Moroccan man sentenced to life in France for double femicide amid tense separation
The double femicide took place in Salles-du-Gardon, in southern France. Mohamed O. went to the home of his wife Halima, 26, who had been staying with her sister after leaving the marital home. An argument reportedly erupted when Fatima, 39, asked him to return the house keys. He then stabbed her fourteen times, including once near the heart, before turning on Halima and slashing her throat.
During the trial, the defendant admitted to killing Fatima «in a fit of anger» but claimed his wife's death was «an accident», alleging that she fell onto the blade of his knife. This version was firmly rejected by the forensic expert, who explained: «The throat wound is nine centimeters long. There's a lateral motion across the neck—you have to apply pressure to do that».
«He came in with the knife covered in blood, with a dark look on his face», recalled a beautician who witnessed the scene.
The jury found evidence of premeditation and sentenced him to life imprisonment, with a mandatory minimum term of 18 years, and revoked his parental rights. The defendant has filed an appeal.

Moroccan man sentenced to life in France for double femicide amid tense separation
Mohamed O., a 41-year-old Moroccan national and father, was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday, July 1, by the Gard Assize Court in France. Subject to an order to leave French territory (OQTF), he was found guilty of murdering his wife and sister-in-law in May 2023 amid a tense separation, AFP reported. Granada Police Arrest 2 Moroccan Men for Allegedly Abandoning Minor
Rabat – Spanish police in Granada have arrested two Moroccan nationals for allegedly abandoning a 17-year-old minor and facilitating irregular migration. One of the alleged suspects is the minor's uncle, Viva Sevilla reported on Tuesday, noting that he brought the minor from Morocco by sea. 'The two individuals, the uncle and a family friend, are believed to have faked the child's abandonment by pretending to have found him on a street in Granada and attempting to hand him over at a police station,' the source said, quoting a statement from the national police. The news report said the boy stayed briefly with his uncle, but he was later handed over to a family friend, who is also of Moroccan origin. He allegedly brought him to Granada under instructions to pretend he had found the boy strolling the streets. Authorities said his uncle planned to present the boy as an unaccompanied minor who needed protection, which would help him receive a residence permit. An investigation is ongoing to shed further on the case, with police confirming that the boy's parents live in Morocco and 'had consented to the plan.' His uncle also admitted that he brought the boy to help him be admitted to a welfare system for shelter. The two men were released and are awaiting trial. Morocco has been serving both as a key transit and a destination county for migrants from sub-Saharan Africa. Growing numbers of Moroccans also seek to emigrate in search of better opportunities. In January this year, Morocco's Ministry of Interior said that the country's security services prevented 78,685 irregular migration attempts in 2024. Most of the intercepted migrants came from West Africa, accounting up 58% of the total figures. Migrants from the Maghreb represented 12%, while 9% came from East and Central African countries. Moroccan security services also dismantled 332 human trafficking networks over the past year, the ministry said, noting that these groups adapt their methods and strengthen their criminal operations through collaboration to serve their irregular migration agenda. Five Moroccan Youth Handball Players Disappear During Tournament in Poland
Rabat — Five Moroccan handball players disappeared from their team headquarters during a youth tournament in Poland last month. This incident marks the second involving Moroccan athletes in the country within ten days. Players left their delegation during the Under-19 tournament in late June, embarrassing Moroccan officials and prompting a formal investigation. Morocco's National Authority for Fighting Corruption in Sports contacted the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports about what they called a 'sporting and diplomatic scandal.' Investigators suspect 'internal collusion' may have helped the players escape, with officials having identified a man over 30 years old who traveled with the delegation and allegedly has connections to illegal migration networks. As it happens, the Moroccan Handball Federation faces criticism for failing to send responsible officials to accompany the young players and staff during the tournament. This incident follows another disappearance involving Moroccan handball players in Poland. Two members of Morocco's Under-21 national team vanished during the World Championship held from June 18-29. Oussama Hakaoui and Moubarak Messaoudi, both players from Ittihad Nouacer, left their hotel during a stopover in Bologna, Italy, before the team traveled to Poland. Neither player has made contact since their disappearance. The back-to-back incidents signal growing concerns about Moroccan athletes using sporting events as opportunities to illegally immigrate. Anti-corruption officials have called for an urgent investigation into both cases. In 2022, a similar case took place when three players from Morocco's national amputee football team fled the Amp Futbol Cup 2022 in Poland. Meanwhile, eight Moroccan minors fled the World School Championship in Slovakia in May of the same year. Tags: Handball playersHandball tournamentMoroccoPoland
