Midnight flag-hoisting to patriotic songs: Bengaluru soaks in the I-Day spirit

BENGALURU: Bengaluru is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to patriotism — Tricolours fluttered across the city, with schools dancing to 'Des Rangeela', a popular track from 2006 Bollywood flick 'Fanaa', and homes distributing sweets paired with heartfelt speeches on Friday. The roads saw lines of autorickshaws with big national flags fastened to them, driving around the city. While Tiranga yatras, NCC cadets, and school marching contingents added to the patriotic passion, maestro AR Rahman's 'Vande Mataram' playing loud and proud from school speakers reminded one of the respect and reverence deeply felt for the nation.
The celebrations began as early as midnight, with people gathering for traditional midnight Tricolour-hoisting ceremonies. Across the city, officials conducted flag-hoisting events and delivered brief speeches, recalling the sacrifices of freedom fighters. At the MG Railway Colony, DRM Ashutosh Kumar Singh hoisted the national flag and inspected the RPF and student parade.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid a wreath at the statue of Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna, while at Bharat Vidya Sansthan, Colonel MS Khaira (retd) and president Nirmal Kumar addressed students, reminding them that freedom comes with responsibility.
Educational institutions across the city also marked the day with enthusiasm. At IIIT-B, students, faculty and staff took part in cultural programmes and renewed their commitment through the 'Panch Pran' oath.
Cultural organisations and public art spaces also joined in the celebrations, hosting dance and music performances featuring young artists. Besides, several corporate firms lit up their offices in shades of the Tricolour, and are organising week-long activities to mark the occasion.

The Ba***ds Of Bollywood First Look: Aryan Khan's Smashing (And Crashing) Directorial Debut Has Shah Rukh Khan's Mohabbatein Reference

New Delhi: The much-awaited first look of Aryan Khan's directorial debut The Ba***ds Of Bollywood dropped today, and it's as bold, chaotic and self-aware as the title suggests. The teaser doesn't hold back and gives a glimpse into a world that blends satire, drama and stylised masala mayhem with Aryan himself walking straight into the frame, violin in hand, ready to upend expectations. The clip opens with Aryan walking through a romantic set-up, playing a violin. He then recites one of Shah Rukh Khan's most iconic lines from Mohabbatein: " Ek ladki thi deewani si, ek ladke pe vo marti thi, nazrein jhuka ke, sharma ke, galiyon se guzarti thi..." (There was a girl, a little crazy, who had a crush on a boy. With her eyes lowered and shy smiles, she would pass through the streets...). Up to that point, the tone is sweet and nostalgic until Aryan cuts in, twisting the narrative unexpectedly: " Aur achanak ek truck aaya aur usse kuchal gaya." (And suddenly, a truck came and ran her over). He adds with a smirk, " Thoda zyaada ho gaya na? Aadat daal lo kyuki mera show bhi thoda zyaada hai." (A bit too much, right? Get used to it because my show is also a bit too much). This irreverent twist introduces the lead actors, Lakshya and Sahher Bambba, who are glimpsed in quick flashes that follow - punchy fight sequences and classic Bollywood excess. There's romance, chaos, glittering red carpets and high-octane action. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Netflix India (@netflix_in) Aryan then teases the premise directly: "What my show is about? Bollywood," he says, before adding, "Jisse aapne saalon se pyaar bhi kiya aur vaar bhi kiya. Toh main bhi vahi karunga... bhut saara pyaar aur thoda sa vaar (The one you've loved for years, and also attacked for years. So I'll do the same... a lot of love and a little bit of war)." The teaser builds to a crescendo of slick visuals and intense action - and just when you think it's over, it ends the way it began: with a jolt. A truck hits Aryan Khan, closing the loop on his earlier darkly comic twist. The Ba***ds Of Bollywood is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and was officially announced on February 3, 2025. The show follows an ambitious outsider and his friends [as they] navigate the larger-than-life yet uncertain world of Bollywood. While the release date is yet to be announced, the show is co-created by Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan, who also share writing credits with Aryan. The series is also rumoured to feature cameos by actors like Bobby Deol and Ranbir Kapoor, among others. The preview will be released on August 20.

Rewriting the laws of romance

A searing romantic drama about identity, power, and the cost of love in the world we live in, Dhadak 2 initiates conversations not usually explored by mainstream Bollywood movies. The directorial debut by Shazia Iqbal is a remake of the Tamil movie Pariyerum Perumal and is getting a lot of critical praise. Actor Tripti Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi play the characters of two young law students who have to fight for their relationship. The original films which inspired Dhadak and Dhadak 2 were huge box office hits. Were you under any pressure when you took up the film? Tripti: It depends on how much pressure you take. Honestly, I don't take any pressure at all since it takes away the joy of acting. If you go on the sets with pressure, you won't be able to do justice to the character. From the first day itself, you have to have trust the director. What matters is that you go back home feeling happy and content. Siddhant: I call it a spiritual sequel. Somewhere, the essence is the same, but the world is different. That first one is a colourful film, but this is more gritty and intense; the tone is completely different. However, when we started doing this film, we always felt that we should raise the benchmark for this film. Sometimes sequels are made with an effect, but we wanted it to be better than the first one, with double impact. I think this film has it. I am confident that when you see the film, you will react.
