When Lingusamy revealed how Kamal Haasan's constant script changes turned Uttama Villain into a financial setback

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) In throwback revelation, director-producer Lingusamy shed light on the chaos that unfolded during the making of Uttama Villain. Speaking to veteran journalist Chithra Lakshmanan on the YouTube channel Touring Talkies, Lingusamy called Kamal Haasan a phenomenal artist but admitted that producing a film for him came at a steep cost, both creatively and financially. According to Lingusamy, the biggest challenge was Kamal's relentless script changes. 'We wanted something emotionally powerful, like Devar Magan or Apoorva Sagodharargal. Kamal sir initially pitched a compelling story about a man rescuing his brother—a role that Siddharth was supposed to play. But he kept rewriting the script almost every week,' Lingusamy said, admitting that while this unpredictable style had worked for Kamal in the past, it left his production house, Thirrupathi Brothers, gasping for stability. Despite entering a written agreement where Kamal promised to compensate by doing another film on a modest budget of ₹30 crore, Lingusamy said the damage had already been done. 'I was completely involved and invested in this film. But when you're footing the bill and the vision keeps shifting, it's hard to hold things together,' he said. Uthama Villain: Teaser He further revealed that he and co-producer Subhas Chandra Bose had plans to remake the Malayalam hit Drishyam. 'We showed the film to Kamal sir, hoping he would lead it, but he turned it down—only to later do it with another production house,' Lingusamy said, hinting at a sense of betrayal. When it came to the post-production process, Lingusamy claimed he did his best to steer the project back on track by suggesting changes after watching rough cuts. 'He agreed, but none of the suggestions were incorporated. In the end, he just told me to go ahead and release it,' he added. The matter resurfaced again when a YouTube channel, Valaipechu, claimed that Uttama Villain was a profitable venture. Thirrupathi Brothers quickly issued a sharp rebuttal on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle: 'A false claim about Lingusamy saying Uttama Villain was a profitable film was made on YouTube channel Valaipechu. This is highly condemnable. We request everyone not to spread false information on the internet.' While Kamal Haasan's brilliance as an artist is undisputed, Uttama Villain stands as a cautionary tale of how creative freedom without boundaries can sometimes derail even the most promising of films. "Need To Come Sit With Me...": Ricky Ponting's Epic Reply To Preity Zinta Question

One of the most successful captains of his time, Ricky Ponting is an icon in the global cricketing spectrum. Now a coach and mentor, Ponting played a pivotal role in Punjab Kings' qualification into the final of the IPL 2025 season. Though the franchise lost the title-decider to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Ponting's efforts received praise from all across the cricketing spectrum. However, there are certain traits of Ponting, the coach, that the franchise's co-owner, Preity Zinta, hasn't been able to understand. In a candid chat with the PBKS coach, Preity asked how someone like Ponting, who was so aggressive as a cricketer on the field, can be so calm in the dugout? "How does somebody be so aggressive on the ground and as a person, but be so calm and chilled out?," the actress asked. Ponting stumped Zinta with his reply, saying that it isn't actually the case. To experience this, she should come down from the stands and sit with him in the dugout. "You need to come and sit next to me in the dugout sometimes, because you will see that it's not always calm. Look, I'm an aggressive-natured person, especially when it's cricket time," the former Australia captain said. Ponting mentality - Train with passion, roar with aggression Don't miss the full video on our YouTube channel and app. — Punjab Kings (@PunjabKingsIPL) June 7, 2025 Ponting further delved into his personality as a coach, saying he intends to bring out the best version of himself as a coach and also help the players bring out their best every single time. "I'll have a laugh and a joke and a coffee and a sit down with anyone and talk about anything outside of cricket time. But when it's cricket time, it's my job to bring high performance to this team. And so I'm not gonna waste a minute, I'm not gonna waste a day, I'm not gonna waste a training session where I'm not trying to be the best coach that I can be and make every single player that's playing with me the best player that they can be," said Ponting.
