Vivian Spohr, wife of Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr, involved in fatal car accident in Italy
Local media reports said Vivian Spohr was at the wheel of an SUV that was in collision with a pedestrian at a crosswalk on Tuesday in the seaside resort of Porto Cervo. Gaia Costa, 24, from Tempio Pausania, in the Gallura region of northern Sardinia, died of serious head injuries at the scene, according to reports.
Italien News, citing investigators, reported that Spohr initially drove away because she said she had not realized what happened, but passers-by got her attention and she stopped. Authorities are investigating whether Spohr may have been distracted by her cell phone while driving, Italien News reported.
In a statement issued by her Italian lawyer on Friday, the 51-year-old German businesswoman expressed "dismay and deep sorrow for this grave accident, which has devastated a family, the town of Tempio, and the entire community of Gallura."

The statement added that Spohr places herself "at the complete disposal of the Italian judicial authorities for the necessary investigations and, while aware that such a great personal loss cannot be repaired, will take steps to mitigate its consequences."
Costa's family has not yet commented publicly, but their lawyer, Antonello Desini, told La Repubblica: "At this time, we must respect the grief of a broken family."
Spohr had been staying at her family's vacation home when the accident occurred, local media reported. She returned to Germany shortly after the accident.
According to Forbes, Deutsche Lufthansa has more than 100,000 employees and last year made $1.5 billion in profits.

'He just saw her with the other dog playing with a skull,' she told the outlet. 'My husband was like, 'This does not look right.'' 'He called the police,' she added. 'They didn't believe it was human remains until detectives came out here.' An autopsy revealed the skull had a gunshot wound, per the outlets. A DNA profile was created but did not match anyone in national databases. Then, in December 2024, Chicarin returned with a human tibia — which forensic testing confirmed belonged to the same person as the skull, the outlets reported. On April 10, Chicarin was found with a femur in the yard, and a search of the property also turned up a human mandible — or jawbone — that also belonged to the same victim, according to Authorities are now testing the Aug. 9 remains to determine whether they also belong to that same victim, the outlets reported. Investigators have placed a tracking device on Chicarin to try to pinpoint where she's finding the bones, according to WVTM-13 and WBRC. 'I am actually very surprised and proud of them because they have helped for over a year to help discover this body,' Mejía told WBRC. Mejía described the ordeal to as 'upsetting.' 'You don't know who the person is, or how long he has been missing for my pup to be bringing this stuff home all the time,' she also told WBRC and WKRC that she and her husband, Orlin, had been cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation — but then, a little over a week ago, she said, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents detained him and took him to a facility in Louisiana. 'Now it's my time to experience it [finding the remains],' Mejía, who was born in Texas, told 'It's been very hard.' 6 people dead after a truck crashed into a van carrying members of an Amish group in Michigan
CARO, Mich. (AP) — A pickup truck went through a stop sign and crashed into a van, killing at least six people in a rural area of Michigan, authorities said. The crash occurred Tuesday afternoon in Tuscola County's Gilford Township, 100 miles (161 kilometers) north of Detroit. Thirteen people were in the two vehicles, including 10 in the van, the sheriff's office said. 'Multiple passengers were ejected from the van and the pickup,' the sheriff's office said on Facebook. 'At this time there are 6 confirmed fatalities and the condition of the additional patients is unknown.'
