Premiere Date, Cast & More: What We Know About 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'

In 2006, the movie based on the novel of the same name, 'The Devil Wears Prada', premiered to the world and quickly became a success. The movie is a global phenomenon, making a lasting impact on pop culture. Twenty years later, the much-loved cult classic has confirmed its long-awaited sequel. In July 2024, there were reports that Walt Disney Studios was in the early stages of developing a sequel to 'The Devil Wears Prada'. A year later, the puzzle cheered over the good news that the movie is in the works! As fans prepare for the return of Miranda, Andy and more, here's what we've gathered about the sequel so far: The Movie Is Set To Premiere In May 2026 One recent update about the movie is that it's coming sooner than expected. After months of speculation, Disney confirmed that they have set the theatrical release date for the sequel for 1st May 2026. However, this date is for the US release, so international fans still have to wait to find out when (or if) the movie will be released in their respective countries. The Main Cast Reportedly Reprising Their Roles Of course, the movie wouldn't be complete without the iconic cast line-up. While nothing is confirmed, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt will reportedly reprise their roles as Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton. As for Stanley Tucci, there's still no news on whether he'll be back as Nigel Kipling, but fans are hopeful he'll also join the sequel. Fun fact: This could be Meryl's second time in a sequel, in all over her decades-long career. Notorious for never doing sequels, she had only reprised her role in 'Mamma Mia 2'. The Movie Might See Miranda Facing Off Against Emily While the book does have a sequel called 'Revenge Wears Prada', the movie version of the sequel won't be based on this new chapter. Instead, the upcoming movie reportedly follows Miranda as she navigates the challenges of the declining print publishing industry. Rumour has it that she will face off against Emily, who is now a high-powered executive for a luxury group that Miranda is eyeing for their advertising dollars. David Frankel Could Return To The Director's Chair The original 'The Devil Wears Prada' wouldn't have been a reality without the director, screenplay writer and producers. The great news is that writer Aline Brosh McKenna and producer Wendy Finerman will maintain their positions. Meanwhile, director David Frankel is in talks to helm the project again, but only time will tell if he's back in the director's chair. Sources: Variety, Vogue Arabia

Sabrina Carpenter tipped for Mamma Mia sequel but fans are fuming at one detail

A script is already been made for Mamma Mia 3 with Sabrina Carpenter heavily tipped to take on the lead role and despite being an ABBA mega fan, some fans aren't happy with the casting Pop superstar and multiple chart-topper Sabrina Carpenter has been tipped for an acting comeback as she takes on the lead role of the long-awaited Mamma Mia 3. The former Disney Channel star could follow in the footsteps of Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried and Lily James at the heart of the beloved franchise. And for fans eager to bring to an end the seven-year drought since the release of Mamma Mia 2, they may not have much longer to wait. The creator behind the original West End show and its two immensely popular movie spin-offs off Judy Cramer has revealed she has written a script and work for the ABBA-themed musical is once again in the works. ‌ Speaking to Deadline, the producer hinted at Carpenter's remarkable resemblance to both Seyfried and Streep's original character: "She'd be a goddess or some relation who would look very much like Meryl Streep," she said. "We know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen.' ‌ Although the plot of the film is still a closely-kept secret, many fans have taken to social media to voice their unhappiness at the potential casting and voiced their confusion due to the choice due to her lack of experience acting. 'This is another form of nepotism with the casting of Sabrina,' complained one on X, while another added: "I hate Hollywood because what do you mean she's playing her mother - they look like sisters!" ‌ Although despite the criticism, the casting does make sense in terms of music, it's clear that Carpenter has an incredible voice being behind some of the biggest hits of the last few years from Please, Please, Please to Espresso but the singer is also notoriously a huge ABBA fan. The 26-year-old already has practice singing some of the group's hits having previously performed some of their songs while on tour. The Swedish group even takes a spot as one of her most listened-to artists on Spotify and the singer named her two cats after the band's legendary Benny and Björn. She already seems to have the cast on her side. Amanda Seyfried who plays Sophie, one of the main characters in the first two films has previously spoken about casting Carpenter: "Old age make-up for me. If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I'll make it happen. It's fine. I'm a big fan," she said. A source close to the production added: 'There's a huge appetite for Sabrina in this next chapter. She has the charisma, the vocal chops, and the star power to take Mamma Mia into a new generation. She's also been embraced by fans across age groups - just like the ABBA hits themselves."

Amanda Seyfried Just Confirmed 'Mamma Mia 3' Is On Its Way

When I saw Mamma Mia 2 in 2018, my life was changed. I didn't grow up on the original jukebox musical, but watching Lily James and Amanda Seyfried dance around Greece was exactly the kind of escapism I needed at 19 years old. I've been waiting for ever since (haven't we all?!), and while we've gotten a few updates here and there (creator and producer Judy Craymer told a third movie is in "earliest stages" in May of 2023), Amanda Seyfried just answered a major question fans have: why is the threequel taking so long? Amanda Seyfried was asked about a Mamma Mia 3 ahead of the premiere for Long Bright River, which she stars in and executive produces. "Show me the money!" she jokingly tells , before adding, "Producer Judy Craymer is always working on it, but Universal still has to release Wicked 2. The first Wicked had to stall when Mamma Mia! 2 was getting made." "It's an either/or situation with musicals. And I have this theory that Universal just knows we're going to do it, so they're not in any rush," she continues. "And it's just going to cost double." Hearing Amanda Seyfried say they're definitely making the movie is exactly what I needed to hear this week! Since is coming out later this year (and Universal has no other musicals in the pipeline) that means Mamma Mia 3 could finally be on its way! If they filmed over the summer of 2026 and completed post-production in the winter, we could see the third movie as early as the spring of 2027. Amanda Seyfried told that 'it's happening" and jokes that 'it's going to happen in Greece, hopefully before 2038." "Ideally [filming] would be in summer 2026," she continues. "That's just my schedule. Everybody has to put their lives on hold.' And see, that's exactly what I said. "I don't want to over-egg it," Judy Craymer told , "but I know there's a trilogy there…and I do think Meryl should come back, and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna." And what does Meryl Streep think of the possible return to Donna Sheridan? "Of course I want to do it," . Let's get the band back together! If you need me, I'll be singing ABBA's "Dancing Queen" all day. Read up on for more insight into these iconic musicals.
