CM chairs meet on month-long cleanliness drive, asks officials to prepare action plan
The meeting was attended by Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood and the officials of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board and all other concerned departments.
The campaign titled 'Delhi's Freedom from Garbage – Cleanliness Drive' will be held from August 1 to 31. Gupta urged citizens to actively participate in the initiative, which will involve all government departments as well as Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), market associations, schools, and other institutions.
A dedicated online portal will also be launched for public engagement, allowing residents to upload 'before and after' photos of cleaned sites.
During the meeting, Gupta emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between departments, with participation from key agencies like the Municipal Corporation (MCD), PWD, NDMC, and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The cleanliness campaign will also target slum areas, unauthorised colonies and informal settlements to ensure waste collection is significantly higher than usual.
The chief minister highlighted that the drive would include special programs every Saturday and Sunday throughout August, aiming to cover government offices, hospitals, markets, bus terminals, and industrial zones.

Appealing to the people of Delhi, CM Gupta said that by participating, they would not only help free the city from garbage but also reinforce Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision that a nation can only become truly clean when every citizen accepts personal responsibility. She emphasised that cleanliness is not merely a government initiative but a civic duty.

Clash over municipal polls timelines: UDH, SEC at odds
1 2 Jaipur: A conflict appears to be brewing between the Urban Development and Housing (UDH) department and the State Election Commission (SEC) over the scheduling of the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in Rajasthan. The disagreement centers around the timeline for conducting the crucial municipal elections, with both parties presenting differing timelines. UDH minister Jhabar Singh Kharra affirmed Wednesday that all ULB elections would be held by Dec 2025, aligning with the state govt's 'One State One Election' policy. This policy aims to synchronise the elections for all ULBs, including those whose terms end in 2026, by the end of 2025. "By Sept, the govt plans to formally request the SEC to initiate the election-related processes to ensure that all ULB elections can take place in phases, culminating by Dec 15, 2025," said Kharra, while speaking to reporters at his residence on Bhagat Singh Marg here. Rajasthan currently has 190 ULBs or municipal bodies, with 139 having completed their five-year terms this year. The remaining bodies are set to conclude their terms in 2026, with 50 ULBs finishing by Jan and one in Feb. Kharra assured that new boards for the 139 ULBs would be formed by Dec 2025, while the final 51 ULBs would see new boards established by mid-January 2026. In contrast, SEC commissioner Madhukar Gupta reiterated his commitment to conducting the ULB and panchayat elections by Oct end. Gupta emphasised the SEC's obligation to comply with the Rajasthan High Court's orders to conduct the polls promptly. When questioned about minister Kharra's Dec timeline, Gupta maintained that the SEC would adhere to the high court's directives to conduct the elections 'soon'. "We will follow the directives of Rajasthan HC to conduct the polls at the earliest," Gupta told TOI Wednesday. On being further asked if he stands by his comment to conduct the polls within two months, Gupta said, "Yes, we will try to conduct the polls (within two months). " The disagreement has sparked concerns over the coordination between the UDH and the SEC, with both parties standing firm on their respective timelines. The situation remains tense as the state govt and SEC navigate the complexities of election scheduling, with the potential for further developments in the coming weeks. Adding to the confusion, minister Kharra avoided questions about the timing of panchayat elections, redirecting inquiries to Panchayati Raj minister Madan Dilwar, thereby suggesting a lack of clarity within the govt regarding the electoral schedule. Security to be reviewed, CM likely to get extra cover
New Delhi: Wednesday's attack on CM Rekha Gupta is likely to bring significant changes in her security set-up. The cover is being reviewed following the breach and it will be made more stringent after a threat assessment. An inquiry is also being conducted to determine the lapses and whether all protocols were in place. A joint commissioner-rank officer at the police headquarters has been assigned the probe, an officer said. Henceforth, the search-and-frisk staff may be asked to verify visitors prior to their appointment with CM so that no criminal element could come close to her. The man who attacked her on Wednesday was involved in multiple cases. An additional barricade or partition may also be placed to ensure her safety, sources said. Gupta is already provided with 45 personnel, including pilot escort, personal security officers, house guards, checking staff and woman commandos. This, sources said, is provided as per the norms laid down in Yellow Book, which prescribes the security cover for constitutional posts. An ACP-rank officer is the security in-charge while three inspectors run the apparatus in eight-hour shifts. There are also door-frame metal detectors at her residence and a senior liaison officer from the security unit of Delhi Police conducts regular checks. Former CMs Atishi and Arvind Kejriwal were also accorded Z+ security. Kejriwal also received additional protection with around 63 people guarding him following multiple attacks. Of them, 45-47 personnel were in his close protection team while 15 others were from Central Armed Police Force. In April 2014, an auto driver slapped Kejriwal in Sultanpuri. Two years later, in Jan 2016, a man threw ink on him while in April, another man hurled a shoe. In May 2019, he was targeted once again during a roadshow in Moti Nagar.
