said in a statement.
The local security guard allegedly took advantage of visitors parking in unauthorised spots by demanding money and making harsh threats.
He added that the 31-year-old victim filed a police report on May 19 at about 11.27 pm.
'Following the report, the 28-year-old security guard was arrested on the same day and is now remanded for two days until tomorrow to assist in the investigation,' he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

Pensioner loses over RM100,000 to scam syndicate
TANGKAK: A 58-year-old female pensioner lost RM108,520 to a scam syndicate. Tangkak police chief Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said the woman claimed it all started on May 9 when she was contacted by two men, one of them claiming to be an officer from the Communications and Multimedia Commission and the other, who claimed to be a police officer. He said the woman was told that she was wanted in a fraud case involving investments and non-existent loans, and to transfer the money in her account to a given bank account to facilitate investigations of the case. 'The woman did as was told and transferred her money, in 16 transactions, to two given bank accounts, suspected to be ' mule accounts,'' he said in a statement today. Roslan said the woman lodged a police report yesterday, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. He also advised the public who are victims of fraud to immediately contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 as an initial action to block the outflow of money from the suspect's account.

Woman charged with abusing niece
CHUKAI: A restaurant operator was charged in the Sessions Court here with abusing her cousin's daughter. The 52-year-old woman pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Sessions Court judge Wan Suhaila Mohd. According to the charge, the woman, who had custody of the 15-year-old girl, is alleged to have neglected and caused physical injuries to the teenager. The offence was allegedly committed at 5.30pm at a restaurant in Binjai near here between March and May 22, Bernama reported. She was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides a fine of up to RM50,000, a jail term of up to 20 years, or both upon conviction.
