MLB reveals 2025 All-Star week uniforms, but players won't wear them during All-Star Game
MLB All-Star week uniforms were revealed Monday, but with a twist. While the league will have All-Star jerseys, player won't actually wear them during the All-Star Game.
For the first time since 2019, players will wear their primary home and road uniforms during the All-Star Game. Instead of donning an "American League" jersey, New York Yankees star Aaron Judge will don the pinstripes at the game.

So, why introduce All-Star uniforms at all? Players will don the 2025 All-Star week jerseys during the Home Run Derby.
The league unveiled both jerseys and caps Monday. They use the same lettering seen on Atlanta Braves uniforms. The Braves are hosting the All-Star Game in 2025.
While the caps feature the upper-case "A," most MLB fans will recognize, some fans might be less familiar with the lower-case "a" featured on the jerseys. The Braves used a lower-case "a" logo from 1972 to 1986. The team has donned throwback jerseys featuring the lower-case "a" logo in recent seasons.

Wrigley Field security upgrades advance — and an MLB All-Star Game in Chicago could follow
Wider sidewalks and new security bollards could soon come to Wrigley Field after aldermen advanced a ballpark security plan Monday. But the new $32.1 million package set to face a final City Council vote Wednesday could bring far more than added safety to the Friendly Confines. Wrigleyville Ald. Bennett Lawson, 44th, hopes the security upgrades funded by a mix of team, city and state money will also help the Cubs land a Major League Baseball All-Star Game. MLB has long requested the improvements in All-Star game discussions, Lawson said. 'The city saw the need to do our part, and the state of course, to facilitate that,' Lawson said late last month. 'I'll let MLB and the Cubs share more details on that news when it happens.' In addition to security bollard installation, the plan that advanced unanimously in the City Council's Zoning Committee Monday would widen sidewalks on Addison Street by four feet and settle a land dispute between the team and the city over a Waveland Avenue parking lot by moving fencing to widen a narrow alleyway. And to pay for the deal, the state plans to pay $12 million, the city will chip in up to $10 million and the team will cover an $8 million chunk, plus any cost overruns and long-term maintenance work. Chicago Cubs deny report that All-Star Game is headed to Wrigley Field in 2027: 'No decision has been made'Lawson called the plan the 'final piece' of Wrigley Field's gradual redevelopment. The wider sidewalks and bollards will provide 'a little bit of breathing room' for fans walking around the ballpark and loading onto buses, he said. 'Day-to-day operations, this helps improve the security in the area,' Lawson said. 'And my understanding is it does factor in when MLB is considering the All-Star game.' Lawson said he has heard 'nothing official' about the game coming to Chicago, but added that he thinks investments by the team's owners, the Ricketts family, should put the team in line for the baseball festivities. Ricketts family spokesperson Dennis Culloton said that even though the likely-to-come security upgrades might help check off a final box to land an all-star game, the plan is 'about one thing and one thing only,' public safety. 'Making the community safer is important to the entire city,' he said. 'It's beneficial for more than just a baseball game.' Cubs spokesperson Jennifer Martinez-Roth said the plan 'would mean enhanced safety around the ballpark, which is important to us, our fans and visitors alike.' Asked about the potential of an all-star game, she said, 'While we are hopeful, MLB has not made a decision.' League officials typically announce where future all-star games will be played in July, around the same time as the all-star weekend unfolds each year. The team has long sought to bring the game to Chicago, and their push has played out everywhere from radio reports to the mayor's phone in the last year. In February 2024, Mayor Brandon Johnson got a text from his business community liaison Charles Smith letting the mayor know Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts wanted a meeting, according to records obtained by the Tribune via the Freedom of Information Act. 'Also about all star game – I think it's pretty much a done deal,' Smith, vice chair of World Business Chicago, texted Johnson, a lifelong fan of the North Siders. Last month, it seemed the stars had finally aligned for the team and city when WSCR-AM 670 reported the MLB awarded the 2027 All-Star Game to the Cubs. But the team quickly denied the report from their flagship radio station, telling the Tribune 'no decision has been made.'

Mets' Francisco Lindor leads NL shortstops in first 2025 MLB All-Star Game voting update
The 2025 MLB All-Star Game is just under a month away, and for the first time in his time with the Mets, Francisco Lindor appears primed to make the National League's starting lineup. With the first phase of initial voting update out, Lindor has received 1,019,273 votes, nearly double the number of the next closest shortstop, Los Angeles Dodgers' Mookie Betts (597,188). Advertisement Lindor – with 13 doubles, 14 home runs, and a .279/.353/.475 slashline for an .828 OPS – is the lone Mets position player to be in first for their position. Juan Soto is closest to grabbing a starting spot, as he is fourth among outfielders with 625,618 votes, behind the Chicago Cubs' duo of Pete Crow-Armstrong (1,126,119) and Kyle Tucker (704,740) and Los Angeles's Teoscar Hernández (685,553). Pete Alonso (895,900) is also close on the heels of the Dodgers' Freddie Freeman (1,136,389) to be the NL's starter at first base. While the fan voting is a popularity contest and not always necessarily about statistics, it is tough to find much distance between Alonso and Freeman. Advertisement Entering Monday night New York's slugger has 22 doubles, 17 home runs, and 63 RBI with a .293/.390/.579 slashline for a .960 OPS (174 OPS+ and 169 wRC+). LA's man has 21 doubles, nine home runs, and 41 RBI with a .336/.409/.558 slash line for a .967 OPS (173 OPS+ and a 168 wRC+). What about the Yankees? No surprise for the team from The Bronx: Aaron Judge received the most votes for any player in the majors and has more than double the votes for any AL outfielder with 1,568,527. (He is 169,756 votes ahead of Shohei Ohtani for the most votes overall.) Even after a rough series in Boston, the reigning MVP has done nothing but prove to be one of the most feared hitters in the game as he has 17 doubles, 26 home runs, and 60 RBI, with a .378/.473/.756 slashline for a 1.228 OPS (238 OPS+ and 236 wRC+). Advertisement The Yanks also have Paul Goldschmidt (667,258) in first place at first base, just ahead of Toronto's Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (615, 726). Ben Rice (232,331) is in second place for DH behind Baltimore's Ryan O'Hearn (353,029). First-year Yank Cody Bellinger (416,858) is in sixth place among outfielders, but just under 60,000 votes behind the Angels' Mike Trout (475,265), who occupies the third and final outfield slot. Jazz Chsicholm Jr. (250,416) is fourth for AL second baseman, which is currently led by ex-Yank and current Detroit Tiger Gleyber Torres (535,079). *** The player who winds up as the top vote-getter at each position before phase 1 of voting ends on June 26 will receive an automatic spot on the All-Star team, while the second-highest vote-getter at each position advances to phase 2 of voting (June 30-July 2). Advertisement The reserves and pitchers on the team will be determined by the player ballot, which means deserving Mets and Yankees can get in that way if they aren't voted in by the fans. Each team will have 32 players (20 position players and 12 pitchers, which includes at least three relievers). The game will take place at Truist Park in Atlanta on July 15.
