Seventh seed Musetti tumbles out of Wimbledon
Musetti, playing his first match since retiring in the French Open semi-final against Carlos Alcaraz with a leg injury, went down 6-2 4-6 7-5 6-1 on a muggy Court Two.
The 23-year-old recovered from a slow start to level the match but 126th-ranked Basilashvili raised his game at the end of the third set, breaking serve at 5-6 by winning a stunning rally with a volley into the open court.
Musetti's resistance withered in a 23-minute fourth set as Basilashvili earned his first win in a Grand Slam since reaching the third round at Wimbledon in 2022.
It was the 33-year-old Basilashvili's first victory over a top-10 player at a Grand Slam.

Hewett heads into Wimbledon as both the defending singles and doubles champion after memorably grabbing a pair of triumphs on home soil last year. Earlier in the day in Roehampton, the 27-year-old had rousingly rallied from behind to beat experienced Argentine Gustavo Fernandez and also clinch singles glory to prepare for his SW19 title defence. And he reckons that 2-6 6-4 6-4 triumph can set the perfect blueprint for more hometown success. 'I have to try and perform at the same level and intensity I did in the second and third sets today,' he said. 'There are a lot of strong players and this week was the perfect opportunity to test myself. 'I take a lot of confidence from it but next week is an even bigger one to try and manage. 'I'm delighted - playing on home turf is a really special feeling and you want to do as well as you can, especially in the lead up to an event like Wimbledon. Marcus Rashford among five players to tell Manchester United they want to leave
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is one of five players who have told the club they want to leave Old Trafford this summer, the PA news agency understands. It is understood Rashford, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia have all informed United they see their futures lying elsewhere. United have responded by delaying their scheduled return for pre-season training until the end of July to allow them time to find new clubs. Should none of the players secure a new deal elsewhere before the end of the month, they will be welcomed back to Carrington, where they will continue to have full access to medical and training support. PA also understands summer signing Matheus Cunha will be given the number 10 shirt, which had been worn by Rashford, for next season and United have informed the England international's representatives of the decision. Rashford scored four goals in 17 appearances during his time at Villa Park, but the Midlands club decided not to activate the £40million option to buy him. The 27-year-old, who fell out of favour at United under head coach Ruben Amorim, is reportedly keen on a move to Barcelona and does not want a move to London, ruling out the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham. There is also reported interest from Germany, Italy and Saudi Arabia for the player, who has scored 17 goals in 62 appearances for England. Garnacho, who made his first-team debut for United as a 17-year-old in 2022 after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2020, has scored 16 goals in 93 Premier League appearances. But his relationship with Amorim has also deteriorated after he vented his frustration on social media following his omission from United's starting line-up in their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham. The Argentinian has been linked with both Chelsea and Italian champions Napoli. Antony failed to justify his huge price tag at Old Trafford after arriving from Ajax in an £82million deal in 2022, but he rediscovered top form after joining Real Betis on loan in January. Sancho has also endured a difficult spell at United following his arrival from Borussia Dortmund for £73m in 2021. Jordan Thompson storms into fourth round of Wimbledon for first time
Jordan Thompson's adventures in Wimbledon wonderland have continued with the wounded warrior storming into the fourth round of his favourite event for the first time in his career. Still troubled by a debilitating back injury that had him protesting after his two previous courageous five-set wins that even 'snails move faster', Thompson looked in much sharper nick as he had too much grass-court nous for Italian Luciano Darderi in their third-round clash on Friday, prevailing 6-4 6-4 3-6 6-3. It booked the battling Thompson his first last-16 appearance at Wimbledon at the ninth attempt and only the second fourth-round date of his grand slam career, matching his US Open performance of last year and 2020. He is the first Australian to reach the fourth round at the grass-court slam this year, with both Alex de Minaur and Daria Kasatkina having the chance to join him when they play on Saturday. In the amphitheatre of Court 18, the 31-year-old also managed to bypass the sort of nerve-shredding drama of his previous two matches, which he had won in five-set slogs, this time nipping Darderi's attempted comeback in the bud after the Italian had taken the third set. That raised the prospect that marathon man Thompson might be dragged into a seventh career five-setter at Wimbledon – he's won five and lost just one – only for him to reassert his quality against the 23-year-old Darderi whose two wins at Wimbledon this year doubled his career tally of grass-court victories. Sydneysider Hijikata, who had been unable to dent the two-time grand semi-finalist's delivery all match, grinned ruefully as any chance of him becoming the fourth Australian to qualify for the third round alongside Alex de Minaur, Jordan Thompson and Daria Kasatkina was blasted away. Hijikata, who had in the last game on Thursday saved three match points to extend the match, paid tribute to Shelton. 'Last night's experience was bizarre ... but that was probably an absolute clinic on how to serve out a match if you've got one game to go,' said Hijikata. 'Yeah, credit to him. It's not easy to come out and serve out a match when you have a bit of pressure and you've had the night off. I thought it was bloody good effort by him.'
