Amanda Seyfried Just Confirmed 'Mamma Mia 3' Is On Its Way

Yahoo13-03-2025

When I saw Mamma Mia 2 in 2018, my life was changed. I didn't grow up on the original jukebox musical, but watching Lily James and Amanda Seyfried dance around Greece was exactly the kind of escapism I needed at 19 years old. I've been waiting for ever since (haven't we all?!), and while we've gotten a few updates here and there (creator and producer Judy Craymer told a third movie is in "earliest stages" in May of 2023), Amanda Seyfried just answered a major question fans have: why is the threequel taking so long?
Amanda Seyfried was asked about a Mamma Mia 3 ahead of the premiere for Long Bright River, which she stars in and executive produces.
"Show me the money!" she jokingly tells , before adding, "Producer Judy Craymer is always working on it, but Universal still has to release Wicked 2. The first Wicked had to stall when Mamma Mia! 2 was getting made."
"It's an either/or situation with musicals. And I have this theory that Universal just knows we're going to do it, so they're not in any rush," she continues. "And it's just going to cost double."
Hearing Amanda Seyfried say they're definitely making the movie is exactly what I needed to hear this week!
Since is coming out later this year (and Universal has no other musicals in the pipeline) that means Mamma Mia 3 could finally be on its way! If they filmed over the summer of 2026 and completed post-production in the winter, we could see the third movie as early as the spring of 2027.
Amanda Seyfried told that 'it's happening" and jokes that 'it's going to happen in Greece, hopefully before 2038."
"Ideally [filming] would be in summer 2026," she continues. "That's just my schedule. Everybody has to put their lives on hold.' And see, that's exactly what I said.
"I don't want to over-egg it," Judy Craymer told , "but I know there's a trilogy there…and I do think Meryl should come back, and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna."
And what does Meryl Streep think of the possible return to Donna Sheridan? "Of course I want to do it," . Let's get the band back together!
If you need me, I'll be singing ABBA's "Dancing Queen" all day. Read up on for more insight into these iconic musicals.

Florida man sues Universal over alleged malfunction of 'Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey' ride

The Brief A Florida man alleges Universal Orlando's Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride left him stranded midair, causing lasting injuries. The lawsuit claims the park ignored prior warnings and failed to act. Universal has not yet responded to the $50,000-plus complaint. ORLANDO, Fla. - A Florida man has filed a lawsuit seeking more than $50,000 in damages against Universal Orlando Resort, alleging he was injured during a ride malfunction. What we know A St. Johns County man has filed a lawsuit against Universal Orlando Resort, seeking more than $50,000 in damages. The suit stems from a July 2, 2023, incident involving the "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" ride. The plaintiff claims the ride came to a sudden halt, leaving him stranded in a tilted cart for approximately an hour before being repositioned. He alleges the malfunction resulted in injuries and emotional distress. What we don't know Universal Orlando has not yet issued a public response or comment on the allegations. It is unclear whether the park has conducted an internal investigation or made technical changes to the ride following the incident. There is also no information available about whether similar lawsuits have been filed or whether regulatory authorities were involved. The backstory According to the complaint, the ride was operating as intended when it unexpectedly stopped. The plaintiff argues that the ride has a history of issues and that Universal continued to run it despite known risks. The lawsuit alleges a failure to repair or warn about the potential for power-related stoppages, which the plaintiff claims were foreseeable and avoidable. Dig deeper Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is an indoor thrill ride at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure theme park and part of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The attraction includes robotic arm technology, motion simulation and 3D/4D imagery. Guests ride in secure seats attached to the robotic arm which pivots, drops, spins, and twists above its track. "Enter through the towering castle gates and make your way down the familiar passageways and corridors of Hogwarts™ School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Then soar above the castle grounds as you join Harry Potter™ and his friends on a thrilling adventure," Universal explains. "Groundbreaking, state-of-the-art technology (and a little magic) creates a one-of-a-kind ride." Universal has an identical ride at its parks in California, Japan, and China. Timeline The incident occurred on July 2, 2023. The plaintiff was allegedly stuck in the ride for nearly an hour that day. The legal complaint was filed in Orange County, Florida, on May 28, 2025. What they're saying The suit includes two counts: premises liability and general negligence. It argues that Universal breached its duty of care by failing to implement proper safety protocols, conduct timely inspections, maintain backup systems, and communicate warnings about ongoing risks — including rolling power outages. The plaintiff argues that this created "unreasonable risk of harm." Universal was "aware that the rollercoaster had similar problems in the past and failed to take adequate or reasonable steps to remedy this known problem," the complaint alleges. It further claims the theme park acted "with wanton, willful, and reckless disregard for the safety and health of the plaintiff," citing a profit motive for continuing to operate the ride despite the risks. As a result, the plaintiff claims he suffered "bodily injury, resulting in pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, scarring, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, expense of hospitalization, medical and nursing care and treatment, loss of earnings, loss of ability to earn money, damage to property, inconvenience, and aggravation of a previously existing condition. Such losses are either permanent or continuing in nature." As of Monday, June 2, 2025, Universal had not responded publicly. Cynthia Erivo Responds to Backlash Over Her Jesus Casting in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar' Musical

Cynthia Erivo has responded to the backlash she received for her upcoming lead role in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl. After it was announced earlier this year that the Wicked star would be playing Jesus in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's musical, some conservatives were quick to criticize her for taking the role as a Black queer woman. However, during a recent interview with Billboard, Erivo couldn't help but laugh at the negative response. 'You can't please everyone. It is legitimately a three-day performance at the Hollywood Bowl where I get to sing my face off. So hopefully they will come and realize, 'Oh, it's a musical, the gayest place on Earth.'' The actress will take to the stage at the famed Hollywood venue from Aug. 1-3, alongside Adam Lambert, who is set to play Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar. The musical is a rock opera that follows the final days of Jesus Christ, leading up to his crucifixion, seen through the eyes of his betrayer, Judas. The musical was initially a concept album before making its Broadway debut in 1971. It has also received several revivals over the years, as well as a film adaptation, directed by Norman Jewison, in 1973. Erivo, who won a Tony for her performance in Broadway's The Color Purple, has previously played Mary Magdalene in Morgan James' all-female version of the musical's concept album. The 'Wicked: For Good' trailer is coming to select theaters Wednesday

Grab your broomstick and your bestie: Wicked is returning to theaters on Wednesday, June 4, and it's bringing the trailer for Wicked: For Good along with it. The first part of the Broadway musical adaptation hit theaters on Nov. 22, 2024, to critical and commercial acclaim. The final half of the two-part film is slated to arrive in theaters almost exactly one year later, on Nov. 21, 2025. But the Wizard of Oz prequel, which stars Cynthia Erivo as 'Wicked Witch' Elphaba and Ariana Grande as the supposedly 'good' witch Glinda, is so highly anticipated that even the premiere of its trailer was announced alongside these special one-night screenings taking place in North American theaters this week. The screenings are scheduled to happen simultaneously across all U.S. time zones, so everyone can watch the trailer at the same time, no matter where they are. They're slated for this Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET, 5 p.m. CT, 4 p.m. MT, and 3 p.m. PT. After the live screenings, the trailer will be available for all to watch online. The Wicked screenings are not specific to any theater chain. You can look up screenings in your area here. Wicked: For Good picks up after Elphaba defied gravity on her broomstick and narrowly escaped the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) in order to save the animals subjugated by their tyrannical rule. Meanwhile, Elphaba's best friend, Glinda — afraid to give up her social status — chose to stay behind rather than join in on her mission. Wicked: For Good places Glinda and Elphaba on opposite sides of major drama in Oz, with Glinda — who is still dating prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) — acting as the Wizard's spokesperson. Meanwhile, the Wizard's henchmen are seeking to find and kill Elphaba, who all of Oz now considers 'wicked' thanks to good old-fashioned propaganda. How will this story end? Well, if you saw The Wizard of Oz, you probably think you know — with Dorothy and company dousing poor Elphie with water and killing her. Yet Wicked: For Good may surprise you — at least, if you haven't seen the musical.
